    Pros +

    • good breakfast. quiet and peaceful. enjoyed staying there every time. Bed comfortable. attention to detail, Personal welcoming note and departure letter makes it special. Apple and rusks/biscotti in room with tea and coffee.
    • Food was excellent - both dinner and breakfast, lovely setting and secure parking .The bed was one of the most comfy I have slept in - ever! The concept of the hotel - with little shops facing the street and the hotel at the other end was a very nice idea - hope they do well .Our bonus was "pet-friendly" - lovely gardens for the dogs to run around.
    • The hotel is spotless and beautifully decorated. The staff is happy to serve..

    Cons -

    • Please needed a mirror close to a plug point in the room (18) to blow dry hair
    • I booked a Superior Double room and the Deluxe twin room on the booking.com app. (Fri 31 Jan - Sat 1 Feb)When we arrived at the property the lady at the reception told us the booking hadn't reflected on their system and insisted we book directly with the property. We opposed to this as the price would drastically change. The property would charge R1800 for each room (R3600) total vs the discount I got on booking.com (R2539.80 total). I questioned how that was the case as I received a message from the property on the booking app confirming that my booking request had been approved. The lady at the reception stated the owner probably sent the confirmation however she wasn't on the property at the time due to a family emergency. After saying we'd go somewhere else, the booking magically appeared on their system and they were able to accommodate us for the rooms we booked. We asked to pay and were told we'd pay when checking out. However, during the entire stay the staff had a nasty attitude towards us (except our waiters and the lady who showed us to our rooms).Upon checking out we were charged R3600 which we believed included our dinner from the night before (The total came up to R785. We realised we'd been overcharged however we were already frustrated with our experience and we let it slide. We requested the invoice, which was emailed to me via booking.com. It included the property's price of the rooms and our dinner bill.However. on Monday the 3rd of Feb, The property contacted me directly through phone calls and an SMS saying we have incidentals that have not been paid for with their banking details attached. We called them immediately and the lady on the phone stated that the prices for the rooms are R1800 and they haven't been able to send me the invoice as they don't have my email address (which they'd already done through the booking app).In the end, the issue was resolved.
    • Wifi was a bit fiddly but very minor issue

The property is beautiful and well maintained. The food is pretty good too.

Wifi was a bit fiddly but very minor issue

Amazing to find a country hotel of this standard in a very small rural Eastern Cape town. It is very tastefully furnished with period furniture, comfortable chairs and beds and modern bathrooms. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is secure offroad parking and wifi.

Location was ideal for visiting open gardens and easily accessible. Very relaxed atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. Several different places to eat/drink offered

Staff Slightly noisy early morning when arriving for work and in kitchen.

Nice atmosphere. The staff were very friendly.

When I arrived, I was informed that dinner at the hotel was compulsory. I cannot find any reference to this in the conditions; in fact it is stated that there is no meal option with this booking. It happened that I planned to eat there, but this rule effectively sets the accommodation condition as dinner and bed and compels me to pay more than the quoted price. This is not acceptable practice.

The place was lovely for a farmstyle accommodation. The staff was great and helpful

I booked a room with a double bed, but they gave me one with 2 single beds. My booking included breakfast, but had to pay for coffee. There's no microvawe or bar fridge in the room. Checking out was a hassle because there was a mix up with my payment which I made a week prior to our arrival.

This is a gorgeous boutique hotel and it is decorated beautifully! Each room is completely unique, mixing old and new. The food was INCREDIBLE! The staff very friendly.

water pressure in the bathroom was a bit feeble, but it is an old little town, and the hotel was full - so perhaps that had something to do with it

    Bad

The booking was never confirmed by booking.com. when I called the hotel, they had no accommodation available ?

    8SaschaPosted on: 5-15-2024

    Food was really nice

The fact that the owners are NOT sharing tipps. We have been told that they wont get it because of discrepancies of stock at the end of the month, which is utter rubbish. I waited tables and worked in bars, Tipps are ESSENTIAL and should NEVER be withhold by the owners

Great gem in the beautiful little town of Bedford. In house restaurant, lovely baked goods at the Cafe, very kind staff and management. Private enclosed parking.

Breakfast could be improved. Some small issues were immediately addressed by management.

    6GrantPosted on: 2-8-2024

    The old world charm.

The room was not cleaned properly. Items were out of stock such as coffee pods. Food was cold when presented to us. Seemed over staffed and they had a lack of direction. It felt that there was no strong manager in charge. It was a disappointing stay.

    8BraamPosted on: 1-9-2024

    Clean, spacious and friendly staff.

Breakfast service was a little slow.

    5CraigPosted on: 12-31-2023

Breakfast was fair, eggs not poached to request (hard instead of soft)

Bed uncomfortable, bed well worn, bed sloped - needs replacing. Bedroom windows faced passage so no privacy, no option to open windows have fresh air.Staff could do with training, some staff really tried however training seems lacking. Guests should be well received and have everything explained upon arrival, wifi code should be ready and handed to guest on arrival, facilities available should be explained upfront, the breakfast set up / choice should also be explained upfront, etc....

    8TraceyPosted on: 12-16-2023

Comfortable and staff friendly and helpful.

Room booked was not the room given - being on that side of the hotel was noisy

    7XwayiPosted on: 9-3-2023

Some of the best food I've ever tasted.

The menu was limited. No phones in the rooms. The service is average, you have to keep reminding the staff to prepare your food if you ordered the previous day. The handover from evening to morning staff has to improve. No fridge in the room.

The water pressure in the shower was a bit low. No mini bar or hair dryer either.
