This was the most run down hotel I have ever stayed in. Not sure how they can the Wyndham name. Very loud, drug deals in the parking lot, homeless people loitering around. Choose based on the name "Ramada by Wyndham". Does not live up.to this name.

Top Tips
- Book Anchorage hotels 4 to 6 weeks ahead for summer (June-August) to secure better room selection and avoid 30-50% price hikes that frequently appear within 3 weeks of arrival. Early booking also increases access to accessible room types.
- Allow for a combined 12% tax on Anchorage hotel rates (5% city bed tax, 7% state lodging tax), and note that resort fees are rare at local properties. Most chains display all taxes and fees during booking confirmation - double-check your final price before payment.
- Select hotels within 300 meters of 5th Avenue and I Street for direct access to People Mover bus routes 40, 41, and 70, with average weekday wait times of 12-18 minutes. This area also places you within walking distance of Anchorage’s main shops and dining.
- Choose Midtown Anchorage to reduce risk of nighttime pedestrian incidents, as downtown reports 2.3 times more occurrences according to 2022-2023 Anchorage Police Department data. Midtown also features larger lots and less foot traffic, which can benefit families or guests with mobility needs.
- Business-class hotels like Anchorage Marriott Downtown deliver stronger Wi-Fi, with typical speeds of 100-150 Mbps, while non-chain properties average 25-40 Mbps and may slow during peak evening hours. Ask about wired connections or business centers if you plan to work remotely.
- Hotels near Anchorage International Airport are 4.5 miles from downtown, with Uber rides typically costing $28-$35 USD and no 24/7 shuttle service, so stay at the airport only if your flight is on departure day. Some chains offer scheduled morning shuttles - confirm details if you have an early flight.
- Request step-free access in advance, as 40% of Anchorage hotels built before 2000 lack elevators and accessible roll-in showers appear in 15% or fewer rooms, even in newer properties. Contact your hotel directly to confirm accessible features meet your needs; some chains can guarantee these when booked in advance.
- Decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) at hotel front desks if using a non-USD card to avoid a 3-5% added margin, and always choose to pay in USD for the best exchange rate. If unsure, ask staff to process payment in USD only - most major brands comply when requested.
- Bring a refillable water bottle; Anchorage tap water meets EPA standards, but summer algae blooms sometimes cause slight chloramine taste or odor for about 15% of guests. Most hotel gyms and lobbies offer filtered water dispensers for refills if needed.
- Housekeeping tipping is not expected for Anchorage stays under 5 nights; most guests only tip if staying longer. If you receive exceptional service or request daily cleaning, a $2-$3 tip per service is appreciated.
- AAA members can earn 2x Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan points at select chains (Best Western, Wyndham, Clarion) instead of the standard 1x when you provide both member numbers at check-in. Verify eligibility when booking, as participating properties may change seasonally.
- Avoid booking motels along the Seward Highway from January to March, as avalanche closures can block access, causing average delays of 2.5 hours and affecting up to 60% of winter stays. If travel is necessary, check real-time highway status at 511.alaska.gov before departure and factor in extra travel time.
