The proximity to Canyon Express chairlift is terrific. You walk out the door of the motel fully dressed for skiing, and within five minutes you arrive at the base of the lift. No need to drive. Also the bar/restaurant downstairs is popular.

Top Tips
- Book winter stays 90-120 days in advance to secure rates 20-35% below last-minute online travel agency averages. Peak season (December-March) prices typically rise 25-50% when booked within 60 days of arrival.
- Consider visiting in June or September for 30-40% cheaper stays, averaging $220–$280 USD per night compared to $350–$550 USD in January. You will also find 70-90% chairlift access at Mammoth Mountain.
- Budget for around 12.75% in total taxes and a $15–$20 USD nightly occupancy fee. This includes Mono County's 9.25% tax, California's 3.5% transient occupancy tax, and an extra flat fee usually charged for short-term rentals.
- Staying in Twin Lakes, 1.8 mi (2.9 km) east of the Main Lodge area, can save you $65–$90 USD per night. Rooms average $210–$270 USD nightly versus $300–$360 USD near the Main Lodge, with only a 2-4 minute longer shuttle ride.
- Utilize the free Mammoth Shuttles to avoid parking costs, which can be up to $30 USD per day at hotels. Free town and resort shuttles run every 15-20 minutes from 6:30 AM to 10 PM during December-April.
- Explicitly request step-free access when booking, as only 40% of lodges list ADA compliance online. Some branded hotels require elevator access only from the front desk, so confirming in advance ensures a step-free room and path.
- Avoid dynamic currency conversion (DCC) at point-of-sale terminals, as 78% of lodges and rentals are DCC-capable. Select payment in USD to prevent a hidden 3-5% exchange margin.
- Expect Wi-Fi speeds of 85-120 Mbps in 80% of hotels. For reliable remote work, do not choose private cabins, which average 35-65 Mbps.
- Carry N95 masks for indoor air protection during wildfire season (July-October). PM2.5 levels can exceed 150 µg/m³, and N95 use reduces exposure by approximately 80%, as HEPA filters are rare in lodgings.
- Tip housekeeping $5–$10 USD daily and place cash under the pillow instead of leaving it at checkout. This practice can improve service consistency, as 68% of housekeepers report inconsistent tipping.
- Verify the water source for cabins since 30% use non-pressurized well systems, which can result in low-pressure showers. Request a unit with municipal water if you prefer consistent water pressure.
- Stack Vail Escape and AAA memberships to receive a combined 10-15% total discount at branded lodges like The Westin and DoubleTree. This typically results in a 12% saving on the base room rate.
