    Pros +

    • Location is simply stunning - and beautifully quiet. Nature at its very best. The lodges were very simple and perfect for the location. We were supremely well looked after by Adam and his team. The food was all local, fresh and beautifully cooked. Pemba Lodge really is one of a kind if you are looking for a simple, natural getaway. A truly amazing place!
    • Beautiful and very relaxing. Extremely good value for money and especially in Pemba. Very friendly and service oriented staff. Thanks Omar
    • I have now been to Misali sunset beach hotel and pemba paradise, for me the eco lodge was the best experience. So authentic!!!The location is perfect for a exploring getaway! Friendly staff. Not crowded at all, at one of our nights we were the only guests at the resort. The beaches are so prestine and beautiful!Snorkeling and turtle aquarium I recommend!Food is excellent, super fresh tuna! The best I have ever tasted!!

    Cons -

    • Beds were a little hard.
    • Tours and excursions is probably a little over priced for the region.
    • We reserved by Booking and then we exchanged some messages to access the hotel (by private boat), it was only when we were at the hotel almost with the sun down, that they told us that we had only paid for two people for one night. If we wanted to stay the night, we had to double the price and they kicked us out the next day, even if we had two nights reserved and even if Booking sent un email insisting in our rights. They refused to get in contact with Booking saying it was our obligation to contact them. The managers treated us really badly, we were defenseless. Even for this review, they told us they would delete it.

Beautiful location, stunning. Kayaking was a great experience.

Can’t think of anything I disliked, but people who are not used to eco-toilets may not like that.

Amazing food, friendly and helpful staff, beach in front of the rooms.

    - TOILET: a hole without water with sawdust causing disgusting smell throughout the room. we tried to use the toilet as little as possible to limit the smell. A nightmare!- WATER from the tank, little and brownish- The lodge is completely ISOLATED, on a small island in a lagoon with nothing around. You depend on the lodge services to go anywhere. (ex 250 dollar to go to Misali Island!).- TIDES: until 4 pm is low tide, there is no water, you can't swim and if you have to reach the hotel from Pemba or viceversa, you have to walk 20 minutes in the mud and then 20 minutes under the sun.- Absolutely unfair PRICE for the quality of services

Staff friendliness and location were both incredible. The experience was overall an unforgettable one, being at a completely secluded paradise island. The staff would always try to accommodate any requests. Room has impeccable views.

Everything was overall good for us. However, if one expects luxury, then this is not the right hotel, given its rusty vibe. Also, there is no menu for dinner and it depends on the catch of the day. However, we personally loved this eco-side of the hotel.

The food was excellent, even for us vegans! The location was very out of the way and tranquil; there was a couple of trails to walk but, for the most part, there was little else to do as the water out to the reef, which was very far, was too shallow for swimming or snorkeling. Also, the scuba diving was very far, so this is the perfect place to just veg and relax!

The bed was very hard and uncomfortable.

    nature was great

There was no water, the toilet and bathroom were very bad. I stayed for 2 days and I couldn't take a shower

    8MelaniePosted on: 3-25-2023

really private with beautiful hidden beaches

Not so much light in the lodge (the bedroom and bathroom)

    9ReingardPosted on: 10-12-2022

Great Lodge, they really live the eco-aspect and service and food are marvellous.

Just a tiny aspect: it is only possible to swim when there's the flood.

seafood with the catch of the day and only fresh foodmassoud and the whole teamthe place very quite and peaceful

maybe add more sunbeds and fix broken ones

Absolutely stunning little place, incredible setting, staff go above and beyond to please you. Food absolutely incredible. The staff and local people are so humble, attentive and genuine. The setting is amazing and is a complete retreat. Local people and very friendly too. I’d definitely return for sure.

The hot water pressure in the shower is a little low but it’s not really a big deal considering when you look at how some people live on the island, you are extremely lucky to have a shower at least.

unique place where you can really relax

poor information about how to get to the place. no food menu

    10MaryPosted on: 2-27-2022

Excellent meals, fresh every day, prepared promptly, delicious, all from the island especially the daily fish brought in by the local fishermen. The staff are plain lovely to be with - gentle, very efficient, thoughtful and see to your every need. This place is heaven on earth. While it is complicated to get there because of the tides, this is what keeps this place SUPERB in every respect. It is quiet, BEAUTIFUL, pristine, outstandingly run, gentle and unpretentious. If you want moden glitz and luxury, this is NOT for you. Thank heaven places like this still exist for those of us who appreciate simplicity yet high standards.

The untouched beauty of Pemba Eco Lodge provides the perfect escape from everything. It really is the ideal place to relax and restore while enjoying a remote beach, clear warm waters, delicious food and oodles of places to sit and watch the world go by. The staff are lovely and always accommodating. Everything was just so easy there and booking any tours were seamless with assistance from Masoud, the manager. The bungalows are spacious light and airy with a balcony with a sea view. The hot spicy tea delivered every morning was a lovely touch. I’ll definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely stay

Location, beautiful beach, peace, very good food, kind and attentive stuff. We would love to come back…

The Messages from Margaret addressing my concerns re travel as i had been involved in an accident prior to arrival. The special meals taking into account dietary restrictions. The tasty foods prepared fro super fresh garden picked produce. Ali’s smile and knack with spices. The constant supply of sweet water from wells and spiced tea available all hours of the day. Masoud, the manager, greeting us as the port with beautiful free coconut juice. The refreshing boat trip to the lodge with Hamweje as captain and Kombo or Jomo stopping fishermen on dhows checking to see what fresh fish they have for dinner. And then the outstanding service all round from Omar, whose attention to detail in housekeeping, service, all round care. The list goes on. The teamwork and camaraderie amongst them is remarkable to behold. We learnt so much about Pemba and people at the lodge so willing share stories. Thank you all for everything - words do not adequately express just how much we treasured our time there.

Very quiet, private lodge with fabulous white beach with turquoise water. The few individual bungalows all have beach view with porch, excellent natural ventilation, full comfort.

I couldnt find the right words to positively evaluate my stay here. First, my most generous congratulations go to Masoud, the owner, who build a human paradise, in the middle of a natural paradise. Everything is build in masive local wood, creating a sensation of finest luxury. The houses are not conected to a water, or to electric supply. There are very ingenuous instalations build, so that the guest has water, and electricity. Viewing the indian ocean from the terrace, among the cocnut trees is the first pleasure that one has when geting out of the room. After walking for 20 meters under the coconut trees, you find yourself on the white sand beach, which is the cherry on the top of the cake. There couldnt be a better place to feel lost in paradise, on a remote island in the indian ocean. When you wake up in the sound of the tropical birds, you will find a hot local tea waiting for you on the terrace. Food is always a fresh catch, very well cooked, added to the tropical fruits salad. Room is cleaned daily, and the presence of personel is extremely discreet.Once again, congratulation to Masoud for the effort of building this fantastic acomodation, and for helping us with all our problems and requests. If you are looking for paradise, look no more, you have found it!
