Pros +
- The staff were very helpful. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated and the beds and sheets very comfortable. Lots of hot water, quiet bed rooms. Good breakfast options.
- The location of the hotel was great to explore the Isle of Purbeck. Our rooms were compact, nicely decorated and the bathroom although also compact had good quality fittings. All very clean. The staff were nice and the food good.
- An old coaching inn, right in the middle of the attractive little town of Wareham, The Bear is also a popular place for locals drinking and eating in the bar. My room was quite small but cosy and well-fitted, with good shower and comfortable bed. Breakfasts were excellent, and I also had supper in the bar, interesting dishes and all good. The staff were all friendly and helpful and seemed to form a happy team; I noticed how kind they were with a slightly “difficult” old lady. The efficient “Breezer” bus to Corfe Castle, Swanage and Poole stops almost right outside.
Cons -
- There is nowhere set aside for staying guests to sit and relax , read, drink tea etc. Our dinner service was very delayed , from ordering to eating was over 3/4 an hour.
- Unfortunately we were made to feel an inconvenience being at the hotel at this time of year (5th- 7th January). The heating and fire was turned off in the bar where we were to eat our dinner. The temperature was -3 outside! When we asked the staff to turn the heating on they had to check with the owner first! We, along with our friends were the only guests staying at the hotel. The following evening when we returned at 8.45pm from dinner elsewhere, all of the downstairs was closed up and again heating off! We had hoped to have a drink at the bar and play some games, but it was freezing and the bar was locked! At breakfast there were items not available from the menu and only childrens cereals. Items were purchased for the following morning. We did make our disappointment know at the time and a modest reduction in the bill was made. We were subsequently told 'the hotel operate reduced hours of the bar and communal areas during particularly quiet periods especially at this time of year'. That is rather important information that we should have been told beforehand and therefore would have had the opportunity to book into a different hotel. We also feel we were penalised by booking with Booking.com, that being the reason we couldn't have a room upgrade, although all other rooms were empty on account of us being the only guests!!!
- Nothing worth noting.

Location
I had to move rooms as there was a loud party in the breakfast room below my room - the room I moved to was leaking due to the rainstorm so I had to move back and await the end of the party before I could get any sleep.
Exception staff - friendly & efficient. Very comfortable rooms. Amazing food.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. We had a guided tour and history of the hotel. The food was great and the breakfast was lovely. We will definitely go back.
It was all good.
Ellie served us for breakfast very nicely. She was responsive and attentive. The rooms had beautiful decor and were well supplied and clean.
Full of lovely interesting decor and pictures. Very comfortable beds and warm cosy rooms.
All perfect
Location
Bedroom small but expensive
Good breakfast
Would like a firmer pillow. they were a bit soft for me. Bar area very small but we were able to have a drink there without booking.
Really fantastic food, the staff were lovely. Rooms are spotless and warm.
Lovely and warm. Tastefully furnished
Room was very small but comfortable
The room was small, but perfectly formedNice bathroom, good showerThe breakfasts were very goodAll puic rooms welcoming Staff friendly and professional
We wouldn't have booked at that price if we hadn't needed a base in Warminster
Excellent location in main street with a welcoming and helpful staff. There was always a good atmosphere in the bar. We dines on one occasion and found the food to be of good standard with a reasonably wide wine selection.
The desk in the bedroom was a modest sized highish table whose surface area was largely take up with the oversized welcome tray and kettle. There was just one chair - a low armchair which was far to low to use to try to sit at the table to write or to use a laptop. I did mention this and was promised that a better chair would be sourced but no alternative chair was ever offered in the following days. The room lighting was very poor - best light for reading was obtained when sitting on the lavatory. There was no residents' lounge either as an alternative venue for reading. Very limited offering at breakfast - only granola type cereals with no corn flakes, weetabix or shredded wheat for example and the only fruit being berries and a compote but no fruit bowl not even a banana.
The hotel was very good. In particular, the staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The room was pretty good, the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent
The fabric of the communal areas was a bit tired, areas of damaged paint, etc. We felt that the cost (£200 per night) was a bit steep
Convenient situation, good food , comfortable
Would be better with parking but we were able to park nearby
Lovely staff, and very nice comfortable room and a huge bed.
Location is superb to explore Wareham
No car park however the town is very reasonably priced for a 24 hour stay
Interior of the hotel was welcoming and cosy. Staff were excellent, very attentive. Lovely clean room and bathroom. Good choices for breakfast
We were in Yogi room and right outside our window was the extractor from the kitchen which was very noisy so couldn't open window at night as too loud to sleep.
Individual character Lovely breakfastQuietA bit ‘different’Good chef the night we ate at the hotel
No on site parking - which had been informed but was still a pain!We stayed in ‘Yogi’ and the shelf above the sink was rusty which spoiled an otherwise lovely room.
