Nice room, very clean, great breakfast and very friendly staff.

As visitors from the UK, we liked the experience of a rural location in Holland. The room was a bit dated but clean and perfectly acceptable. The food at the restaurant was superb and the breakfast offerings were typical European continental.

We were fine with it but some people might struggle with the steep slatted stairs to the rooms.

Didn’t like anything about this place

Restaurant horrible. Misrepresented poor cut of beef Breakfast tolerable. No change of towels for 3day stay. Towels never dried. Rain caused leak in widow wetting bed

Breakfast was excellent! Extremely friendly hosts and inhabitants of the surrounding area. Cool things to experience in the region (wadden sea, seehonden centre & nearby towns).

A rooster living in a neighbouring house woke us up rather early every day. If the rooster would sleep for one more hour, our sleep would have been better ;).

The restaurant closed at 21:30, thereafter there was no space to relax or than the sleeping room

I think the hotel en restaurant had reopened under new ownership just a couple of days before. The restaurant, food and service was good.

The hotel is dated and basic comfort. Maybe we are spoiled but OK for just one night. Friendly service hope they will be successfull

It was REALLY hot and humid but fan in our room helped a little. more temperature control would be nice.

Continental breakfast with a selection of breads, cold cuts, eggs made to order, juices, yoghurt with fresh fruit and cereals, coffee and tea. Small desk and tv with channels in several languages

Stairs to rooms are somewhat steep but there is a chair lift if needed. They look more challengimg than they actually are. The rooster next door was a little too effective an alarm clock. But there was no reason to stay up late. Rooms are small but comfortable.

I enjoyed my stay at De Oude Smidse. It was everything I needed for an enjoyable one night getaway to the country, near my destination of Lauwersoog. A well-kept, historic and unique building, with friendly, welcoming staff -- who clearly have a good sense of humour, as witnessed by the signage throughout. The food in the restaurant was truly delicious, so much so that I licked my plate. My room was clean and comfortable. I appreciated the bottled water in the room. I recommend De Oude Smidse.

Nothing major, but I would have appreciated an electric kettle in my room, as I make my own coffee in the AM, in my jammies. Second thing that can't be changed, but can be prepared for.... is the walls are quite thin, so if noise from other rooms, or upstairs, would bother you, bring earplugs.

The Room wall is a bit thin indeed but it’s probably inevitable for such old buildings.
