- The room was clean and cleaned everyday. The staff is very friendly and always eager to help.
- Enjoyed our two-night stay here. It’s definitely more of a resort, with full-board dining at an assigned table, activities scheduled throughout the day, and quite a bit to do on the grounds. We were there during a week of South African school vacation so it was quite busy with families. There are numerous hiking trails that leave from the property, if you don’t want to drive the 20-some minutes into the park. Our room was comfortable - the resort may be 80 years old but the room felt new. Food was good, with ample vegetarian options on the lunch buffet and the dinner menu, and the staff was super helpful throughout.
Cons -
- It rained a bit more than we would have liked but the place have so many indoor activities that you are rarely bored.
- The two hikes we did were fine but fairly short and flat - we would have rather gone into the park for longer hikes.
- i booked for a little time my mistake lol

the breakfast was good, it could do with a variety of sausages

The locations is good, the meals also exceptional delicious . The staff were very friendly and always willing to go an extra mile
It could have been better if there was WiFi in the room
The Cavern remains a great destination for people who enjoy nature and want to relax in a quiet natural environment. We enjoy the many varied walks suitable for persons of all ages and capabilities, both guided and self-guided. The food is excellent.Once you start walking to some of the higher areas like Surprise Ridge or Sugar Loaf, the views are spectacular. That is why we have kept returning here for close on 50 years.
The recent rains have taken their toll on the footpaths and some maintenance is required. Also, the signage on some of the longer walks can be improved.
Beautifully situated in the Drakensberg with gorgeous gardens and views
It is a rather steep property so be sure you can handle stairs
Beautiful location and wonderful facilities and staff.
The area, view and exellent service by staff. Great meal options.
Staff were very helpful, rooms great and the meals excellent. Wonderful location, views fantastic
Nothing to dislike
The food was amazing - high quality with varying menus. The waiters and restaurant staff were excellent and attentive. A wonderful manager was on duty during my stay and frequently checked in at meal times to ensure I was ok. Great daily guided hikes from the hotel and comfortable accommodation. A wonderful place to relax and recharge in a beautiful part of South Africa!
Nature, food , friendly staff.....felt like heaven. Wish it could be more affordable for South African citizens with families, little bit expensive to us.
Light is to close to door, alot of misquitos in room with open windows. But we managed it ,by keeping all windows closed until lights is switched off.
The staff were brilliant and the setting is incredible. A special shout out to Lawrence who went above and beyond during our stay. The food was also excellent (and unlimited)!
Some of the decor is quite dated, but that’s also part of the charm.
The location and network of trails was amazing. It was nice to be able to hike without having to drive to the trailhead. Property was cozy and quiet, with beautiful views.

We have been here before and we will return. Put simply, this is in the top 3 of all of the many places that we have ever stayed, and we have stayed at a lot. Room, staff, location, food, dogs, cats, friendly fellow guests, excellent activities: I simply cannot fault this place.
As I said, I can't fault this place!!!
I had a wonderful stay - loved every detail: the superb location, the place with its long history, the commitment of the staff, the food (phenomenal !!), my room, and the intermediate level walks that I joined in. Moneywise it may not be a bargain - but it's worth it - really. I think that's my first (or second?) 10 point rating ever - I can't find nothing at all to complain about.Okay... maybe except for the weather which can - as we all know - be quite changeable in the mountains. If it rains, just snuggle up in one of the lounges and have a good read with you.
Location was fabulous, food was great and the staff were wonderful. Such a great hotel for kids with tons of kid friendly activities.
There was a smell coming out of one of the bathrooms. We paid in extra for the 3 bedroom option but I don't think it was better than the normal rooms. Not sure the price is justified for a tiny lounge and 2 of the 3 bedrooms had no view.
Beautiful environment, gorgeous mountain views, lots of outdoor and indoor activities and exceptional food. Family friendly.
Nice touches given it was our anniversary
Being charged extra to play bowls. The room rates are high enough to include all activities
