Very disappointed with our stay.
We were looking forward to staying here as the hotel advertises itself as having a gourmet restaurant. Be aware that there are several cats in the hotel asleep or sitting on various pieces of furniture and one even walked across our table whilst we were eating! On booking in it was suggested to us that we had our evening meal in the restaurant, to which we agreed. After cycling 80 km we were looking forward to a nice meal. However on presenting the menu to us we were told the kitchen was very busy that evening and only ‘small plates’ were on offer. We and another couple were the only ones in the dining room. The ‘small plates’ selection was either soup, herring or beef tarter. We do not eat meat, and after a long discussion when we were told there was nothing else, we were offered a salad, which we accepted. At 7.40 pm we asked about dessert but was told there was none as the kitchen had closed at 7 pm.

The dog in the room opposite which barked loudly all evening until I went to reception about it and then started barking at 7.30 am until we checked out at 10 am

All that glitters is not gold
This is really a magical place. Someone really put a lot of thought into the details, the look, feel and the overall impression of this place. However, problems arise in implementation.
I purposely booked a standard room, as I did not want the one that was presented as economy on Booking. You can imagine the disappointment when I found myself in the exact room I didn't want. When I complained, I received an answer that there are no rooms and that maybe I would get my reserved room next time I come. Although the hotel is nice and specially decorated, I doubt I will drive more than 1300 km again, where I may or may not be getting the room I reserved. It's a good thing that the reservation was only for two nights, because we wouldn't have lasted more than that in this room. I hope they change the mattress on the bed that you have to crawl over to get to the other bed.
It would also be good to take care of mold in the bathroom (on the ceiling, above the shower).

A very special place to stay
Palac Poraj is a very special place. The decoration and the garden are beautiful. The restaurant is extraordinary, and the people is extremely kind. And the cats are lovely. A place to visit!
Everything was ok, and the relation price-quality is excellent. It would need some restoration to mantain this very special place.
