About

Dating back to 1785, this elegant hotel in Xanten’s Main Square lies opposite Xanten Cathedral. Hotel van Bebber offers free WiFi and country-style rooms with dark-wood furnishings. Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill stayed here many times. Breakfast is served in the cozy Hubertusstube lounge with its open fireplace. Hot and cold drinks are available in the English-style lobby bar all day long. Guests can also enjoy drinks and snacks in the De Kelder Bar, located in the 400-year-old vaulted cellar. Additionally, dinner is available and consists of a 3-course menu with a choice between 2 main dishes. The rooms at the Hotel Van Bebber feature cable TV, a desk, a seating area and a private bathroom with shower, towel warmer, cosmetic mirror and complimentary toiletries. Most rooms face the quiet park, and some have a balcony. The Hotel van Bebber is just a 10-minute walk from Xanten Archaeological Park. Guests can rent bikes from the hotel for exploring the Xantener Altrhein Nature Park, just 1.9 mi away.

    Pros +

    • Very nice hotel. Comfortable and clear. Great restaurant downstairs
    • 7 minutes of walking distance to Xanten train station, the room is spacious and clean enough, the staffs are very much hospitality, and they’re offering high quality of bottled-sparkling/still water for free. I feel at home for one-night staying, and will definitely recommend you to stay with them!
    • A new owner put some fresh ideas in a few years ago. Several small lounge areas etc. are quite appealing. Room was large with good furniture.

    Cons -

    • Pillow are a little soft
    • NA
    • Lacks some of the finesse that should come with four stars. Black tea bags and cream in the room should really be a given, and in the lounges, you will rarely see any staff (most waiting staff were covering substantial parts of the day and appeared a bit lost at times). There's the humming noise (like a loud fridge) and particularly the smell from the garbage cooler, very noticeable inside rear rooms and corridors, respectively. It's apparently not reliably turned off at night, but doesn't keep up nonetheless.

Great position in a historic building.

Rooms too hot no a/c. Small rooms with limited facilities for a 4* hotel. Noisy outside Breakfast not good value. I would recommend short walk to market square instead.

Staff friendly and helpful. Very comfortable beds and pillows. Excellent breakfast. Bathroom nicely updated. Elevator.

Light switches tricky, not uniform with master switch limiting flexibility for charging and fans. Staff not current on updates to Roman Museum.

The decor was charming and rooms very spacious and comfortable. The bathtub was amazing and breakfast very tasty.

We couldn’t get a table to have dinner at their restaurant after arriving with our baby, they told us it was fully booked. Some of the staff did not speak English but they made up by being super nice.

    Very disappointing

The main function of a hotel is a place to sleep. We did not sleep. Our room was situated over the terrace, where drunken people kept shouting till midnight. After that, the noise from the disco in the cellar became progressive louder, with booming basses far into the night. The staff was incompetent. First we were given a room that had been reserved for another party. We had to move and were given a room over the kitchen with very noisy ventilation so we had to move again, and ended up in the noisy room above the terrace (see above). In the restaurant they gave us the bill for the table next to us, and were unable to retrieve data on what we had ordered. A very surly waiter then interrogated us as to what we had ordered, making it seem as though it were our fault that they didn't have their act together.

Two nights stay of which i booked seperately Water 2small bottles for day one and 2 coffee sachets When i asked for new water and coffee for the second day they said no only on arrival even if i booked a week then only on arrival No new duvet issued No new shampoo issued No fan ,no aircon Just very very poor First night was 69 € and second night i think 169 Euro Pathetic and just arrogant Never ever to return Pick that mLovely town but stay away from this hotel

Room was comfortable, clean an spacious. It has a very fancy Italian restaurant with a superb menu. Besides, the staff is so kind. I would definitively repeat next time will be in the area.

Some of the staff spoke a bit of Dutch or English but they were all friendly. It is possible to park next to the hotel. Nicely decorated and great location.

The bar was closed on Sunday evening, so we couldn't go there unfortunately and we had to have a drink in the lounge. The room was really big but the shower was small.

This is a really beautiful hotel in a perfect location for exploring the town. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was super comfortable. We didn’t have breakfast but we did have a superb evening meal in the hotel’s onsite restaurant. Thank you to everyone for such a lovely stay.

The room was spacious and very elegant, big nice bed. Super location and the guy at the reception was cute and very pleasant.

    9TimPosted on: 8-6-2023

The hotel is centrally located, 200m walk to the main square and the staff were most welcoming. To the rear of the hotel is a private car park, allowing easy access to the hotel, which was ideal. The breakfast was comprehensive and our room was large, with a very comfortable bed. Would recommend.

    We enjoyed our stay….

I came by bike and at the reception lady was vey helpful and had an efficient idea how to make my life easier with organizing my stuffs and the bike upon arrival. The staff was always very helpful and kind during my 2 nights stay. The bed was comfortable. I slept very well. I could lock my bike in the back side of parking area and when it was raining, I could also put my bike to a closed safe place. I really appreciated it.

The staff were great (thanks Emma).Room was spacious, with great shower and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Was able to securely park my bike on the underground parking area. Close walk to Netto supermarket (in either direction). Was right on the Eurovelo 15 / Rheinradweg route.

The room I had was next to the main road, so noisy during the day if windows open (although quiet if closed). They could also have some sheer curtains to go with the blackout curtains for more privacy.

    Old building with large room.

Room overlooked car park but this helped it to be quiet.

Historical, elegant hotel in Central part of town. Quiet and the front desk clerk was amazing! Friendly, helpful. Advised me on things to see and do while room was being cleaned. I arrived early. Safe place for my bike.
