Top Tips
- Book 6 to 12 weeks in advance for peak summer dates or signature events like the Manhattan Beach Open. Local rooms fill quickly and rates often rise by 25-40% for high-demand dates. Compare rates across Manhattan, Redondo, and Hermosa Beach for savings.
- Hotels in Hermosa Beach (2 mi south) or Redondo Beach (3.5 mi south) frequently offer 10-20% lower rates than comparable Manhattan Beach options due to greater inventory. Compare locations and amenities using verified traveler reviews.
- Expect onsite parking fees ranging from $15-45 per night at most hotels. For cost savings, confirm shuttle or street parking options before booking, as prices and availability vary widely by property.
- Select a hotel within a 5 to 10 minute walk (0.3-0.5 mi) of Manhattan Beach Pier and The Strand for direct beach access and to avoid parking congestion, especially in summer or during large events.
- Request detailed Wi-Fi speed and test results before booking if conducting video calls, as boutique properties may have variable network quality. Ask for a quiet room on upper floors to minimize street noise.
- Secure flexible cancellation; many properties allow free changes until 24 to 48 hours before check-in. Contact the hotel to confirm upgrade or late checkout options for direct bookings.
- Bring a current government-issued ID and the credit card used for booking to check in. Confirm smoke-free and pet policy details; some properties charge deposits or $15-150 cleaning fees for pets.
- Standard U.S. tipping practices apply: tip 15-20% at restaurants, $1-5 per bag for bell staff, and $2-5 per night for housekeeping. Verify if gratuity is automatically added at hotel restaurants.
- Plan for local transient occupancy taxes (about 12%) and mandatory service or resort fees, which may add $15-40 per night to your final bill. Confirm exact fees in advance to avoid surprises.
- Manhattan Beach is 5-7 mi (15-25 min drive) from LAX. Rideshare and taxis are the most reliable transport, as metro service is limited. Factor $25-50 each way for rideshare transfers.
- The area is safe, but always secure valuables, as petty thefts occur on crowded beaches. Swim near lifeguard stations and use SPF 30+ sunscreen all year due to strong California sun.
- Manhattan Beach enforces a strict no-smoking policy on beaches, in public areas, and in most hotel rooms or balconies. Violations can incur $250-500 fines and cleaning fees.
- Ask concierge staff for recommendations on local restaurants, public parking options, and quieter beach areas. Staff can also share details on farmers markets and tide schedules; timing may affect beach access.
- Families can request adjoining rooms or those with kitchenettes. Confirm in advance if you need pool access, lifeguard hours, cribs, or rollaway beds, as availability varies by hotel.
- Solo travelers benefit from staying within 0.3 mi of the Pier or downtown for walkable nightlife. Store valuables in your room safe and use licensed rideshare apps for return trips after 22:00.
- Several hotels offer package deals with surf lessons, beach bike rentals, or day spa credits, which may reduce total trip costs by 10-15%. Inquire at booking or check the hotel's website for current offers.
- Enjoy rates 15-25% lower during shoulder seasons (late spring, early fall) with mild temperatures. Midweek stays frequently cost less than weekends. Ask about discounts for four-night and longer stays.
- Call ahead to confirm current COVID-19 policies (masking, housekeeping frequency) and accessible room features, such as step-free access or visual alarms. Health regulations and accommodations may change seasonally.
