About

Originally a 16th century farmhouse, this friendly country inn is set in its own grounds, overlooking the small town of Blackwood, near Newport, with the Brecon Beacons within easy reach. Pengam Brewers Lodge is a pub, restaurant & event suite with accommodations, all rooms are on the 1st floor above so you may experience some noise. Room rates are room only, our restaurant isn't open for breakfast but there are lots of cafes nearby. Train Station is 2.7 miles away and there is a bus interchange just 0.5 miles away. There are 15 modern rooms with attached bathroom, each with satellite TV. WiFi access is available throughout. Brewers Lodge was once owned by the family of the infamous Captain Henry Morgan. Just a short distance from some of the region’s most beautiful woodland, the lodge is nevertheless within easy reach of the cities of Newport, Cardiff and Bristol.

    • Our room was above the bar and 1 night we wanted a early night but sadly there was a lot of noise from down stairs which I know cant be helped but it did stop by 11.30. Maybe a bit more storage in the bedrooms, and a bit of tlc needed with the decor
    • Bed was uncomfortable
    • Rooms a little tatty need some care and attention.Mould on the ceiling in bathroom, toilet roll holder rusty.

Very friendly staff, good on site restaurant. Easy check in and out

    7EmmaPosted on: 2-1-2026

    It was clean and tidy.

The bathroom is in desperate need of a new toilet roll holder as the one currently in the bathroom is beyond rusty, and the bathroom floor has some kind of leak.

    7PhilPosted on: 1-15-2026

    Bedding and room was clean.

Bathroom however has clear mold in places and the extractor fan didn't work.Room was quite noisy when the pub was open.

Very friendly locals. Made very welcome.

Rooms could do with an update. But then for the price we paid it was satisfactory. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed due to illness but we had a taxi to the local Italian which was fabulous.

Perfect location for us and great vibe in the hotel

The shower was a bit dated and mouldy, could do with a re seal around the shower.

Nice meal and great service from the staff

Noise from below but had a great sleep when bar closed.

    Very clean room,had everything needed

Noise until late from downstairs bar, however I was aware of this before booking

Ideal for what I wanted for an overnight stay

They hadn’t received my payment although it came out of bank account 10 days before. I was a bit concerned about that.

    10HughPosted on: 11-16-2025

We didn’t have breakfast. But we did eat in the evening and the food was great. The team behind the bar were all great. Friendly and fast.

    10RonaldPosted on: 11-14-2025

Nice friendly welcome on arrival. Rooms spotless, Staff phoned us a taxi to get to the party we were attending. Wish we had longer to try the restaurant. Will definitely stay again

    Nothing not to like

Attractive and comfortable roomVery friendly and accommodating staff

No WiFi at all during my stay even though it was advertised. As I was travelling alone I was unable to contact family and due to being on a pay as you go phone I found myself isolated and out of pocket due to constantly 'topping up'. Disappointing.

    10RobertPosted on: 11-10-2025

Good parking , easy room access.

Probably just too far to walk back from town as hilly.

    10MichaelPosted on: 11-9-2025

Vibrant and lively with a lot of atmosphere. Immaculately presented room with a great shower room. Highly recommended. Will return.

No dislikes really. The 3pm check-in time and 10am check-out represented quite a narrow stay in my view. As an example, Ibis Premier Inn or Holiday Inn all run with 3pm to 12noon (they do offer an earlier check-in time of 2pm). The Mercure is an 11am check-out.

The room was nice and big enough for a lone person. The area is nice and the bed was lovely and comfortable and very clean.

This is a very busy pub very loud all night and did not get much sleep. This is the second time I have stayed at this pub and thought it would be quieter than the summer as no one in the beer garden, but I was wrong. My room was right above back entrance where everyone smokes.

Nice and easy to find, lovely room for the price. Nice and comfortable, had all the amenities we needed.

    Nothing!
