- Beautiful location, view on the viaduct, quiet, friendly staff, we recommend it highly
- Location
- The property has no reception just a lady in one of the rooms who you have to ring out for service Rooms are off of a dingy Passageway open to all and sundry at all hours which means you do not feel secure No available breakfast, The place is run down and not very nice place to visit. It is cheap but not much cheaper than the hotel which we stayed in the Loire Valley, the hotel is adequate but should be avoided due to the security element. Pool looked rank and a Large German shepherd Dog roamed free menacingly
Cons -
- The reception / the cleanliness / the service / the food : all were non existent !!!….This is reported extensively in all forums.
- Everything
- When I arrived the Garabit Hotel no one was at the hotel except a cleaner delivering bed linen. Gave her the booking numbers to be told the hotel was unable to provide a room of the type booked, a triple room. The hotel also was undergoing extensive refurbishment which meant that there where live electricity wires everywhere in reception with no bar or restaurant available as advertised on booking.com. Everywhere was filthy and dusty. I have photographic evidence of the state of the hotel as well as a long video of the hotel and consider it to be dangerous to even allow people to stay in it. The advert did not show anything like this. A few other people arrived after us to check in but also walked away due to the condition the hotel was in.Tried to get in touch with booking.com but just an answer phone message so sent them an email immediately outlining the state of the hotelI had travelled quite a distance to stay at the hotel and then to find the hotel could not provide the services I booked very annoying, so I had to rebook another hotel about 2 hours drive from this hotel.Out of all the hotels I have stayed in it was quite frankly the hotel from hell although the location is very nice it has really put me off booking again with booking.comIn my personal view the hotel should never have been listed as there could potentially be a serious accident involving a guest whilst the renovation is ongoing. Still having an ongoing fight to get our money back!! I think booking.com should be ashamed of themselves advertising this as a hotel.

Hotel From Hell!!! Disgusting and shame I cannot upload the video I have.

AppLlingly bad and unsafe
This hotel was deserted and looked abandoned. Paint everywhere. Wiring hanging out, nobody around.we left early the next morning and still had not seen one member of staff. Very old room, needing updating. No WiFi. This hotel is unsafe and should not be taking bookings. A fellow guest arrived after us and his room was unmade with dirty unmade bed and dirty cups etc left by previous guest. Everything about this place was appalling except the view. Booking.com only offered a small credit towards next booking which was unacceptable. We would not use booking.com again
Rooms just been refitted. Bathrooms were excellent
Entrance was undergoing renovations which we weren’t aware of beforehand but understandable when you realise what owners are planning.
Total nightmare and scary time
On set of the Shining. Construction site. No access to staff othercouples wandering about. No answer to phone.Mad French woman shouting at foot of our bed for our passports in middle of night. On leaving confronted by said mad person asking about the room.No apology from her. Might have been on medication. No idea who she was.The worst ever stay.Bit old at 70 to have woman breaking into our room.Don’t stay here ever
Location good had to stop late driving
The shining comes to mind it shouldn’t have been advertised work was obviously being performed no staff no heating very dated
Bad
We thought it was a desolate old lot! No hospitable reception! Dirty rooms and the promised bath was missing. The promised restaurant turned out to be closed, you could only use vending machines. There was so much construction rubbish at the pool and a large German Shepherd was walking around. All in all, this gave such an unsafe feeling that we have indicated not to use this hotel. We are still waiting for a response to refund the money paid.
This hotel is engaged in transition period after 3 years of closing down. The new management is driving an experience of providing digital services instead of human help . For example , food ( hot and diversified ) is available 24/24 This is an answer for challenging the fast increasing cost of services and the shortage of staff in a remote area As result , it is expected to decrease prices ( by 10%) for a room and to attract a low budget category of customers. The manager is enthusiastically driving operations according to this new business model Let see the answer from customers after some time The very strong point of this facility remains its location along the Truyere river and facing the Garabit viaduc , built by Eiffel. Very scenic landscape
Definitely the location on a river with the majestic Eiffel viaduct towering above. Free parking. Ensuite facilities. There was a lift. When this hotel is refurbished it will be a gem.
It needs gutting and redecorating. Doors are literally pieces of plain plywood, not even painted! Walls are so thin you can hear everything from every room. Hairdryer was damaged and just dangling down…I didn’t dare touch it in case I got a shock! The corridor lights were on a timer so in the evening it got terrifying for my 89yo mum when walking to her room and the lights automatically switched off. It was quite some distance in the dark to find a switch to press on.Internet was intermittent so checking in took at least 20 mins. Only one member of staff to greet us so the bar wasn’t open when we arrived at 9:30pm. The restaurant looked tired so we chose not to eat breakfast and that proved to be the right decision as the choice was basic and unimpressive considering the hotel was full. We were then charged city taxes when our confirmation clearly stated we had paid them!! Definitely overpriced for what we received. My husband was ready to walk out and sleep in the car and that was before we opened our room door; it was not made at all. Credit to the cleaners as they changed and cleaned the room very quickly for us. However, my husband was beyond annoyed so it made our stayed very unrelaxing. To be fair to the manager/ owner, he had just taken over 4 months previously so knew he had a lot of work to do and was very accommodating when Mum had a few issues.
This hotel has only one thing going for it, the views are beautiful. The hotel was closed for 2 years, due the death of previous owner. When we used to book this hotel, we did think it could do with some extensive refurbishment, however, service and the food was very good. It is now under new ownership who have done nothing to improve this hotel in any way. The receptionist (who we understand was the daughter of one of the owners) was disinterested and had no idea which rooms had balconies, so she shoved a room key over to us and then disappeared.
We did not like being sent to a room that we had not booked. The receptionist was not available & unable to be found, when we came back down to have our room changed. Thankfully, the barman, who had previously worked at the hotel under the previous owner was able to help us. There were two choices for the dinner given to us for dinner, both of which were not really edible & very poor value for the 25 Euros they charged. We were told by the same receptionist that "this is not a restaurant" despite having a display board outside the hotel saying they have a restaurant!
Restaurant and food very good, location spectacular -by a famous viaduct with lake and good view from room.
there was nothing we didn't like.
pool, staff were very friendly
no food for toddlers
Excellent location. Very Quiet. Swimming pool was a welcome bonus on a hot day. Plenty of parking. Accepted our pet dog.The sheets, towels and mattresses were good quality.Chatting with the new owners they recognise they have a significant work list BUT we would support their efforts.
Hotel is in need of refreshing /repair. Our room had a non functional fridge and wardrobe that was broken and held up by the door. The shower room has a folding plastic door, which limits privacy:(
Lovely view of the viaduct from the bathroom windowLift to our second floor roomPaper tissues in bathroom
Had to ask for pillow slips for our pillows and for the wardrobe to be cleared of assorted bedding etc.Whole hotel needs to be refurbished. No mosquito netting at the windows.Rather chaotically organised, but quite acceptable buffet evening meal.
good location
No air con or fans so it was exceptionally hot. The room was dirty with a baby bottle under one of the beds. There was a small fridge in the room which was plugged in but didn’t work. They did offer food but it was a set menu of melon starter, mussels main & ice cream dessert for 25€ which seemed expensive considering there’s no choice and I wasn’t sure if I’d get food poisoning based on cleanliness elsewhere.the whole hotel & rooms were very dated. Tiles loose on pool so our little boy cut his foot quite badly too
Great location for a stopover with a dog
Very uncomfortable bed. Hotel really could do with an update.
The location was perfect and staff very accommodating great place for a stop over and really nice evening buffet.
All was good.
Amazing view of the bridge!
