    Pros +

    • The bed was very comfortable. I appreciate the fact that Dino let me switch rooms when I felt the first one was isolated and a little creepy. The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (RH&DR) was right across the street.
    • food was excellent. variety of hot drinks in room was good. staff were helpful. good value and location was very good.
    • We loved the friendliness of the hotel and the excellent customer service by Dino and his team which made our stay just perfect !The Communication by them was very good indeed right from the moment i booked , which is always a big plus for me, as it shows an attention to detail and a caring approach. The room we stayed in was light an airy with good double glazing with both side and front aspect opening windows, it was very clean and had everything we needed, we felt it represented exceptional value for money.

    Cons -

    • I did not like being locked into a deserted, unstaffed building all night, especially as a solo traveller. I did not like that the hotel and pub were different businesses, so that there was no common area for the hotel, but also no boundaries between the two, if that makes sense. The rooms were through a door from the pub where anyone could enter. Finding my way back out was not intuitive. A few "Pub this way" signs would help.
    • Black out curtains would of been better as alot of light let in. new battery's needed in control for tv.
    • Having to leave ☹️

room was clean and bed comfortable,

no breakfeast or food on site in the early AM - toilet didnt function very well and bathroom had no heating so it was like an ice box when you woke in the AM to shower.

We used the Captain Howey as we were going on the RHDR for their valentines dinner. So it was the perfect location.

When we arrived the room was freezing and we couldn't turn the radiator up. But I called the guy and he came out quite quickly. He found that the heating had been shut down as no one had been staying. Luckily we were going out because when we got back the room had started to warm up but was still chilly, even with 2 electric heaters on as well as the radiator. I understand thst heating is expensive if no one is using the rooms but I feel that the room should have been checked and the heating turned on in the morning of our arrival. So that it was warm when we arrived after travelling 200 miles from Somerset. We didn't appreciate having to drink a well needed cuppa in our coats.

good value breakfast in the pub.

on arrival the pub staff did not know which room key to give me,i was informed the restaurant was closed on tuesday/wednesday, the booking web site did not identify this!. the rooms were not part of the pub and therefore could not supply a VAT Receipt, i was given a card with the room owners e mail i requested one from him so far no reply this is unacceptable as this was a business trip i need this receipt to make a claim.

Staff were friendly and location was good

Absolutely freezing cold no heating on. Bins filthy in room. Although texting me to find out arrival time no one to greet and show room or explain anything. Didn't stay for breakfast as so cold got in car to warm up and go home

Breakfast was excellent but did not start serving breakfast until 9.00am. Could have been a little late for meeting had chef and staff not pulled the stops out for us.

We were given a front door key and told we could go and come at will. However door to restaurant and exit was locked over night (to almost 9am in the morning) so without using the car park/emergency external exit we were to all intents and purposes locked in. I would have thought for health and safety and fire this door should NEVER be locked.

Dino just makes it very easy. It's the second time of staying here recently, great food too, and a great atmosphere in the bar, massive thanks to the people you don't see who make the place a success too ( like the cleaners and the kitchen staff)

    Nothing not to like

Location was great for us visiting the railway

Kettle was unusable had a lot of timescale. Easily fixed for next time.

We needed somewhere to stay for just one night and the accommodation was fine for that.

We took it for granted that breakfast would be available but it wasn't.

The room was a good size and the bed comfortable

I was not made aware that the hotel was run separately to the pub. On arrival I was given a card to call the reception, it was the wrong card. I then called again and was told which room I was in. I’d made the hotel aware that I needed early check in beforehand. The door handle itself wasn’t securely attached to the door which made it trickier to open. The kettle plug did not work unless you pushed it in. On leaving we had to exit via a steep metal external staircase while carrying bags as the pub door was not yet open. This was at 9.30. Would not recommend for anyone unsteady on their feet.

Lovely clean and spacious room and shall most definitely use again and happily recommend.

I didn’t get to meet the hotel staff so did not comment on that as the bar is completely separate to the hotel, as I was told by the bar staff. However that is no put off my room was spot on and I was very happy. I dealt with the hotel via message and my room was ready when I arrived. The only advice I would give is just to let people know how to get out in the morning, I did work it out but threw me to begin with, but again no put off.

It was clean. Great breakfast. Good location

The room was exceptionally hot, even with the window open all night and the water in the shower didn’t drain away properly

    Clean comfortable room.

The bar and restaurant are not run by the hotel. Access to the rooms when the bar and restaurant are closed is from the rear fire escape.

Owner was super nice in accommodating early check in and taking care of the sick. Thanks!

Excellent location for RHDR - our main reason for visiting.Beds made up and towels changed each day. Plenty tea, coffee & milk available + biscuits each dayExcellent food in restaurantFree wi-fi - good connection

Room was very basic. Communal stairs needed a good hoover. Dirt noticed on arrival still there 3 days later when we left. Breakfast not available until 9am - we were on our way out for the day by then.Disappointed no reference to Captain Howey - namesake of hotel.

Ideal location as I was doing business at New Romney Station opposite. Comfortable room, and mostly quiet at night.

Breakfast not available before 9 am - I think people should be aware of that when they book. To be fair, the staff had directed me to a bakery about 12 minutes walk away. And no-one made clear which door the outside key was for, and the door between bedrooms and the bar was unexpectedly locked at 8 am, so it took me some time to find my way out.

    Location was convienient

Not what I expected for price.. Shower was Luke warm .. and no pressure. Room was stuffy dusty very small window.. And damp on roof.. Black mold. No hotel staff at all.. .had to find room myself.. And breakfast only available to buy after 9am.. When the pub opens up.. totally seperate buissnes from the rooms... so had to go greggs every morning at 7am ish. To get coffee.Completely over priced.. I've had better £50 a night accomadation.. and the little tv on the wall had a red line straight down the middle. And the room bin was completely full when I got there.. No safety or fire drill information in room. And no WiFi code to be found.. Over all extremely disappointed.
