Hotel Triton San Francisco
There aren't too many hotels like this one. Created by a group of nine artists in 1991, the seven-floor Triton is a veritable explosion of color and creativity. It has a 360-degree psychedelic lobby mural evoking San Francisco's Summer of Love past and a living room with gold-green metallic sofas and striped carpeting. The 140 zippy rooms — some designed by celebs like Jerry Garcia and Kathy Griffin — have super-cool touches like walls the color of tomato soup, floors made from bamboo, signature Triton rubber duckies for bath time and zebra-print bathrobes. Amenities include Wi-Fi (available for a fee), iPod docks and flat-panel TVs with premium cable. Rooms are pet- and eco-friendly. The hotel also has a 24-hour fitness center. A French cafe is next door, and parking is available for an extra charge.
