    Pros +

    • The staff were pleasant and the meal we had was nice .the bed was comfortable
    • The location is ideal. But there is more hotel parking and parking on the square is restricted to disc parking. So, had to park in Tesco. The breakfast was good,, but not served until 10000 and was not included in the room rate. Dinner was good and service was OK but amateur.
    • Location is great, staff very friendly.Clean and comfortable - but the facilities in the rooms are very basic.

    Cons -

    • Only had one pillow each ..the bed was comfy...very basic for the money room has kettle ..cups and tea..coffee etc ..but for 2 guests only 1 chair to sit on .. does not have any extras in the room ie hair dryer ...and no mirror in the bathroom ....handle missing off one of the windows so lucky we didn't need to use the window .. traffic throughout the night was continuous and there is a clock out there which chimes 5 strikes every 15 mins so didn't get much sleep over the 2 night stay ...also misleading regarding parking as they don't have a car park we had to park in the carpark opposite and was fine there luckily ...also we didn't know until we got there on the Tuesday that the kitchen is not open on a weds so no food was available ..so we went out to eat ...also where our room is you can access it from the bar but not always so you need to go outside and use a separate door on the street to get to your room ..we stayed on a Tuesday and weds night ... .I probably won't stay there again. ..as it wasn't for me as found the car parking and the kitchen not being open on the weds a bit of a surprise as didn't know that until we actually got there and as it said they had free parking we was told that they no longer have it as building company had taken over it when we asked at the bar where the cra park is but when I book places I always check for parking so felt but disappointed in that as was misleading in the booking reference .... • We were informed that breakfast was not included. We had to pay separately. Also it was not available until 1000. Bot Friday and Saturday nights there was loud music in Workies Bar and people leaving at 2 AM. We did not get much sleep. The beds were old and uncomfortable. Though the rooms were clean. My sister's room the heating did not work and the TV kept coming on automatically. So we had to unplug it. There was only bars of soap available and no shampoo. The bar staff were businesslike, but not over friendly.

Location is great, staff very friendly.Clean and comfortable - but the facilities in the rooms are very basic.

    Basic hotel

Clean, warm well appointed rooms -apparently built where a night club used to be! Easy location - parking on the street

No food be eaten in the rooms which was a shame with a pizzaplace just across the road. When you turn off the main light an eerie green security light comes on so the room doesn't go dark -so it was bit hard to get to sleep. If I end up staying there again I'll take an eye mask

Very helpful staff, great food and beer

There was a huge error with Booking.com (Yet again Booking.com) Sue was very professional, polite and courteous! Sue went out of her way to make phone calls to ensure the issue was resolved.

Think the cleaners had missed that room (A lot of thick cobwebs up to the left of the window) The shower cubicle had a lot of mould and bad lime scale, unable to shower

Right in the heart of the town, with a lively evening bar. Good selection of beers and spirits, and very cheap compared to most venues. Big bedroom with lots of coffee and tea, without needing to bother reception etc.

    Was generally clean ⁹

Had a smell of old cigarettes everywhere, the noise was significant from outside. TV kept turning itself on through the night. There was a plastic bag over the smoke detector. Said there was parking, but there wasn't, the parking was on just streets around or risking a ticket on the square itself.Loads of people congregate by the door in smoking from the pub/working mens club, which to a female felt really intimidating to have to walk through.

    Pleasant staff. Comfy bed.

It felt basic, but comfortable. Would be really useful to have WiFi code available in room.

    8MaeliahPosted on: 8-4-2025

Room size was nice, staff were friendly, room was clean, shower was great.

Room was incredibly hot and there was no way to cool down, Tv remote didn’t work well

Was everything we needed. Staff and locals were very friendly. Room was really clean. We booked an extra night last minute with the staff and it was cheaper than booking.com

    7StevePosted on: 7-13-2025

Nice well appointed and clean room

No food available and late loud music from the bar

    3VeronicaPosted on: 6-24-2025

    Convenient location

Advertises as B and B without breakfast facility. Initially refused accommodation because I had a Hearing Assistance Dog with me. Took some considerable time to persuade manager to allow access.

room was well appointed, good en suite facilities, hot drinks, table fan, very comfy bed.menu looked good value but i didnt eat so cant comment on the food

double room was quite small with a small double bed so maybe not for a couple or for more than 1 night.road outside was very noisy, not the pubs fault

    8LynnePosted on: 6-8-2025

Very friendly staff lovely clean room value for money

Unfortunately it was quite noisy as there was an event taking place later afternoon until the pub closed

    7KeegansPosted on: 5-31-2025

The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. The food was great. Rooms roomy, clean and comfortable. We have used The Bear a few times as we have family locally.

The noise in the street till 2.30 am coming from the local night club on both nights!

    5KarinaPosted on: 5-18-2025

Very friendly staff and good location

Bedroom and the bathroom need more attention to detail, require painting, and showers regrouting. Cuo chipped, so I was unable to use it. The kettle needed cleaning inside and outside before use.

    7DavidPosted on: 5-17-2025

    location fine. bed fine.

Shower was faulty (reported, didn't need complaint, but would have if staying longer!)
