Be aware this hotel is located 40 km away on a gravel road with bad quality
Finally we cannot stay there
Very cozy! The rooms are small, and its dormitory style bathroom down the hall, but it wasn’t bad. There’s a sink in the room and urs such a small hotel that the bathroom was always empty when I went in. The staff were very friendly, and the food downstairs was fabulous. The fresh bread was addictive. Lots of small seating areas to sit and relax. We also really enjoyed the free modern art exhibit in the old herring factory next door. It’s a good location for visiting Krossneslaug. Totally worth the long drive to get there!
Small rooms, but we just left our big luggage in the car and brought in what we needed for the night. Definitively not a deal breaker.
The hotel has personality and character in terms of its decor. One can just spend time scanning the antique-level items that are placed throughout the dining room and seating areas. The beds were comfortable. There was a sink in the bedroom which was very convenient. We were invited to an art exhibition that was being held in the defunct herring factory (owned by the same family that owns this hotel). It was interesting to view this factory and enjoy the art exhibition. The staff are very friendly. The breakfast was super, with home made breads (several types), home made yogurt, cheese, ham, salami, slices of hard boiled eggs, tomato slices, juices, sampling of herring (natural and with curry sauce), jams, etc. The dinner was very satisfying - baked butter cod and oven roasted chicken in parmigiana sauce. Both were really tasty.
Only one gender shower & WC for all the rooms upstairs.
The remote location provided spectacular views on drive in .Gravel road and not for everyone who does not like big drop offs etc but stunning scenery. very authentic family run hotel steeped in fishing industry history. Very friendly staff. This was the most unique place we stayed at while in Iceland
Part of its charm was the age of the building and therefore not to the usual motel experience. This was more than made up tho by its character . Just don’t expect ultra modern stuff
Great location…going back in time.
Stairs challenging to get bags to the room. The drive is not for the feint of heart!
Very warm ambience...old style hotel, yes...and that's why I love the place and will return...and again and again also for the very good special Icelandic selection of things to choose from the menu: Among which delicious land fillet from the area and/or cod loin. Perfect selection of red wine from three different countries is a sign of harmonious taste knowledge too. There's also possible to have a simple ice-cream for dessert ❤️ if you're not ready for a pieces of deverse different cakes. Again the ambience dining at the restaurant is something one cannot explain in words ❤️
Having to leave after one nights stay. Lot's of beautiful spots to visit at this remote area...The Krossanes swimming pool and the only grocery shop Verslunarfélag Árneshrepps, Norðurfirði among many beautiful natural spots. At Gjögur there is an airport served from Reykjavik airport. Highly recommend area to visit all the year around ???
Friendly staff, laid-back atmosphere, excellent food, wonderful historic building. And of course dramatic nature (the weather was a bit choppy when I was there so the water in the waterfalls blew upwards instead of falling down.) I had the best time lazing about, reading, doing the jigsaw puzzle and eating good food in the common room during a storm. I heartily recommend booking a tour in the old factory.
Location was amazing! I loved the fact that it was in a lonely place and extremely peaceful and calming. As soon as you enter you feel like walked back in time. the little nick knacks around kept the stay interesting. Talking to locals and staff was easy and fun to talk to. The bedrooms were absolutely adorable, clean and organized. The shared bathroom was clean and smelt great! I would absolutely love to go back and stay again.
The location of the hotel is unbelievable, the small "village" of Djupavik is under a mountain with beautiful water fall. Abandoned factory always full of artwork next to the hotel. The hotel is run be very nice people and you feel at home.
Such a cozy place and the location on Strandir is simply unbeatable: this is one of the most beautiful parts of Iceland and the hotel is right next to the fjord (we had an ocean-facing room). The decor is authentic and full of charm, something that's missing from a lot of hotels these days. I just wish we could have stayed a 3rd night!
Wish we could have done a guided tour of the herring factory but it was apparently too late in the summer.
Visiting Dupavik is a unique experience and Hotel Dupavik is a rich art of that history. The hotel is full of character. Rooms reflect the age of the building. Good dinner and breakfast. The hotel organised a tour of the naerby herring factory
The hotel's location makes it a good choice for basing oneself before heading out and exploring the surrounding area, including the exhibitions right in town. There is also a perfectly good restaurant/bar on the ground floor, as well as a modest lounge, and the upper floor includes a TV area with sofas, where one can relax a bit before retiring to one's room.
Disappointing
Noisy!!! Could hear everything from the other room.Lots of flies in the room!Got bitten by either flies or bed bugs!Breakfast is very poor and unhealthy!
Beautiful cozy place with amazing view friendly staff great food! If you’re traveling in the Westfjords, there isn’t really a better place to stay over for a couple days.
Good diner, good breakfast, the location beside a waterfall and the old fish factory where there is a art expedition. The inside is authentic and relaxing.

The situation, the personnel, the restaurant. Ths herring factory tour was very interesting, well presented by the owners of the hotel.
