Location wasn't too bad
Roaches & management

The hotel is basically a brownstone turned into apartment style suites. I stayed in the Captain Molly suite. The decor is outdated and the place was INFESTED with ROACHES!!! The front desk is run by a dental office down the street and after 5pm the desk is closed. Their answering service was not set up to leave messages and I was forced to leave my complaints via e-mail. Instead of calling me back, they posted a sign on my door when i came back to my room the next day letting me know they sprayed in the room. Now not only was inhaling the fumes, there were MORE roaches coming out! I wanted to check out the same night that I arrived but the office was closed & was also closed all day on Sunday. The manager REFUSED to see me on Monday so to make an already long story short, I am now in the process of disputing the room charges with my bank since I didn't have the option to check out. DON'T STAY HERE!!! ...read more

The atmosphere of the rooms
Organization of staff / booking

The suites at Missing Lantern are an NY experience you probably won't forget, as long as you are staying for charm and not luxury. The room was charming, perfectly suited for one or two persons, and in-room amenities were on par with any decent hotel. The reception area was confusing, as it doubles as a dentist office, and under construction at the time. There were apparently other facilities like a massage machine, but I didn't spend enough time to experience those. Very similar to the Madonna Inn, you get a charming, almost silly themed room that maintains the appeal of a small NY hotel. ...read more

Close to the subway.
The neighborhood was a little scary.

This inn was a decent place for the price paid. There were 2 places to sleep, which was nice, as I was traveling with my brother. The building was kept up, but all the neighboring buildings could have used some help. Towel service seemed to be only every 3 days; it would have been nice for them to check on us maybe the second day instead of the last day. Overall OK for 2 people that were looking for a budget place to stay close to a subway stop. ...read more

Funky clean.
AC
unit.

When we arrived it was hot in New York, and the A/C unit was old and inadequate. However, when I complained they came in the room within an hour and replaced it with a brand new one! Love it.

Near the subway, and cheap.
Dirty, and unsafe!

It was really dirty, there were bottles of Soda left on the floor, the carpets haven't been vacuumed for at least 6 months or more and the atmosphere was creepy. I would not go back to this place.
