Pros +
- The hotel is very comfortable, very clean and very well maintained, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The staff are incredibly helpful and delightful - I felt very welcome and completely at home. The location is very, very tranquil too with many hikes possible into the adjacent regional park (Sierra Espuña) which is extremely beautiful. There are several small terraces at different levels at the rear of the hotel, some particularly small and cozy and well-shaded with overhanging fig trees. I didn't try the restaurant but the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. There is a decent-sized town (Alhama de Murcia) about 15km away which has a good selection of shops and services.
- Good location, and the hotel was well maintained. Breakfast was very good.
- The location was peacefulStaff very helpful
Cons -
- Honestly, nothing. I found the hotel almost by chance - I made my booking based on its convenient location along the route I was taking to Andalucia and the fact that it welcomes dogs (I'm travelling with my faithful lab). So it was something of a surprise to find such a nice hotel in such a splendid location. In fact, I liked the hotel so much I booked another stay on my return home a few days later.
- We thought the hotel cost and the evening meal was expensive. The hotel and evening meak were nice, but not exceptional in our opinion. The tea and coffee making facilities were under the stairs in a common area, not in your room. The room was comfortable, but you would expect something special for the amount charged. We paid extra or a suit. There weren't even bathrobes or tv, so very basic. The hotel information stated the room had a bath, and there wasn't. The shower was very good.
- Booked a junior suite however was really just a room with a balcony

The breakfast was different but ample, no cooked food but interesting. The evening meal was what, in my opinion, let the hotel down. The meals themselves were interesting but took nouvelle cuisine to a whole new level ! the portions were tiny and, at 35 Euros per head, outrageous !The overall atmosphere was exceptionally welcoming but small things let it down. There was a kettle and fridge BUT both had to be shared....unnecessary and unwelcome if you had to get dressed for either. Probably needs to advertised to the more active and younger traveller but nevertheless, a marvellous get away from it all location helped by a very friendly staff
As above, the dinner let the whole place down considerably especially the price. I have some considerable experience at costings and the cost rarely exceeded 10% of the price.
Bajo El Cejo is absolutely fantastic. We were on a Spanish road trip and wanted to experience the real Spain away from the big cities and tourists and El Berro was perfect. Our accommodation was beautiful, the restaurant food was incredible both at the hotel and in the village. The staff were fantastic - lovely people.
Everything was perfect
It was a beautiful location with a local authentic feel. We only stayed for 1 night on our way to Valencia and wanted to stay in a rural village before the big city.
The untrodden path leads to amazing places, but be prepared for the road up to the hotel.
The staff were outstanding - very friendly and effective. The breakfast was excellent, and we ate in the restaurant both evenings as little else was available locally. We found the taster menus offered were some of the best food we have enjoyed in Spain.
The wifi signal was quite weak in our room, probably because of the heavy stone walls. More signal points would have helped.
The breakfasts are exceptional - each day the guests have an individually prepared breakfast to suit your needs - it is not a buffet where you see waste being either trashed or greedily taken by others. You are served whatever you like in the grounds of the property by polite and very pleasant staff. The staff are delightful and very keen to offer you an experience staying there that is almost like you share their beautiful property and eat with them if you like at night. The food prepared for us was stunning with great care to ensure that your healthy options are served. Locally produced bread, organically grown vegetable from their garden, olive oil from the local olive trees in the village and wine from the local Murcia region - I can quite safely say that should you stay here you will not be disappointed - this is not a place to bring children as most kids would prefer a buffet style breakfast and meal but a place to come for a romantic and holistic break in the beautiful surrounding mountains
Nothing - The whole experience was superb from the moment we arrived
First up, the staff are all INCREDIBLE! So nice and welcoming, so helpful and attentive. Helena who is front of house and Francessca who is the chef are just so lovely. But actually everyone was. Secondly, the view, the vibe, the setting, the surrounds - so relaxing and calming. The best place if you want to switch off, get closer to nature and feel a sense of freedom and tranquility.Lastly, the food (all local produce, fresh ingredients, healthy) made by Francesca was so delicious. every course was unique and tasty, my wife who is vegan was well catered for, they adapted to our needs, and Helena gave great wine pairing advice. We had the BEST time, swimming, sunbathing, hiking in the hills and wandering in the valleys, eating and staring at the exceptional vista. Highly recommend!
not much to say here. Maybe a few more sun loungers by the pool would be good, but even then we were allowed to rearrange the furniture a bit so that everyone had one!
It was quite scary to get there along the serpentine road, but the road was new and impeccable. Moreover, we were leaving in a different direction, and there the road was also new at first, and then turned into the usual one, such as happens outside the city. The hotel is very unusual, located on a mountainside with views of the surrounding mountains. Lovers and relaxed people should come here. The food was wonderful, especially the local fruit. The staff is very friendly. Recommended for those who are tired of the hustle and bustle and just want to plunge into another life for a few days. I would say that Buddha lives there :)
This hotel is not for everyone. And if your comfort means soft carpets and waiters with a tray at the ready, then this is not the place for you. I was a hippie when I was young and I loved everything ;)
Staff service
The access to the hotel is dreadful. The directions confusing and there is no way a sat nav will find it. The road surface is very bumpy and any sports car could not get there. The hotel should improve the signage.
The location, while remote, is a beautiful setting, so peaceful. The staff are wonderful and the food is over the top.
It was a long way off the A7 through a lot of country roads.
Beautiful location. Amazing views. Very quiet and relaxing. So very clean. It had everything you would want for your stay. I would highly recommend the breakfast and 5 course dinner.
There was nothing that I didn’t like.
fabulous breakfast, extremely comfortable beds
Just one thing, we thought balcony would be bigger
It’s simple comfortable style and eco responsible ethics and the fact that they use as much local food as possible and make their own jams and cheese and yogurt..
panoramic views, terrace in front of the hotel, pool and surrounding area with sun beds, sauna and tepidarium zone, outdoor breakfast, access to hiking routes from the hotel, tranquillity . Strongly recommend the evening dining experience: outstanding menu’, ingredients, service and wine recommendations. by the way good quality beds….
due to special location , reaching hotel with navigator can be tricky. Advice: pay particular attention to hotel sign posting.
This place is so beautiful, peaceful, the perfect place to relax and take in the scenery. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. The standard of food and wine served is excellent.
Garden and terrace eating area.
This is a wonderful, comfortable hotel, in a lovely part of Spain. The attention to detail in every respect is excellent, the hotel is spotless in every area. As for the dining experience, don't miss it. Delicious food an excellent wine list and great service, with a chef who's proud and confident enough to leave the kitchen and talk to customers in the dining room.
We had a great welcome from Angela who made us feel incredibly at home. The views were idyllic and all the food was of local provenance and absolutely delicious. Breakfast on the terrace was a highlight especially as the sun was beating down in early March
Access was a little steep to the premises
Location with spectacular views. Exciting drive up to the village. Welcoming staff who made us feel they wanted guests.
