Food in the restaurant was good but slow

Room was very average. Small double bed and was sold as “entire unit” on the ground floor with a pool view. When we checked in we were given a room in the second floor with no pool view. We were then moved to a ground floor with a pool view .. a very average room.

Well located. Practical room with refrigerator. Good bathroom. Quiet AC

Good hotel on the road to other stops. It has a pool for a quick swim which is nice after a long travel. The staff was nice and attended to our needs.

Rooms could use a bit of an upgrade. Pool could be cleaner.

I was really underwhelmed about this hotel, the rooms were dated in terms of design and there were no bar fridges. It did not feel like I was getting value for my money. The breakfast spread also left a lot to be desired.

the hotel needs a renovation, bathtubs removed in favour of showers, bar fridges and the breakfast spread improved. The management need to honestly compare this protea to one in an urban area and if it doesn't match up reduce the price to match the standard offered

The staff and pool area

tv channels very bad no movie channels or dstv channel , just sports and news and NBCAircon didnt blow as cold as it should A fridge would be really beneficial as its hot and we need to keep water cold

Breakfast serving employees were very good!

Curtains and towels in the room should be replaced, very old, teared and broken.

Room without bar fridge, no side plates, no sugar

Bed are old , Carpet are full of dust and smell

Nice set up and specious generally.

Don’t get fooled by the Marriott name and brand. Keep your expectations low as this is a motel-like-hotel and you will get similar hospitality. Staff members (especially those at the reception desk) could have been trained better in customer service. Slow and disinterested folks who don’t seem very eager to be there. It’s a shame.

Bad bad bad

Waited 2 hours for food and eventually did not receive any food. No cheese for burger or pizzas. No key cards. Waited 25 min for every round of drinks. No barman. Waiter was pathetic.No towls. No toilet paper. No water in shower. Very bad experience. No manager. Bad bad bad. Emediatly canceld my other booking.

Julia, the receptionist, is extremely unpleasant. She acts like she is doing a favour to the clients... and definelty has zero training in dealing with guests

Old, run down, maintenance lacking

Location is good, the hotel is close to CBD and very near to pick n pay supermarket.

Bad smell in the room, old linen, dirty carpet. Low water pressure (shower).

I stayed at the Protea Hotel for 3 days. the whole time the booking and invoicing system was offline

Overall, a great trip, we arrived late and I was very impressed with the service we received. Checking in was seamless. The room was very comfortably, wifi worked perfectly and the breakfast was delicious.

You could see the hotel has older infrastructure so some of the amenities could use some updating. Especially in the bathroom, the bathrooms could use some updated infrastructure. So as not to feel too vintage.

We really liked the fellow who helped us get our bags to our rooms. He was also helpful in the dining room, taking care of our needs, reserving a table for us and being very attentive. We were grateful that he was there!
