    Pros +

    • Location
    • The dinner was horrible; we decided not to eat breakfast. The breakfast room is very dated and dark
    • They made up for the original offered room by giving us part of a villa. I will admit that booking.com through a wrench into the situation by allowing us to book the original room that was not in rentable condition. I beleive the staff recognized this as well because the manager did go out of his way to make up for the original space.

    Cons -

    • Their confirmation email states that alcohol is not allowed on the premises; something that they do not mention on their profile. I find this deceitful.
    • The staff were so friendly. The Magoebaskloof Hotel was a terrible experience. The place is very old, the furniture is broken, the showers were a complete disaster – no hot water and in very bad condition. The mattress was awful and uncomfortable. What they advertise is completely misleading and false. I will never go back there again.
    • The first room that was presented to us should have never been allowed to rent out.

The room which we were allocated was standard/average in furnishings quality. The dining room decor was quite dated ( = tired/colonial), but the view from our table was splendid. The quality of our meals (dinner and breakfast) was good and the service was exemplary.

The overall impression we got from our stay was that the hotel has seen better days - its locality on the Magoebaskloof pass is brilliant and there are abundant activities on offer in the area, but we were overnighting, so these attractions were somewhat irrelevant to us. Due to its superb locality, we may stay there again, but we hope the hotel group considers giving the hotel a much needed facelift.

Their rooms were clean and well organized and the staffs were very kind and understanding.

The waterfall is very far and deep in the forest and they do not send any of their staffs to accompany their guest. So if want to see the waterfall you're going there at your own risk.

Room needs maintenance - shower doors, door handles, toilet paper holder

    1ElvisPosted on: 4-28-2025

    The location is excellent

The place is very dirty from the packing area and driveways, the rooms are not properly cleaned with most rooms having serious maintenance issues. We were moved to a different villa as lights and stoves and microwave and doors not locking. The villa we were moved in was a bit better but the main door and kitchen door wasn't looking. The hotel staff couldn't fix the doors as they said maintenance supervisor is not available.

We did a late check-in with no hassles at all. The staff was very friendly, thee whole experience was amazing. We will definitely come again. More especially for the beautiful nature views.

Place and view and friendly staf

I understand it is 3 star. Need upgrade. Old

    4ChrisPosted on: 4-27-2025

The character of the place. The location. Decent squash court. Breakfast hours.

No shower fitted in Room 19. It appeared to have been removed. No soap in bathroom. Toilet paper was nearly finished. The place was generally looking a bit tired; in need of some TLC. Not a very friendly greeting by the security guard on arrival when he insisted on searching the car for alcohol!

    Spa was perfect ?

We got lost when looking for our apartment Room numbers not visible enough and buffet breakfast is not same as back in the days were it has varieties to choose from, it's boring

    1EsiePosted on: 4-23-2025

    Very traumatic

The place is dirty and smelly, the carpet in the bedroom too bad, leakages in bathrooms and the bath tub was peeling a paint, a lit if things need to be changed, the worst part the water was brown, we checked out 2 days earlier

Magoebaskloof Hotel is set in one of the most breathtaking locations – the views of the valley are absolutely incredible and really make the stay special. The staff were truly exceptional too – warm, helpful, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. That said, the rooms are a bit tired and could be cleaner. The bathrooms are quite dated and would really benefit from a revamp. Small touches – like matching taps, a TV that’s properly aligned, and milk for coffee that isn’t rock solid – would go a long way in improving the overall experience. The restaurant menu is quite limited, especially if you're vegetarian or gluten-free. The breakfast buffet has a good spread, but it’s pricey, and unfortunately, there’s no alternative breakfast option. For someone who is gluten-free, paying full price for just fruit and grated cheese doesn’t feel great value. All in all, the views and the staff make it a memorable stay, but with a few upgrades and more inclusive food options, it could be truly fantastic.

The view was great and the staff were very good at trying to accommodate our needs with what was available.

The hotel is in a serious need of maintenance and repair. The villas have damp problems, hot water was a problem at times and a light brown colour and room main door lock was not working. Bar not stocked with enough variety of drinks.

    Excellent

Better room carpets. Expensive dinner, was so frustrating for a family of 8

    1NtshemboPosted on: 4-3-2025

We didn't like the fact that they took us to the ugly room not being the same as the one we saw on the pictures and they futher said that when we do the bookings it didn't include the breakfast, mean while the price it was saying, including breakfast but when we have to eat breakfast we had to pay more money for breakfast.....so their service it was very bad ?

    6CharmainePosted on: 4-3-2025

It was fair. The room is not attractive. it's not as it looks online. The bed is old and not comfortable. I enjoyed the food only.

    7VioletPosted on: 3-29-2025

    The view and breakfast

The building is old it needs some renovation, they must remove the mat in the rooms and the beds are old please replace your bed and tile the floor. Please also take care of the garden.

The room was stiffy .The entire area needs renovation ,bed and shower not really comfort.
