Sodwana Bay Lodge Dive & Fishing Resort

The stay was comfortable and the location is excellent. A big plus is Adventure Mania inside the lodge, with a dedicated pool, which makes it very convenient for Discover Scuba Dives. Sodwana Bay is an ideal destination for scuba divers, and the lodge is very close to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park gate for Sodwana Bay Beach.

Breakfast was good. Chalet with nice balcony looking out on bushes. Good security

Basin had a large crack in it which was dirty but did not leak. Light and kettle lid also broken.

Everything you need at the resort and close to the beach.

There were no cushions on the sunbeds by the pool, that was not that comfortable.

Lots of shade. Good restaurant. Nice spacious apartment. Super friendly staff.

The gas braaier was not working 100%, only 2 burners functional, and very rusty.

Maintenance on the Hotel rooms is not done to the level I would expect from a hotel. Broken toilet seats replaced with the cheapest plastic seat they could possibly find, tiles in the shower were loose, lacking a lick of paint here and there. It’s a great place but gives you the feeling it’s in desperate need of a proper revamp.

Close to the national park

We had the hotel room (cottage) L17, which has the generator for the whole complex in front of the door (true for L14-L19). The rain on the second day caused an outage of electricity so that the generator was running basically the whole night (it sounded like a lorry standing in front of the door) so we have not slept. At check in we were not made aware of this potential issue and my complaint was noted and promised to be brought forward to management, nothing happened ( I was asking for a refund of the second night). I’m sorry to say but the price is not in relation to what you get. The facilities of the whole accommodation is out dated including restaurant/bar. The pool smells intensively of chlorine so that we didn’t dare to go in. The front door of the cottage was not isolated against noise ( big gaps) etc. Basically a disappointment.

I booked 2 rooms a hotel room and a chaletThe chalet has no aircon, based in such a location where the humidity is so high a basic such as an aircon is a essential, Also the chalet has no tap mixers.Overall disappointment with the amenities

The WiFi was frustrating, I needed to do some work and paid for it, even driving far to draw cash as they only accept cash (crazy) but the WiFi was extremely unreliable and down for half a day.Note it is still a 4 drive to the beach, and entrance must be paid each time, there were large queues for this.

Management was not friendly. Esp when dealing with outages on the accommodation’s end. Pool was filthy and green. On site restaurant is slow and food is better in most places in town.

Aircon

Awful food - so so terrible. Intermittent hot water. Leaking toilet. Broken plugs. Uninterested staff. No free wifi and then paid wifi only available in the room - nowhere else on the property. Generally an unhappy place with grumpy staff and guests

Food, beautiful rooms and friendly staff

This is a very well established lodge and everything worked well for us - is well maintained and owners are clearly committed to keeping it going at a high standard. Very friendly staff. It is quite 'down to earth' and does not try to impress with the more gimmicky approaches some places go for. We enjoyed watching the buck and the families of monkeys playing in the grass areas.

There is nothing to not like here in our view.

The hotel offers free breakfast, has a pool and the chalets have a balcony.

Restaurant had nice staff , but food was average. Nobody to help with luggage ?. No place in the room to place the luggage open. Bathroom had no space to place a toiletries bag.

Tranquille and peaceful area, not over processed . The property is great with nice size chalets. Really enjoyed our stay.

Service from staff was not great at times, especially at the restaurant in the morning as they were quite understaffed some of the mornings

The area is a bit like a garden with kudus and monkeys. It is not far from the beach and felt very safe. The staff was kind.

The facilities are outdated. My chalet smelled a bit and was a bit dark inside. The breakfast options were limited, where only the egg was made freshly. The restaurant is a bit expensive considering the quality of food. Lastly, you need to take your car to get to the beach and pay the park fees. Thus, there is no point for staying in Sodwana or 30 km away, except you bring your boat.

Pool was very green for a couple of days.Shower was a bit temperamental.
