About

Hotel Grotto Bagat is located on the shores of Lake Lugano, on the road to Brusimpiano. All rooms are spacious and some offer lake views. The restaurant serves local cuisine. The rooms come with cool tiled floors, an LCD TV with satellite channels, and a private bathroom with shower and hairdryer. The lake-view rooms also have a private balcony. When the weather's nice, meals are served outdoors. Breakfast is a varied buffet, and lake-fish and meat specialties are available for lunch and dinner. The Grotto Bagat offers free parking, and is half a mile from the popular beach of Lido Lavena. Ponte Tresa in Switzerland's Canton Ticino is a 5-minute drive away.

    Pros +

    • Nice room with a view on the lake
    • Accommodated our late night arrival. The pictures should not do it justice, the lake is huge and gorgeous from the hotel. I wish we had more time here.
    • The staff is extremely kind, the view is gorgeous and the location (although right by the main street) excellent. Within 10 minutes of walking distance one can reach the main area which goes along the lake and offers a good choice of wonderful restaurants with amazing food. There is nothing around the hotel otherwise (other than one more restaurant), for shopping one needs to go to Ponte Tresa, which is reachable within 5 minutes by bus or around 30-40 minutes by foot. It might be too isolated for someone who prefers sightseeing activities, but for us it was great because we were thankful for the peaceful atmosphere in which we could work remotely. The food at the Grotto Bagat Restaurant is highly recommendable - especially the pizza menu - and everything is available in your room too.

    Cons -

    • Very noisy neighbours, bad sound insulation.
    • Unfortunately, the walls are very thin and one can hear pretty much everything (especially very active children). This was our second time here and the first time we've had a great experience and did not get disturbed during our stay. This time however there were major repairs going on on the 1st floor of which none of us got informed and which the staff said were on short notice. That might have been the case but it was impossible to concentrate on any work, let alone get any phonecalls or meetings done. The reason we chose this propriety to begin with was the peace we so much needed, going outside or to a café instead was not what we had originally paid for. We were also quite disappointed to see that this time the breakfast options (that we paid for) diminished to less than half of what they were last time we came: instead of 3-4 types of fruits there was only 1, there were NO VEGETABLES, the warm food was limited to only eggs and sausages and the cold section was mostly made out of sweets, compared to the first time round when we had 2 types of cheese, 2 types of ham, eggs cooked in different ways and more than just 1 type of bread.
    • Shared balcony with all the other rooms.Cleaners didn't use warning signs or verbally warn us that they had just mopped the stairs and floors, which was very dangerous and slippery. Breakfast was not good value for money. Very limited choice of what to eat.

The size and the view from the room were spectacular. The food in the restaurant was very good. The proximity to Switzerland and all the main sightseeing around.

The bathroom is very outdated. Same breakfast for the 3 days we've been there and without vegetables...

Proximity to Lake Lugano and Swiss border

The walls of our room were paper thin. The adjoining rooms are family oriented and you hear the other guest going to the bathroom and talking. Our stay was for four nights and unable to sleep on every night due to load guests. The room was never cleaned properly and toiletries were not replenished.Breakfast was very ordinary

It was a lovely, scenic and historic premise, the breakfast was lovely. Staff was polite and helpful, our room was facing the lake so it was very beautiful. Only hoping that it have an iron for me to iron my clothes

The staff were incredibly helpful!!! the restaurant food is absolutely exceptional and the breakfast was everything I could want and more. the lake view from our bed was the most memorable wake up. would recommend this 100x over

    Location

Its smells like cigarete and very noisy, even in the midnight you can hear everyone talking and the sounds of the chairs moving and people walking.

Great value for money! The staff were very helpful and even upgraded for free our room to include a view of the lake. The hotel is in fact a hotel restaurant and you must try it cause it is very good. The breakfast was also good enough for a small extra fee. I totally recommend it for one or more nights stay.

Nice view, nice location, nice staff

Poor interior, reception phone not working 24/7, breakfast basics, no TV in bedroom suits

    8RicardoPosted on: 12-27-2024

Very nice hotel located in front of the lake in a very calm area. They also have a nice restaurant inside.

Too far from Lugano so It's mainly to be used for overnight before continuing the trip.

Lovely location down by the lake, attractive old building, plenty of parking on site. The restaurant was festive and nicely done inside. The bed was comfy.

The hotel answered my message but didn’t respond to questions I asked about the restaurant and breakfast. Turns out there didn’t look to be any chance of breakfast, not even a coffee! The bedroom was quite dated and a bit tatty. We ate in the restaurant but found the food to be of a mixed standard and the meat courses expensive for what they were. The staff were clearing up around us and made it clear they wanted us to leave, even turning the music off!

Position. Spacious bedroom with balcony overlooking lake. Lovely food. Really good selection at breakfast.

Small cramped bathroom. Water in shower took ages to heat up. Gave up in the end and just had a wash.,

There was water leaking out of the ac, this has been happining for a while looking at the stains on the floor. When i said this to the receptionist she told the cleaning staff who replied yes we know. The was also fungun on the froof above the shower

Everything was amazing. The view is unbeatable. The food for dinner was the best food we’ve had in our two week vacation all over Europe. The staff were so friendly and the rooms were comfortable and clean.

Excellent evening meal in the restaurant. Very pleasant staff.

Unfortunately I left my kindle book which when I queried they confirmed. As we could not pick it up I have asked twice if they could send it back to me advising how much it will cost and how I pay for the postage. I have not received a reply. Had they responded I would have given a higher score.

Food choices were a little limited in the restaurant
