Hôtel Restaurant l'Aubergade

Pros +

• Location, it was cozy, it was clean. Its nothing fancy but its honest
• Situated in the middle of Grardmer, you are quickly at the lake, the shopping street and restaurants. For cyclists a good start to explore the Vosges region. The restaurant still breads the efforts of the first owners.
• The style of our room was adorable and well designed. Additionally our room had a balcony. The location of the hotel was very close to the lake. The restaurant and the lobby downstairs looked amazing and newly designed. We didnt eat there so I dont know about the quality of the food.

Cons -

• Nothing bothered
• I asked for a family type of room and the confirmation took weeks. Up on arrival, there were festivities on the parking square in front of the hotel and some roads were blocked. Hotel management did not inform anybody about this. Due to the warm days, we had to sleep with our windows open (no airconditioning) but due to the noise outside, it was hard to fall asleep. At about 2 oclock, al went mostly silent apart for some drunk people passing by. If I knew before, I would have booked elsewhere. The front desk officer was not of the social type where we did not receive a firm greeting at arrival. Also at departure, it is common to ask the guest if he/she had a pleasant stay. We werent asked. Pay the bill and leave. Staff is wearing free time clothing, no formal dress code. Never have I seen that before. We were (wrongfully) under the impression that breakfast was included in the price. Front desk officer did not discuss our reservation upon arrival to inform us about the extra costs. I would have payed them anyway, but I like to be informed about the price first. There is no price difference for children. The bar closes very early in the evening. At 21h30 we were told no drinks were possible. They tried to renovate the rooms, but it is porely done. Wall paper is coming loose, moist and fungus on the wall and ceiling, tiles are placed by an amateur and edges are not finished with caulking. Bathroom is very very small!
• There was an unpleasant smell in the hotel, especially in the hallway and in our room as well. I guess it comes from the old carpet. My parents had a room upstairs , they had no carpet in their room and the smell was better. we all couldnt sleep in that beds, the mattresses were horrible.
