Pros +
- breakfast free choice, excellentsmall cozy village, access only possible by boata few meters of walking to sit at the bay
- Very comfortable hotel, with cosy beds in a lovely and quiet little island. Beautiful scenery and friendly people. Breakfast was nice too.
- I used this hotel while working at the shipyard nearby, and this hotel is just a short walk away. The staff is very friendly and the rooms, however rustique, was up to standard.
Cons -
- Once you've crossed over onto the island, there are no local amenities apart from an Italian restaurant, which was lovely in terms of service and food.
- The hotel could have a small shop in the lobby as the island Kaag does not have any shops at all. Aslo the room would be more comfortable with the ac working.
- Having to pay for the ferry every day can be a bit annoying, but overall, the experience is still very nice and worth recommending. There isn’t much to do on the island itself — originally, we planned to walk around it, but the circular path was closed due to bird nesting.

It’s clearly an older hotel, but everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. The breakfasts were great, and the staff (especially the guy at breakfast) was superb.Keukenhof is close by, and Leiden is also a very nice city to visit. The "ferry" you take to the Kaag hotel is a fun curiosity for kids. It operates 24/7, is quick, and costs €5.50 per car (as of April 2025). Payment is made on the way back to the mainland.

Hotel Orion was chosen as it was close to our cycle route between Rotterdam and Itmuiden. It is on an interesting island served by a short ferry journey which runs 24 hours.Kaag Island has a village on it (Kaag), which although having an enormous ship yard, is a quiet traditional village with thatched cottages, a hotel, and bar/restaurants looking over the lake. It is the centre for many water sports. The hotel is quiet, unusual, and well priced. The host is welcoming and helpful.
The bedrooms are on the first and second floors accessed by external spiral stairs and decks. Not handy for moving luggage or if you suffer from vertigo.
The Hotel has a new management, and it's slowly upgrading it. It has a strong new AC unit that really does the job right away. The room was clean.
The bar isn't working anymore in the evenings.
Property is situated in a great location on Kaag, surrounded by lush gardens and greenery with birds chirping during the day. Perfect getaway from the city.
It is not possible to order food or groceries so you have to go to Sassenheim for the closest appi
Tge trip on the ferry
On booking.com the hotel says they have an open resraurant during my stay, however the resraurant seems to be permanently closed on certain days (including the wednesday i was gere). I had to rush to a local restaurant and beg to eat, as it was already 20h30 by the time i found them and they were closing up.Further the hospitality of the hotel is not on par with the rest of NL. The breakfast buffet was skimpy with nearly no options. The hotel room is from the 50s with a hard bed. Its not recommended for business travellers.
The island is beautiful, and the staff is really kind. The hotel is quite old but the price is ok for what they offer. Breakfast was good too. ?
The bathroom can be renovated and the main beds also
the hotel was closed at check-in time. Booking.com promised to help out but did not give a solution. We and the other arriving guests think the hotel is filing for bankruptcy. Bad situation !!!!!
closed reception , no response !!!
unfortunately among the worst accommodation I have experienced, when we arrived there was no staff on site, there were 3 addicts hanging outside smoking outside our door no. 1, the room smelled of smoke, the room stank of a slight moldy smell, the window was on ventilation when we arrived, the toilet was freezing temperatures, extremely dirty especially the roof vent and toilet, the breakfast consisted of old slices of bread, old cheese Nah never again, no friendly staff
Nice cozy hotel with welcoming and kind hosts. It has all basic amenities and good breakfast. Location is very beautiful. Value for money.
The room for 4 people was having limited space to move.
I liked the staff behaviour a lot. My mom brought me food, and I really needed good refrigerators to store it. The room one was not working properly but when I asked the staff for help, they let me store it in their kitchen refrigerator which I really appreciated. The neighbourhood was also beautiful to walk around in the morning.
I didn't like the location; it was a little too far from Amsterdam. I had to use at least 2 modes of transportation to reach there. Moreover, there is a ferry in front of the hotel, which I was unaware of, and I was charged to just cross the ferry as well.
Basic but adequate accommodation. Comfortable beds and complete breakfast.
With no significant downsides to mention except for the price, which we found somewhat excessive for what it provides.
Good, beautiful location, very friendly and helpful staff.
The room is in need of refurbishment, kids beds are noisy ( squeaky).
It’s quiet location
Rooms noisy!! Had a white towel on my in my bad which was not the hotels one !! They took it ! Not happy that someone seen the Towel in a open back and thought it was there !! I stay in hotel every week never had this
Very nice place, quiet, peaceful, good breakfast, kind hosts
the beds are a bit narrow
Excellent place, very good breakfast, superb rooms, very romantic hotel on a little island
Found by accident on Booking.com looking for home nearish Schipol. Location fabulous - attractive village on island. Very peaceful, bats and birdsong. Easy to get to Den Haag via train. In NL bus stops and train statins sam to have free parking making it very easy to use the excellent public transport - this shod, the the model for other countries like the UK!! Countryside around is most attractive - Dykes, canals old windmills small villages and hamlets, yet so close to the sea side (great sandy beaches) and the Ranstaaad cities. Breakfast was good - fresh bread, hard boiled egg, fruit, cold meat and cheese, jams etc. A good start to the day.
Our room was rather hot and airless, with poor ventilation, although the AC was a boon, but located over one bed so needed to be tuned off at night to avoid cramps. Rooms are accessed externally via tight spiral stairs, ours on the second floor is especially tight with small treads - so not for all, and not for disabled folk. However, we were happy with it. Bar closed at 10pm and breakfast dod not start until 8am, which was too late for us on last day as we had to leave at 7.30 - a shame.
Lovely quite place with a green path to walk with dog nearby
