Hotel Guest Reviews of the Shangri-La Hotel Sydney

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Exceptionally polite and attentive staff, Eshur to start with; room was very spacious and the expanse views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House were unbeatable. Food was delicious (room service as well as restaurant) -
Dirty windows affected the quality of our otherwise picture perfect views and photos, overcrowding of the spa

The hotel was stunning! And the room we booked was exactly as it was portrayed online. We were extremely pleased that the room we booked was the room we got.
No, everything about the Hotel was top notch.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful as this was our first trip to Australia and Sydney. They checked us in, gave us a map of the city and gave us a few pointers. Also, we arrived off of a cruise ship and our room was not yet ready as it was like 9:30 AM. The woman who checked us in took our cell phone number and texted us when our room was ready which was before the 3:00 PM check in time. Very accommodating staff! ...read more

Would have preferred to have a coffee maker within the room

Excellent cleaning staff...rooms are made to look like no one ever used them...spotless.
Breakfast is excellent but a bit too expensive

Make sure you specify the Circular Quaey view...that gets you the Opera House and Bridge view...Darling Harbour view is next to a highway and too noisy.

Poor service and misrepresenting of the quality of room I booked

We splurged a bit for a Harbor and Opera House view room and the Horizon Club access at Sydney. Quite a disappointment all around. Our "opera house and harbor" view room turned out to be on a corner of the building such that the only view you got was by sitting in the window and craning your neck to the edge to see the opera house. Not very impressive. I find the half truth worse than the lie and it really irks me to have paid the up charge and not get what I thought I paid for. So if you want a harbor and opera house view do not take room 3419. It disappoints. I guess the first clue for us was that not one of the door staff came to help us with getting our bags out of the taxi or helping us with them to elevator and the room. Not 5 star service. However we did get a split of champagne and some chocolate gratis from the management for our occasion so were things looking up? No. Another thing that at a 3 star hotel you would not expect but at 5 star prices you do are small things like fresh flowers or a bowl of fruit, a welcome card or something upon check in. Here you get nothing. The room had no special touches what so ever...no turn down service, mint on the pillow. We apparently got to the hotel too late for any breakfast and too early for any lunch. The Horizon Club had an impressive spread of nothing. We tried again around cocktail time and found little left to eat. Another disappointment. Over the course of our three nights at the hotel we had malfunctioning room keys four times, they lost my shoes I sent to be shined in spite of three calls to them about it. Not a good experience ...read more

The view was spectacular and the location was very convenient.
Although staff was mostly friendly, the service was not quite up to expectations for this caliber of hotel.

We stayed in the suite, which was the only room that could accommodate my husband and I with our two kids. The view was truly stunning! The room was beautiful, and the amenities were excellent. Guests in the suite rooms are checked in at the 30th floor Horizon Lounge, also with beautiful views. The lounge offers breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening drinks and canapes. However, service was a little off. Our room was not ready at check-in time, and although they estimated it would be ready "shortly," it was over an hour. Afternoon tea was being served in the lounge, but there were no clean teapots, the water pitcher was empty and not refilled, and no utensils or plates for the snacks. We requested sheets for the sofa bed when we found none in the room, and were promised some at turn-down service. Our bed was turned down, but only one sheet was left for the sofa bed, and wasn't put on. We were charged for a breakfast buffet that we were told was included in our room fee for the suite. Little misses that continued to add up. But staff were friendly, and helpful when they were available. I would highly recommend this hotel if you only have a short time in Sydney and want to be right at the harbor. The hotel is very convenient to the ferries, the Royal Botanical Garden, the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, and the Rocks area of Sydney. The suite was judged to be the best room our family has ever had. ...read more

Location, plus the hotel is quite luxurious.
A bit expensive.

Excellent hotel, very professional and courteous staff. Location is fantastic, very close to the Rocks & Circular Quay. Beautiful rooms, great fitness facilities, great view from the 36th floor lounge!
