    Pros +

    • Beautiful architecture. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Food and wine was top rate.
    • A great location, with great environment to visit the region and not far from Slovenia. A great gold as well. Restaurants and breakfast are great with lovely staff. Great wine to choose from, to taste and buy as well.
    • I liked the castle and the check in process was very easy.

    Cons -

    • Room was beautiful, but a bit run down, fridge didn’t work, no kettle, no supplies, etc. Property as a whole was very well kept though.
    • I thought that paying extra 5 for an omelet at breakfast when you pay 285 for the room is a bit excessive.
    • We always end our travels with a hotel with amazing photos, score and wonderful atmosphere. Everything, that we thought also from Castello Di Spessa. The photos in booking.com had the pool and it wasn't mentioned, that it is for extra cost - 20 EUR per person (also the kids) for 2 hours. This should be included in the suite price and normally it is. (but not here)Breakfast - a bit disappointing. I expected far better selection for this money. It was very average and modest. We have paid less for a night in North Italy (to have correct comparison) and had a barista make a fresh coffee and a chef prepare a fresh omelette. Here it would have been for extra cost... :O I had far higher expectations for the castle breakfast. We have travelled to different hotels around the world with very different budgets and with such budget per night, at least the guests have been better appreciated than here... E.g bottled water in the room would have been at minimum appreciation expected. In many other places even with lower price, there have been welcoming drinks, wine or sparkling wine :) Not saying it is a must and really I can buy my own, but just saying, that it is a bit overpriced for what you get. :)

The suite is big and clean, beautiful decor and authentic vibes. Big bed, great air conditioner, room very silent. Excellent! Beautiful views surrounding the castle. Wonderful atmosphere and stunning views.

Having to pay extra for the spa

Location of the castle, golf course nearby. It was a stunning location, green, peaceful with beautiful views. However guest service needs improvement as well as room cleaning. AC didn’t work well in the room and beds are pillows were not comfortable. It was surprising to find out that access to the pool was at extra charge per person. Not what you expect for the price you pay.

Didn’t like pillows and mattresses. AC didn’t work well and there was no personal approach from the staff. Having to pay extra for pool usage.

Every thing about this place was spectacular.Three restaurants on the property. A golf course .vineyards ,And beautiful surroundings.

    Nothing I can think of

Beautiful surroundings, with nice restaurants around. Very clean room, huge bed and friendly staff.

It’s still in the time of the castle inside in the room, so it feels quite old, outdated. Hot water system is probably the same, take ages to get hot water for the shower. Breakfast is average. Walls are very thin so as soon as you have a family with kids, you’ll heart them running and shouting around in the corridor.

The breakfast was acceptable. The location is very nice and the castle is beautiful from the outside as well as its grounds.

Our room seemed acceptable when we arrived but unfortunately, when we woke up the next morning, we had a big surprise. Since there was an extra bed in the room, it was completely covered with ants and they were everywhere, from the walls to the floor to the bathroom. It was quite discusting. We complained about this at checkout and they were nice enough to offer a bottle of their wine but said that since it had been prepaid they could not give us anything back.Furthermore, out of 3 restaurants they advertise, only one was open and the food was of very poor quality not to mention overpriced. For all these above reasons we will not go back and do not recommend this property to others.

Authentic castle surrounded by beautiful green private land - I loved the scenery outdoors and it is worth the visit. Quick check in and out. Epoque furniture and ambience. Quiet. Convenient location for trips from east to Italy. Very very good restaurant.

My room came equipped with a swarm of mosquitos. I managed to kill 5-6 leaving another few to fiest on us at night. No nets on the windows due to architecture leads to this issue. Traces of dead insects on the room walls and ceiling. Bathroom a bit worn out. Matress is average. Still, it sounds worse than it actually is - I would stay there again.

Historical restored castle were Giacomo Casanova stayed for awhile. Fascinating interior and beautiful garden where I could take a nice stroll. Breakfast was generous and had quite a lot of choices.Being far from everything and on Christmas night, with only another family staying, it was very quiet, total bliss. Also I appreciated the cuisine of the Hosteria del Castello, which is few meters away, recommended.

The property is located in the heart of the Collio, the wine hills of Friuli.Beautifully restored and landscaped. There was a problem of communication with the booking of the dinner between the castle and the restaurant. Restaurants are not owned from the same property of the castle. The castle property took in charge the situation and helped mitigating the issue. Things did not go completely as planned but over all was a nice stay in a beautiful location.

Beautiful!!!! Very large apartment and wonderful bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and plenty! Parking was right at castle.

Didn’t tell us oven didn’t work and no microwave so complete waste of food.

Magical place, beautiful castle, wonderful gardens..The food is amazing, same as vines ?Peaceful place to relax and feed your soul

No room service after 21 o clock so be sure to bring some food with you in case you’re going to be hungry. No snacks in mini bar, no coffee machine or kettle to make some tea or coffee

location. we came to celebrate my mom’s 65th birthday. the location on its own is very nice. beautiful property, enjoyed both restaurants and breakfast was good. awesome photos.

we arrived on Monday to Wednesday and stayed at the 2 bedroom apartment. First night and and early afternoon we had power outage and no lights. I tried calling reception and emailing with no response. For such a large property they only have one person that is remotely helpful, he works as their busboy, waiter, and property caretaker. My dad ended up having to walk around the property at 11pm at night and trying to find him. apparently the power switch to 3rd floor is behind a painting ;) Long story short, there’s no actual check in person that would explain where everything is around your building or apartment. The apartment had ant infestation, couldn’t leave any fruits on the table or anywhere, within minutes there would be ants. Also when we arrived, had the worst experience with check in- the lady called an hour before trying to figure out when we would arrive, because by 7pm everyone is gone. Very quickly checked us in, did not explain anything, that we did not actually pay for apartment and peaced out. I will reiterate that the front staff and front desk is awful from telling what they offer to amenities. I work in a small business, and highly recommend in retraining your staff.

The grounds and area is very beautiful. Nearby restaurant was very good despite the negative reviews on Google

Felt that check in staff did not explain the facilities available, like wine tasting and spa. The decor in the rooms was very dated and not to our taste

    9AndrejaPosted on: 2-17-2023

Lovely host at the reception Davide who took his time And put in effort to talk to us about the specifics od the region when we we’re tasting Castello wines. We had a fabulous dinner at the Tavernetta ✨
