Pros +
- We loved this little town. The manager was such a kind man, we really appreciated him
- The location and Hotel were fantastic, however because of the location parking outside the center is necessary. Great place if you like the spaghetti western; The good, the bad and the ugly. Last scene Sad hill cemetery is there.
- Really traditional hotel in a delightful village. The owner was really helpful & a delicious rustic evening meal miraculously appeared for a party of 6 on Sunday night when every other restaurant was closed.
Cons -
- A bit difficult to get to because of construction
- We had a meal in the hotel, I chose the baby leg of lamb. I was dry and disappointing. Note to self don’t eat there.
- Noisy airconditioner (standalone device on the floor). Be ready for church bell ringing sound in the morning.

Amazing interior of the hotel. Nice catering place outside.

Location
Noisy air conditioning it was a plugged in mobile one that had seen better days sounded like a badly serviced motor bike!!! awful!!
Very nice location, super attentive staff, spacious room and good dinner.
The restaurant was rather pricey.
Everything and most of all the hospitality, location, original style and food
Always a warm welcome. A historic building in a lovely Spanish village. We always pay extra to have a front facing room on the second floor overlooking the square. Breakfast of freshly cooked eggs to order, toast, fruit, ham etc can be taken indoors of sitting out the square. The church bells ring for 15 minutes every evening before mass. What joy
A great little off the beaten track hotel - close proximity for visiting Sad Hill cemetery (the Good the Bad and the Ugly ?). Perfect if you are looking for non commercial and authentic Spanish culture.
We really enjoyed our stay but a few little touches were missing - no water or tea/coffee facilities in room and no options given for breakfast.
I had a wonderful stay at a charming hotel located across from the historic abbey. The property was adorned with beautiful antiques, and my room featured a lovely bathtub and plenty of hot water. The staff was incredibly attentive, gracious, and accommodating, making my stay feel truly special. Despite its elegant atmosphere, the hotel offered affordable prices.
Nice old hotel. Clean room.
Limited on meal selections. But expected in such a small town.
A very historic yet comfortable hotel right in the middle of town.
Nice to have breakfast included but it's frustrating when it starts about 9!! No effort to arrange a self serve when we said that was too late.
We were recommended to stay in this hotel by some friends who had stayed here before. We were heading from Burgos to Madrid and stayed for one night en route. It's location in the plaza mayor of a village was great, once you'd navigated the small side streets to get there (we were in a car). The hotel is very traditional inside, but the room was modern (if a bit small), as was the bathroom. It was satisfactory for one night, but I'm not sure I could have spent a week there. The hotel has a bar but we chose to sit out in the square and had a drink and pintxo from another bar there. There were several choices for breakfast the following morning, but we just had coffee/tea and toasted bread and jams, which was very good. The town of Santo Domingo de Silos is also famous for its association with The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, as filming of the final cemetery scene is a 10 minute drive out of the top of the village, so that was an interesting addition to the stay.
There seemed to be just one younger person running the front of desk and breakfast; very efficiently I might add. An older lady seemed to be trying to help when she was elsewhere, but didn't understand the Booking.com online booking I'd made, and ended up giving us the wrong room twice. Not necessarily a problem but when you're lugging a heavy suitcase up and down several flights of stairs, the Fawlty Towers-ness of it stops being funny! It's a good job that we didn't initially unpack anything. Additionally, there weren't many sockets in the rooms that we'd been in and out of, so charging phones etc. required some planning.
Very good
The bathroom was not entirely clean - bidet was clearly overlooked, had some long hair on it. Also the pillows were not exactly comfortable. However the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
Lovely village the hotel is on the main plaza where you can drop off your luggage then park at the car parks at either end of the main road. We used the hotel restaurant which was good there are also plenty of bars etc available. We walked around the monastery and also drove to the good the bad and the ugly cemetery
Been before but returned to visit Sad Hill. Charming little hotel in a picturesque village. Friendly helpful staff and a decent meal was had in their restaurant.
A beautiful hotel in the central plaza. Staff and service were exceptional. Food fantastic...they even make their own Gin and honey. I cant wait to go back
Nothing. Everything was perfect
Great, friendly customer service from all of the staff, especially the man on reception and the waiting staff in the restaurant. We loved the rustic feel of the hotel and room. The evening meal we took in the hotel's restaurant was delicious as was the breakfast the following morning. Highly recommended!
The water from the shower leaked onto the bathroom floor quite easily. But this was only a very minor issue.
A really old-fashioned (in the best sense) hotel in traditional style. Cosy rooms (not roomy), two floors to climb without elevator. Perfect location - you cross the road to hear the vespers mass in the convent and return to a very good evening menu in the hotels restaurant. It helps if you understand some Spanish. Traditional breakfast served (no buffet), red wine included. If you like your evening stroll through the village after dinner - say hello to the friendly tomcat at the end of the marketplace.
On arrival the Hotel did not disappoint, it was just as pictured in the images advertised. Check in went very smoothly and as we ventured up to our rooms the rest of the Hotel was amazing, lots of history, pictures, dark wood, superb glass above the enormous main door which has the best view from the 1st floor. And the room itself, wow, what a room! Extremely clean, comfortable and tranquil, we even had water and sweets left for us and there where toiletries in the bathroom too. Wasn't much choice for us on the TV but we didn't really need it, just listening to that quietness overnight and the slight noises throughout the day was enough - best noises in the day time was from the eagle above!! And the breakfast, everything was so fresh and tasty, we got lots of nice items to pick from and the fresh orange juice was lovely, and the coffee was also very nice - this certainly kept us going all day long! Lots of lovely cold wines available, and their Gin was yum! Unfortunately the 2 nights we stayed there we drunk their fridges dry of the bottled lager, but did taste extremely good! Massive thank you to the manager Emeterio and his staff for looking after us so well x
The only slight issues, but wasn't a problem really, was that we did miss the fresh bottles of water for the rooms for the rest of our stay and on returning to the room the evening of day 2 the toiletries had not been replenished/the bathroom bin had not been emptied but we was too tired to go back down to reception and it wasn't that much of a complaint really, just more of a bit of a niggle.
