    Pros +

    • Great location with spectacular views and the owner Jose was really helpful. Easy parking at the front and a short walk to the nearest village.
    • Leaving!
    • The place is really beautiful. Jose is a wonderful host! The breakfast is varied with many things homemade and very good. The room is large and well equipped. The terrace is cute and cosy.

    Cons -

    • The sound-proofing between the rooms was non existent and I honestly thought someone was in our bathroom at one point during the night. I would say this is unacceptable. The cleanliness of the room and bathroom could have been better.
    • No ventilation for room/bathroom. Bedroom too small! Bed too small!
    • The room was quite humid and it is hard to ventilate since there is no real window but only the door. The main problem was that the room is not sound proof, you could hear what happened above or in the next room. The mattress definitely needs to be renewed.

The property is a small piece of heaven. The owner was a lovely host and has welcomed us with warmth and friendship. The breakfast was delicious. Relaxing is the garden after a long day is a must.

Beautiful place to stay. Outstanding scenery and hotel. Kind staff and lovely pets!

José is an incredible host, even though communication in English was a bit difficult. We loved breakfasts on a lovely terrace with José’s friendly dog and his homemade walnut cake. The location is very beautiful and convenient if you have a car. Picturesque landscape with horses and chickens surrounded by green mountains. Quiet evenings on the terrace in front of green meadow and lots of flowers. The villa is beautifully decorated in rural Spanish style.

Bad sound insulation between rooms. The towels could be softer :) lots of mosquitoes in the evening but not excessively bothering. Cleaning in a bathroom can be a little more thorough.

The owner is very attentive to details and makes many of the things available for your breakfast, If you are a coffee lover he also takes great pride in that too. The whole atmosphere of the place is conducive to feeling at home from the covered outdoor areas, small table and two chairs outside your room in the garden and the two areas inside the house with glass walls to provide great views in comfort

We stayed at the Hotel Ibarra for 8 nights in September 2023. The hotel is traditional Spanish but with some lovely design features and quirky touches. We had a corner room with a dual aspect and wonderful views, the room was a good size with plenty of space, the bed was comfortably, there was a fridge which was very useful, and in general everything was very nice and comfortable. We had breakfast each day which was an additional charge but we felt was value for money, it was a buffet with plenty of choice. Jose, the proprietor, provided freshly squeezed orange juice each day and you could have as much as you wished to eat, there was plenty of fresh fruit, a selection of cheeses, lots of meat products, jams, honey, fresh bread, and excellent coffee. The hotel is in an excellent location. You can walk to the local train station in 15 minutes and the train to Bilbao takes about 40 minutes and was inexpensive, the trains are regular and there is a timetable in the station.Jose was very welcoming and his English was as good as our Spanish - which is to say neither of us was proficient, however, we managed to get by and had some conversations. He provided us with a map of the local area and other information. Jose's dog is very much part of the hotel family and welcomes everyone with a wagging tail, he loves to have his tummy rubbed but beware he can also be a grump! He struts about as if he owns the hotel - maybe he does! :-) We were very taken with him and he made us smile. We loved our time here and will plan to be back again at some point in the future. There are lots of places to visit close by, such as a wonderful motor museum with the biggest selection of Rolls Royce's we have every seen, and a very interesting factory where they used to make the Basque traditional berets. And of course the Guggenheim in Bilbao and the funicular was fun. We highly recommend this hotel and thank Jose for making our holiday so enjoyable.

Very nice house, good location with easy access to Bilbao, warm welcome by Jose (and his cute dog), good buffet for breakfast, nice and clean room.

Despite the location it was more noisy than we thought with the train and highway. Not in that way that it disturbed our sleep, mostly when we sat outside in the garden.

    9AdrianPosted on: 7-13-2022

The room was big, It was clean, the beds were very comfortable, the view was great and loads of parking spaces.

There is a main road behind the house and you can hear the cars going by. Night time there are not many cars going by so it is not very noisy.

great location and rustic charm with calming vistas over the Basque landscape

bottled water would have been appreciated

    10CarmelPosted on: 4-29-2022

The owner José was incredibly kind, helpful and good humoured. When he heard our train had broken down in another town, he surprised us by turning up at the station and offering a free lift to his hotel. The Swiss style family owned hotel had stunning views across the rich green valley.Aside from their own beautifully maintained gardens, complete with a water feature and a lush variety of trees, separate tables and chairs were placed on the patio outside the 'hall door' of every room that opened onto the garden.Breakfast was fit for a king, the rooms were pristine clean and the ambiance overall would ideally suit a writer's retreat. Highly recommended.

Our only regret was the short duration of our stay for two nights. Had we realised how enchanting it was going to be, we would have extended it by a further five days.
