The location is unique within this rain forest. There are flowers all over. The hostess and her neighbor were very friendly and when we left after one week we had the impression that we were leaving friends.

Make sure you have a good light, phones work when you come back at night because the gate is locked with a padlelock with a combination in the bottom. The numbers are the same color as the lock and not easily read.
The B&B is very well maintained and the owner is very willing to provide information and suggestions of where to visit. The resturant she recommended in town for dinner was very good.
We enjoyed the variety of people at breakfast and hearing their views on Hawaii and their country. Met many people from Europe and enjoyed visiting with them all.
A little bit off the beaton path but a great place to stay. ...

The Lava Tree in was comfortable and intimate. Irene, the inn keeper, was sweet and considerate, offering insight and extending invitations to local on goings. The early breakfasts were delicious and dining on Irene's back patio surrounded by lush green jungle with the occasional cat purring at your feet or flock of chickens strutting by held exceptional ambiance. The location was about a 15 minute drive from downtown Hilo but felt completely remote. The decor was charming and extremely clean, especially the shared bathroom. The bed and breakfast experience was enhanced by interaction with other guests, but when we were the only guests there, it truly felt like we were at home. ...
