Pros +
- Lovely room (2 bedroom family room), which was very clean and comfortable.
- I loved the beauty of the location, the great bar and restaurant, plus the beautiful rooms. The rooms were beautifully decorated and so lovely . I am a Pennington from the United States and I came to investigate my ancestry and family while visiting the castle . I was so impressed with the hotel and the surrounding countryside plus the history of the area .
- Quiet ,location and friendliness of the staff
Cons -
- Breakfast service was a little slow and the restaurant is on the pricey side. There's not many options for eating out in Ravenglass because it is so quiet (which is part of its beauty) but can you drive to surrounding areas.
- Nothing ! All was amazing . Great food and staff ! Beautiful area!
- Few little things needed attention. Bathroom lights faulty and shower head dripping constantly. However these were little things Nothing major that stopped us enjoying our stay or recommending to others.

Great location and friendly staff. Good food and well done decor. We had a wonderful time and would recommend.

Food was spot on. Staff were very friendly and quick to help with any requests.
The view
Very clean and extremely welcoming staff, they made the wife and I (plus our two dogs) feel very welcome. It was great to chat to other guests that have returned on multiple occasions.
Minor point, getting into the shower was a little clumsy, the sliding doors are very narrow and poorly lit.
Superb hotel - really lovely team and welcome. Nice food in the restaurant. Location is a bit remote from central lake district but beautiful sunset views over the sea and very close to Was Water and Scaffell Pike. Hotel is filled with charm and character - we had the family room which was very generously proportioned. Very quiet location. A bite remote from nightlife and late night eateries.
Staff were nice and helpful, room was large and comfortable. Food was excellent
We were on the ground floor and the people above were up and down all night and the floor boards were really creaky and noisy.
The hotel offers spacious well decorated bedrooms, superior bedlinen and towels, nice toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities, you could not really ask for more as far as the bedrooms are concerned. The dining experience is also first class, interesting and unusual dishes feature as well as the staple ones. The location of the hotel at Ravenglass is fantastic.
Nothing!
Liked: Stylish but laid back atmosphere. Good breakfast and dinner. Excellent location. Large, comfortable bed. Disliked: Bedroom very hot with only a small opening to window (ground floor dog friendly room facing the road). Having said that I do like a cool bedroom. Managed to turn the radiators off.
We had 2 mornings breakfasts. The frirst was hampered by a power cut - not the fault of the hotel ! The second morning was the usual breakfast as per menu and was excellent. Generally food was excellent.
The toilet in the rom was difficult to flush which was extremely weak.
Friendly staff..comfortable rooms..lovely location..
Was charged a week later for food and drinks we didn't have. So BEWARE!!
It was my Partners 71st birthday trip and and we had a reservation on the Steam train, and it was in walking distance so we didn't have to drive and just relax. All the staff were really friendly and helpful nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The food was amazing and the menu had a great variety on it to choose from. It was a fabulous few days we would definitely return & recommend it to friends.
Excellent breakfast and good choice, the onsite restaurant is open to non residents which is perfect if you are staying at the local Camping and Caravanning Club site. Its location in the heart of the village within easy walking distance of the mainline railway station and of course the narrow-gauge railway station into the fells.
price, location and friendly staff! sue, mark and the barman were all very very nice. clean and spacious comfortable room. close to the "real" train depot and the mini-train.
if I was older- perhaps stairs may be difficult
Remarkably friendly staff, thank you! The room was spotless and the comfortable. The location was excellent and the sunset was delightful. We usually don't return to the same hotel as we like a bit of variety, but we will return to The Pennington.
With the exception of a few niggles the visit was smashing.Location, food, decor all lovely.I would recommend and re visit.
Drafty single glazed sash windows at the ground floor. You could hear all traffic and people going by.The shower was very good but missing a piece off the control head.Whilst the bathroom was spotless it would benefit from the use of product like mould and mildew around the shower occasionally to eliminate the spots of black mould. However these are observations and not complaints.
Lovely welcoming staff, really nice food & drinks, we had a beautiful room and they were super accommodating for our dog who joined us during our stay.
Lovely dog friendly hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff, great bar, great food, free parking. Absolutely fantastic location, our room had the most incredible sea view.
Breakfast was not included and very expensive.
The food in the restaurant was amazing as was breakfast, the staff were friendly and polite It was everything we expected it to be
