Pros +
- The staff were welcoming and attentive to our needs and genuinely committed to making sure we enjoyed our stay. Both service and food in the pub were exceptional. My wife feels dinner here was better than anything in London and Paris. Pints were cold!
- Location cleanliness good food friendly staff can’t fault my stay.
- Friendly staff
Cons -
- Accessibility features were minimal and provided some challenges for us, especially navigating two sets of stairs to reach our assigned room.
- Shower mouldy sealant.Breakfast room cold.
- Large patch of mould or damp on the wall, really let's this room down, room 2. The room was freezing when we arrived and we turned the heating up. The toilet roll holder is missing off the wall and left on the side. I know this is a period building and old, it's what I like. However there is no excuse for lack of general maintenance and lack of attention to details in your rooms. Two very easily fixable little jobs, just left. The biggest disappointment was returning from the show at 10:15 pm the 6 of us, hungry and thirsty for a few drinks and a bottle to take too our rooms, only to find everything was closed, reception the bar and restaurant. Not a soul insight, so the front door was left open and unattended all night. Deliveroo do not cover this area, so no food or drinks. Really disappointing end to a fantastic evening. The website states 11pm, partly why we booked the hotel. Breakfast served until 9:30am.

Breakfast was excellent and so were the evening meals which were varied and good comfort food
Great stay at the Kings Head. Good location & has lots of character. The room was spacious & comfortable, & the staff were really helpful. The breakfast was hot & tasty!!
The bed in room 2 is huge and so comfortable, the room is very big and not near the squeaky stairs. The meal was nice we had for lunch and the location is great for Thursford.

Good value. Easy to find and get to. Good size clean room.Friendly staff, once we found them, and the pub looked great.
More of a pub with rooms. No one on reception when we arrived, so had to fight my way across crowded bar to find someone. I’m not sure if this is normal or just particularly busy in the build up to Christmas. We had the top floor family room, and the noise from the road all night meant we really couldn’t get a good nights sleep, despite the comfy beds. Heating was from electric heaters, which we struggled to get right, though not really the hotels fault.
The team were very welcoming, accommodating and friendly. The room was excellent: clean, plenty of space, homely and had an enormous bed. We had a great lunch at the hotel.
Nothing, it was a perfect stay.
Decided against breakfast but had a lunch and it was lovely. Staff very nice
It was great
We didn't eat at the hotel but the room was lovely and had all the facilities needed
Nothing - it was all fine
The hotel was perfect for us. It was near to thursford, which is why we chose it.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Couldn’t ask for more.
Comfy beds, clean, good breakfast
We had dinner the first night, well cooked, tasty , well presented with great service and staff. The breakfasts on two mornings we were there were as one would expect, good value too. The Wi-Fi was strong , so good reception.Would return again and recommend to all.
As a hotel it would have been nice to be able to get a nightcap when we returned from Thursford at just before 11pm, the bar seemed to be already shut. It would have been appreciated if the radiators in the room were on before we arrived without having to ask, but a minor indiscretion which didn’t deflect the overall impression
A very charming old pub / hotel in a rural setting. Very helpful staff, lovely bar and dining area with nice atmosphere. Good shower and bathroom
All was good
Location good. Breakfast Lovely
Food service finished early without notice so had to look for somewhere to eat.Check in staff left reception at 3pm to serve in tve bar. They new we were in the bar waiting to check in...then left us waiting. No heating on in the room..when I asked it needed a boost. No apology or heads up that it was done and we needed to be sure to warm the room before we left for food.Chair in front of murror/dressing table was uncomfortable, no sponge. Just sitting on wood and all the material was peeling off.Toilet didn't flush. No apology just a grin when we told them.
Friendly staff. Comfortable room. Good food. Good service.
Room not serviced on our 2 night stay
Evening meal was lovely, good honest pub food, thoroughly enjoyed it, tasty, hot and plenty. Breakfast was good value and very good.
Seating in the pub could be better.
Location for visiting family
Check in we waited a while for someone to come to the desk The first night we had a super hard bed and woke up with bad backs like sleeping on the floor bed was so so hard We asked to be moved and got a different room with a much comfier bed. The shower in both rooms looked like they needed a good scrub and in the second room, around the shower looked like it was rotten and falling away There was also mould and something growing just outside our first roomStaff were friendly and we had a night cap in the bar one evening
The room was spacious , bed very comfortable and tea coffee facilities outstanding. Location is perfect for visiting family. Room nice and warm once the heating comes on (seemed to be on a timer)
The green exit light illuminated the whole bedroom. Rather too bright. Too much road noise as room situated on busy junctions. Shower head needs a good de-scaling as not all the outlets worked which was a shame being a large overhead shower.
