Easy private parking, an for Como. They had a basic Italian breakfast. Great area off the beaten path. Staff was easy to communicate. Tiny, tiny elevator only went to third floor had to walk to fourth floor that had the look and feel of a loft.

Top Tips
- Reserve a lake-view hotel room at least 3 months before arrival to maximize room choice and value. Rates for July and August typically rise 20-30% closer to travel dates.
- When using a foreign debit or credit card in Como shops and hotels, decline Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) and choose EUR at the payment terminal. This avoids 2-5% extra in fees.
- Hotels within 500 meters of Como’s Duomo offer a 5-15 minute walk to major attractions and reduce pickpocket risk. Staying central provides easier access and greater safety, especially near the ferry terminals.
- Request hotel Wi-Fi speeds of at least 50-100 Mbps for video calls or remote work. Some historic hotels and B&Bs may offer slower connections in guest rooms; confirm with reception if bandwidth matters for your stay.
- To ensure accessibility, verify step-free or elevator access before booking. About 20% of rooms in historic Como hotels have elevator service, and many villas have internal stairs.
- Bring a reusable water bottle to use Como’s public fountains, such as Fontana Volta. Tap water is potable, which helps reduce plastic waste and saves on bottled water costs.
- Expect a 'tassa di soggiorno' tourist tax of €1-€4 (approx. $15-$15) per guest, collected at checkout in Como. Confirm the rate with your hotel, as it varies by star rating and season.
- Withdraw cash from bank ATMs located inside branches near Piazza Cavour or Stazione for better security. Non-EU cardholders usually pay €2-€4 (approx. $15-$15) per withdrawal.
- If driving, reserve hotel parking in advance. Private onsite parking typically costs €15-€35 per night (approx. $15-$30) and may be limited for central or historic properties.
- Use Navigazione Laghi ferries for convenient travel between Como, Bellagio, and Varenna. Core routes run more frequently in high season; always check schedules before day trips, especially off-peak.
- Choose train and regional rail from Milan Malpensa to Como for reliable transfers in 75-90 minutes at €10-€20 (approx. $15-$22 USD). Taxis on this route usually cost €90-€120 (approx. $98-$130 USD).
- Italian restaurants in Como often add a 'coperto' of €1-€3 (approx. $15-$15) per person to bills. Review your receipt before tipping, as a 'servizio' (service charge) may also appear.
