- The breakfast was sumptuous and settings beautiful
- It is a one-hour drive from Johannesburg—a perfect weekend getaway. The room is spacious and well-appointed. The garden is beautiful, and the internet is good. The fine dining dinner was superb, and the breakfast was very satisfying.
- It's quite classy and the food is great. The place is located in a tranquil environment far from the noise.
Cons -
- Both gown were several frayed. That was disappointing for the establishment of that rating.
- Please check the electrical in NQ3 - it tripped a couple of times during our short stay. The government roads need resurfacing.
- Booking.com room selection is misleading. Thankfully, the establishment contacted me, and the issue was resolved.

It was good and fresh.
I was told that my accommodation was not paid by booking.com, when I checked out, was kept waiting for almost 20min while the lady kept on checking. Eventually she confirmed it’s paid, on my way home, I received almost 10 missed calls from the hotel, telling me the card payment had declined. My birthday weekend was absolutely ruined by Dehoek, only to confirm later in the afternoon that they did receive full payment and apologise for the error after I had sent them confirmation emails from bookings.com and proof of payment.
Gardening
Old room where my son slept Poor service We checked out on Christmas Day because there was no water in our room
the Hotel and the Garden (Park)
Bad price-performance ratio for a 5-star accommodation. The management and staff, with the exception of the Chamber Maid and the Gatekeeper, are not very friendly and not very motivated. Even simple requests are ignored. Very long waiting times at breakfast and dinner.
The property itself is in a really lovely location with lots of trees and nature. The rooms are functional and the newer wing has modern deluxe suites.
The service, food and level of professionalism was definitely not 5 star at all. We arrived and the reception was empty with the door closed (it was a lovely day). We had to walk around for a while to find anybody to help us. Then I was told I needed to pay for the room which I had already paid through booking.com. It was not a great start.I booked massages and again there was nobody in the waiting area so our massage was interrupted by other guests hollering for attention. Extremely unprofessional and certainly not the service I get in Jhb for a fraction of the cost.I ordered lamb chops for dinner that were smothered in gravy over uncooked and unbrowned fat. The food was cold and definitely not worth the price paid for a simple 3 course set meal and a bottle of wine. I find it unacceptable that people can be charged that price when there are so many other 5 star establishments that are truly 5 star. In addition, there was nobody around to wait the only two tables in the entire restaurant. We had to pour our own wine, water etc and wait for extended periods of time for simple requests like a fish knife to have with the fish and a steak knife for chops. Breakfast was a similar experience. Nobody around to wait tables, omelette came without toast that had been ordered and which was cold by the time the toast arrived with frozen butter. In addition, and of no fault of the establishment, there was a veld fire that broke out during the afternoon. It was absolute chaos with staff screaming and running with buckets to try and stop the fire. Nobody communicated with us and merely left us to our own devices. There was no proper safety management or management around! All in all a really dismal experience for what was meant to be a relaxing night away.
The breakfast was delicious, correct portion size, All fresh ingredientsAll staff exceptionally friendly from the front desk to the waiters to the cleaning staff.Home from home, and so close to Johannesburg
No generator noise, but understandably a fire interfered with their main electricity line in. At least we had electricity the whole time we were there.
Goodness excellent, only if they can improve on maintenance of facilities and balcony cleanliness.
Just to ensure that rooms are checked as the shower was broken. The bar staff must be fully aware of their stock items as I was made to opt for a choice I did not like at an additional cost of R300; whilst what I prefer was reported to be out of stock only to discover a day after that it is in stock.
Beautifully open property along the river with space to walk within the extensive grounds. We had a lovely room and especially enjoyed the underfloor heating in the spacious bathroom. We were very pleasant surprise by the "gourmet" fish and chips we got through room service which was excellent. We found the staff we met on the property to be friendly and engaging, enhancing our enjoyment of our short break. We really enjoyed our dinner as well; the broccoli in particular was exquisite. The twin fireplaces in the lounge were extremely effective and made the lounge a very pleasant venue for relaxation in the nippy late winter evening.
Our impression is that the focus is more on corporate events rather than "retail" accommodation and couples on their own may find it a bit empty, at least off-season. I think the pricing is a bit on the high side and that includes all meals and drinks particularly because there are a number of reasonably similar alternatives nearby.
Good dayWe stayed at the property on Saturday. The room was excellent, but the service and the standard of food were shocking. I booked through booking.com. I have booked multiple times through booking.com for many establishments, and the process has always been to pay on arrival. Your receptionist took it upon herself to request payment before our arrival, causing my payment to decline and incurring unnecessary charges on my side and further embarrassing me in front of my partner. I have experienced fraud on my account/card multiple times. Hence, I have to authorize payment. No communication or mention was made that I would need to make prior payment. I would have been happy to make payment prior if it had been communicated.Your staff are friendly but untrained and have little to no knowledge of what you offer or your services. We decided to have drinks at the bar before dinner. Your drinks menu is limited, and you do not offer cocktails. I received little to no assistance on what could be made for me. And I was told to get up and go to the bar because both gentlemen working in the bar area had no clue about what you had in stock ,which was even more shocking because your alcohol options to make up a cocktail are so limited. I then explained to the barman what combination he could do for a cocktail.Dinner was appalling. We requested a wine menu which took forever to arrive as you only have one wine menu for all guests. The bread box/basket was bizarre. Clearly bought in commercial sour dough bread, bland meatballs , shortbread biscuits, and lurpak butter still in its original packaging. Starters: Duck carpaccio with a homemade store bought Sriracha, blueberries, and kewpie mayo, completely different from what was indicated on the menu. My mind is completely blown at this combination and the sheer lack of skill or knowledge used to execute this poor menu. This was served on lettuce, which also blew me away.

Great location, wonderful staff and the food was excellent
This is a beautiful property but very much a conference or wedding venue so rather large and not really the country hotel we were looking for.
It was stunningly beautiful and well maintained
I was first given a lousy room upstairs from the dining room area. Fortunately my room was upgraded to one that matched the price I paid
The food was excellent. The room & the environment were exceptional
At the spa, I expected to be served with water or tea or juice, but we were served with nothing
Beautiful location, wonderful privacy, exquisite decor in the room, comfort of the room, friendliness of the staff
The picnic we ordered was exceptional and the attention to detail was excellent. Were able to cater for my wife's vegetarian request at short notice. Highly recommend the picnic! Food overall was very good.
The shower head didn't fit properly and sprayed water all over the bathroom. The bath water (hot) was dirty and needed flushing before we could use it. The main door's internal safety latch was broken. Small items but one expects more from a 5 star establishment.
Beautiful buildings, classic furnishings, welcoming ambience, serene atmosphere, lush green gardens, clean and spacious rooms,
No help to carry luggage from parking area
The staff are superb. They make up for anything a guest might not be comfortable with. The fine dining is delicious and the various flavours within the meals super.
The rooms need to be checked before the guest arrive to ensure everything is in working order.
Breakfast was great and Vusi made it more special. His attentiveness and friendliness was appreciated.
Check in could be improved. On our arrival there was no one to direct us or check us in, we wondered for about 5min before we got help.
beautiful room , beautiful gardens , excellent food
there was a wedding at the hotel on Saturday evening. we enjoyed the music , but if one was there for relaxation and rest , the loud music would not be suitable
