Pros +
- Location
- We appreciated the cleanliness of the beds, and the quality of the mattresses and slept very well. The room and bathroom were very warm. The bedroom and bathroom were quite basic but adequate. The staff who were young lads were very polite and took the time to listen to us. I think they'll go a long way and will assume the responsibility necessary to be promoted.
- So much to like about the Half Moon. Bed so comfortable and location perfect, with a view to die for. Loved could just pop down for a drink and food, staff so nice too.
Cons -
- Not at all, it is an older hotel so it met all of my expectations
- The bath was unacceptable in that it was chipped and rusted. I only took one shower. The hot tap we found out later was leaking considerably. The breakfast plate of full English was good but there was no cereal or fruit. We did, however, have a glass of orange juice thrown in. There was much loud music at breakfast-time which we didn't like, being older people. The restaurant gents' loo was abysmal according to my husband: no lock on the door. The price of a regular Peroni was £6+!! This is excessive.
- Carpets could do with a clean.

Carpets could do with a clean.
Great service, relaxed atmosphere and offered breakfast even though we hadn't booked.
Two mattresses on a king bed so ended up in the middle as a couple
Great location, friendly staff and very clean
Tended to be a little loud outside late into the evening, but I guess that’s expected in a pub.
The hotel is in a superb position. The staff were very professional and helpful. The food was excellent. The service was very good.
My room was small, even for a single, with nowhere to place folded clothes. Wallpaper peeling off behind the radiator underneath the window. This was the same room I had visited two years ago, and the wallpaper was still peeling in the same place. I mentioned it in the review last time. One of the toilet seat fittings was loose and became looser each time one used the toilet. This made the toilet seat move. I reported it and was told it had been fixed. It had, but not properly, so it came loose once again. I did not report it again. Marstons needs to spend some money on upgrading the bathrooms and fit "walk-in" showers to all rooms. I am slightly disabled and walk with a walking stick. To get in and out of the bath to use the shower, I had to hold onto the handrail that is fitted beside the shower. This was a godsend, and well done on them for fitting a rail. Otherwise, I would not have been able to use the shower for four days. I asked if there was a room with a "walk-in" shower and was told yes, it was a family room, with three beds and was on the next floor up. Using a walking stick, another flight of stairs was a no-no.
The location of the hotel was excellent. The food in this hotel was perfect. With bar's, restaurant's within walking distance. Staff at this hotel are fantastic, friendly and efficient. Huge thank you for looking after us.
Great location - right in the town centre, not far from the station. Nice room (I had a single) and it was a good bathroom complete with bathtub
Better choice of menu for evening meal
location, clean rooms, very helpful staff, good parking, food options good especially breakfast, easy check out and check in procedure
I thought it wasnt great to have the staff hoovering at the same time as we were having breakfast at about 9.30 Am on Saturday- it was really noisy. The sound proofing in the room could have been better and the fittings a bit newer ( but all in full working order and clean)
This is my second overnight stay. The Half Moon is within a mile of the location that I'm visiting, very competently priced and serves decent pub grub. The rooms also have baths, I much prefer this to showers.
Nothing- I really like this hotel/pub.
Nothing as we couldn't stay
Unfortunately, as we were driving into Sherborne with elderly family members we had a call to say the reservation was cancelled. They had no water! Only two suggestions were given about where else we could stay no other support was given. As we were going to a family funeral the next day we wanted to be close to the Abbey. The local suggestion of a hotel was going to be double the price of the Half Moon and the other suggestion was 6 miles away in Yeovil. As we had already been travelling for over 4 hours this extra travelling was most unwelcome. I appreciate that with no water it was not possible for us to stay but more help in getting us beds for the night would have been welcome. It made for a fraught last part of our journey at a time of great stress.
Well positioned and easy to find.
Being charged £12 for parking with no prior warning. Only refunded on purchasing £12 or more in items from bar which I did not wish to do.
Room lovely, staff lovely, location ideal
Artificial duvet was quite sweaty
The friendly staff who made my sons and I feel very welcome.
I have received a traffic fine for parking in the lot that I was told was free. Can I challenge this? I was resident there and even registered my vehicle, number LV25VMR
The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was good for an overnight stay and the continental breakfast was good value for money. Free parking in the centre of Sherborne was a real plus.
Great location. Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable beds. Clean room. Not very good coffee in room.
Excellent locationBreakfast was good, coffee was excellent
Price/performance was excellent value for money.
Very central. Useful car park
The shower head came off on top of me whilst I was in the shower. Bathroom light flickered and wouldn’t work properly. The whole place could do with new carpets and a coat of paint. They wouldn’t do an early breakfast for us.
Location was ideal in the centre of town with its own car park. The room was clean and staff friendly in particular Tracy. Fair price and decent ale.
Quite a few items were not available on the evening menu and the breakfast was basic.
A great location with good parking and friendly staff. The room was large and clean, breakfast was tasty and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was good and we enjoyed our stay.
Although the room was great ,the decor was very tired and both the room and bathroom needed a coat of paint.
