Flecker Hotel

Modern hotel located in historical wooden building. All the furnishings were high quality, unlike most places. Good communication with hosts, despite the hotel being self-service. There are no staff on site. Check-in is done online and key retrieval done at the hotel before entering. Very modern. Room was quiet, romantic and comfortable. Breakfast was better than thought, considering no one is there. Recommend staying here for at least 1 night even though the town is small.

Could have water glasses in the room instead of having to go downstairs to kitchen.

Seems like it's newly refurbished. Lots of character and charm right among the 'black and white houses of Freudenberg'. Cozy and well organized breakfast kitchen. Unstaffed during check-in, but convenient self check-in.

No parking right at the hotel, but a bit further away. But that is a trade-off I guess, if you want to stay right in the center.

Easy and fast check in. Spacious and clean room. Luxurious bedding. Equipped kitchen so also good for a longer stay.

No parking space closeby or hard to find.

Superb

We were forced to pay twice for the stay: once via Booking site during making the reservation and then on arrival to get the key from the check-in machine, were the use of card was supposed to be cashless. Week has passed and neither the Flecker Hotel nor the Booking have responded to our complains about the situation.

We used the free Public Parking which is a 5 minute walk away at 50.89724, 7.87082The apartment hotel is new and has been beautifully renovated. There is a small shared kitchen/seating area on the ground floor (probably where the Coffee House used to be) with a snack vending and coffee machine (both requiring payment). We booked a studio and were given the ‘Nelson’ room on the first floor which had a small open plan kitchenette, dining and seating area. Oddly there was a coffee machine in the kitchen but no coffee provided. The room décor was light and modern with an airy feeling.

There is no reception at this apartment hotel and access is self-service using a machine attached to the front of the building. These set ups whilst good in theory, are in reality are prone to issues. We selected English and followed the instructions on the machine. The machine asked for a ‘deposit payment’ of EUR 160 and instructed payment by credit card. All major cards were shown as being accepted. We tried American Express but got a message saying ‘System Error’. We then tried Mastercard and got the same error. At this point we had to call the phone number on the machine. The agent supposedly spoke English but we had to speak very slowly. Half way through explaining the problem he hung up on us!! We called again. The second agent’s English was not really sufficient to assist either without us using very basic English. He didn’t know what the error meant and seemed to be reading through a checklist. During the call, we wondered whether the problem might relate to us using UK credit cards. Fortunately, we have a Visa card on a French EUR account. We tried that card and it worked. We tried to explain to the agent that the machine did not accept non-EUR credit cards but he didn’t seem to understand.

Everything was perfect. Easy check-in and check-out, very clean, great location.

Breakfast option would be nice since there are very few/limited options for breakfast in town.
