About

Boasting views over Derbyshire and Bolsover Castle, here you can escape the hustle and bustle of city life and benefit from the peace and tranquility of a rural yet accessible location. Formed from a derelict row of colliery cottages, Twin Oaks has been transformed into a beautiful modern hotel while retaining each cottage’s unique character and charm, while retaining the same home comforts, superb dining and the same warmth and charm as always.. The exposed arched stone work is complemented by modern, relaxing suites and an extremely well-stocked bar. In the warmer months, you can enjoy a relaxing moment outside in the beer garden, with a feature water fountain. Right in the center of England, on the edge of the Peak District, the hotel is within easy reach of the M1 motorways and local attractions such as Chatsworth House, Hardwick Hall, Bolsover Castle, Matlock Bath, the charming Medieval market town of Chesterfield and ye old Crooked Spire.

    Pros +

    • Very helpful staff who (despite being younger) just have a very can do and happy attitude. Also Twin Oaks is a good staging post. Not expensive and comfortable.
    • The staff were very good, very friendly even though they looked to be very busy. The place seemed homely, and well presented.
    • The room was lovely, very tidy on comfortable.. TV was from 1990s but not an issue really.... the food was incredible.. had valentines set meal.

    Cons -

    • Room was okay but I had someone out in the corridor for what seemed ages shouting at who I presume to be colleagues, laughing, shouting, very disrespectful. Also the tea making facilities were all there except someone had eaten on of my biscuits!
    • The room we slept was A bit smaller, and close to the main door to the stairs and it was quite noisy
    • Room was a little cramped. There are no frills but we weren't expecting any.

Food and room were lovely. Staff couldn't be better. Our radiator was playing up and someone came and fixed it for us within two minutes of us reporting it. We had the Valentines Day set meal and it was so good!

Staff were lovely, friendly and helpful with queries. Food was excellent and both breakfast and dinner. Very convenient for local and onward travel, we used it as a base to reach Hardwick Hall, Chesterfield and Wentworth Woodhouse

Room was a little cramped. There are no frills but we weren't expecting any.

I enjoyed breakfast. It was a buffet. Variety of stuff. Lovely sitting area.

Bed too small for 2 people. Corridor door was very noisy. Shower sliding door could not close properly.

Was tucked away close to the motorway Spotless the staff especially reception & the young man at breakfast today Sunday 1st February was so polite & helpful

    Couldn't fault the place

    Room was clean and comfortable

Room was very small especially the bathroom.

Had dinner at the hotel and was pleased to find a carvery as the option. Staff very friendly & the food was of a good standard.

The hotel first impressions were a bit odd ... a row of houses. It's a great example of "don't judge a book by its cover".

A comfortable suite at a good price. The location was excellent, close to the motorway, but far enough away not to be troubled by noise. Good on site restaurant serving ab=n excellent steak!

    Not much really!

The staff the food the room and attention to detail throughout the hotel Never crowded and the lamb they serve both as a dish on the restaurant and the lamb on the Sunday carvery was exceptional

No charge to room when eating and drinking in hotel Not what I did not like but a suggestion that the staff have training on how to make cocktails that are on the drinks menu

    9BrianPosted on: 1-20-2026

Staff were amazing food exceptional rooms excellent The foid menu was well planned Sunday carvery was so good and morning breakfast good choice of items

Having to pay for extras on your card as you got served Please update your system so you can charge to the room Happy to pay once a day

Was clean. Small room as expected.

The food served on the night in the restaurant/ pub is very overpriced. £8.50 for nachos for them to be basic is ridiculous. Lasagne was mushy and a lot of what we had was microwaved. For a higher price point I’d expect it all to be of a higher quality. Although did see someone have the mixed grill which was the only thing that I thought actually looked decent. The concept of a breakfast buffet is great however having such low quality food was really disappointing. Watered down orange and apple juice, fatty processed cheap sausages. Everything just seemed really low quality which I find very disappointing. Would make a huge difference to just invest some more money into basics of the food especially if you could try and use more local produce as it really does make a huge difference and isn’t something that should be over looked.

    Disappointing

Noise from above and next rooms as the ceiling and walls have no sound proof isolation

    4KarenPosted on: 1-4-2026

    Staff delightful

Parties every night of our stay, room freezing cold on arrival, no hot water on second morning.
