Pros +
- Very historic and interesting property. After-hours check in. Breakfast.
- A one-night stopover. The room was very large and comfortable. The owners were on hand to greet me, even though I had been delayed and the hotel only had a few guests. The breakfast was very good value for the cost.Ample courtyard parking (not secure), in a small, quiet town. No issues.
- Nice and clean hotel room. The train station is only a 15 minute walk away. Restaurants can be found close to the hotel.
Cons -
- The hotel restaurant was closed (I stayed on a Sunday), however, a couple of places were open in town, about a 15-minute walk.
- When we arrived at 19:30 in the evening the place looked empty and closed. Eventually a lady came with the key to the room. She told us that the restaurant was closed for vacation ( theirs not mine) This information was not available on Booking.com page. The reason why we chose the place was because of the possibility for what we believe was an open restaurant. But the worst part was that she didn’t care at all, she would not even point us in a direction to a open place to eat. She was very rude It was obvious that they liked the payment but they didn’t deliver any service.
- We had changed our reservation from 1 to 2 nights, but the hotel did not update this change such that we had no room when we arrived. This is of course unprofessional but can happen. What bothered us more is the reaction to this: instead of acknowledging the mistake and tackling this challenge, the staff got defensive and aggressive to us. Basically they were upset about this extra work when THEY made the mistake! We just felt really not welcome there, more like an annoyance. In the end, they did help us find another hotel nearby, so we did not end up on the street, but the way of handling was just bad. For all of that lack of professionalism, the price per night was not super cheap either. Overall, the hotel is just stuck in the past in terms of processes, handling of check-in check-out etc. it all feels like 30 years ago. The decoration itself was not our taste, but that is of course more subjective.

The building itself - I heard the oldest in Hermsdorf - is really amazing medieval, with a beautiful inner courtyard. The rooms were spacious. Breakfast was fine.
