    • Just about an hour and a half away from Johannesburg, we had a wonderful stay at Out of Africa. My Wife and I visited this lodge for our 5 year anniversary. If you book in advance, you can enjoy a fine dining experience on a Rovos Rail train carriage that's on the property. The hosts Monique and Ludger went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Would recommend this lodge if you want to escape the busy city life for a nice and relaxing holiday.
    • We enjoyed the feel of freedom and relaxation that out in africa gave us, the decoration and treatment from the owners made us feel like we are on a safari in the 1900's with the best experience one could ask for.The food took us out of our own country on a trip into a new world, the dinner, dress up and sitting down gives you the escape of modern day stress and the invitation to luxury everyone must experience.
    • Huge mistake in choosing

    Cons -

    • No complaints
    • Any food or drink brought onto property “confiscated “ No water to drink in tent , no facility to make tea ir coffee or hot water , room very cold at night , hard to keep blankets on bed , nothing to look at on balcony bo chance of animals coming close
    • We would like to have access to our Vehicle, but it is not a problem to get a lift when needed.

The experience was unique and enjoyable. We appreciated the beautiful setting and arrangements, which improved our overall experience. The main lodge area is stunning, with an incredible Rovos Rail carriage serving as a restaurant and a unique and interesting lounge and bar area. The tents are well-decorated and very comfortable. Patrons must remember the theme of a bush camp set over 100 years ago, so there is no electricity in the tents, and everything is via candles and solar - but it makes for a fantastic setting. The hosts are incredible, and we enjoyed our 5-course meal at the Injabulo Restaurant, where our hosts explained each dish in detail.

We would like to have access to our Vehicle, but it is not a problem to get a lift when needed.

    Liked it all

What an memorable experience and loved everything from waking up with the sounds of the bush in your ears, decor, comforts and the fine dinning food was excellent ?

A plug, for a hairdryer, would be WONDERFUL in the tent

I love the idea of the Out in Africa theme. The owners Ludger and Monique were very accommodating and excellent hosts. The food was fantastic!

I feel that although it is an "Out in Africa" experience to be driven from the car park to the main venue is great, I would have preferred to be able to park my car closer to where I was staying and to have the freedom to come and go as I wished without having to arrange a lift to and from the car park by the owner. The tents are well kitted out but with breakfast being served at 9 it would be nice to have coffee and tea facility in the tents for that first cuppa when you wake up. If a flask of hot water and some fresh milk were delivered to the tent at around 7 with some cups and spoons that would be fantastic. I feel that the fact that there is no electricity in the tents should be more clearly stated so that visitors can be more prepared. The rooms are also not serviced.

Incredible setting with an “Old age Safari” scene, the old Rovos Rail carriage used for hosting dinners is spectacular and the service there is second to none.

Could do with a tin “cattle style” pool later on, the property is very well maintained and fenced off so no worries about visits from the lion you can head at night.

So quiet and peaceful with amazing food and stunning views

Sadly we won’t be back. Dinokeng is wonderful but there are much better lodges to enjoy.

No electricity in the tents although they are really great. People would like to have fans in extreme conditions and also have a facility to make a cup of coffee in the morning and soak up the wild. Had to wait until breakfast at 9am to do this. Dinner Menu is decided for you and you don’t get a choice at the price charged you would want to be able to select something that you would enjoy. No choice also meant there are some meals that might not suit everyone. I would suggest sticking to a South African theme, a reason why people come to holiday here. European cuisine was absolutely terrible.

From the time that Monique picked us up at the parking area everything was just perfect. The decor is amazing and perfectly set up to enjoy nature to the fullest. The rooms are comfortable and very private. Dinner in the train was amazing, fancy and we enjoyed the conversations with Monique and Ludger about food and the environment which they both have a passion for. The food itself was amazing and we received great service. The outdoor shower at the unit was very enjoyable.

Lovely remote quiet and utterly amazing food. Beautiful deco, a very special experience. Lovely hosts. Altogether wonderful adventure. Candles in the tent really romantic. The silence and privacy is out of this world. Smelling and hearing the beautiful Zebras very close to the tent. Wow!

Only a tip I would place a power bank in each tent to be able to charge phones without having to go to the restaurant.

Loved the great food, especially the five course dinner in the Rovos Rail carriage! Beautiful surroundings and awesome hospitality. Highly recommended.

All meals were exceptional.Dining in an old Rovos rail eating salon is out of this world.Individual interaction with the owners/management was uplifting.

For us, nothing, exactly the breakaway that we were looking for.

The location was superb, deep in the heart of the bush. The accommodation was unique, impeccable and super stylish.Outdoor shower was an amazing experience.Food was outstanding, compliments to the chef.

A fan and a plunge pool would be a welcome addition. The ability to enjoy the delicious food and drinks on the accommodation veranda would allow guests to spend more quality time at the gorgeous accommodation in privacy.

Great hosts who took care of us so nicely.Small lodge, quiet and peaceful.Great food.Could observe cheetahs and girafe from our tent’s deck ?Nice ambiance inspired by the film « Out of Africa ».

If you're looking for exclusivity, tranquility, privacy, and a culinary journey in a big 5 game reserve, look no further. Monique & Ludgar are fantastic hosts and will ensure you're well looked after during your stay. The sizeable luxury tent is decorated to take you back to a different era. The bed is extremely comfortable, and who doesn't like an outdoor shower in the bush. The food was outstanding. Can highly recommend Out in Africa Wildlife lodge for anyone who is looking for a unique, private, and luxury break away to the bush.

Location is very private and intimate. Gives you that lost (in a good way) feeling. Restaurant excellent as the host is a chef. Service is high touch and top notch.

    Nothing - it was great.

The hosts Monique and Ludgar were extremely gracious and friendly. The decor was superb and transported you back to the 1920s. The beds were comfortable and the setting quiet. The included breakfast was superb. The highlight was our dinner in the train restaurant with tasty European cuisine and a great wine list.

    10KarlPosted on: 5-23-2023

authentic African experience with traditional finishes and fittings that transport you back to a different period. The tented accommodation was tranquil and away from the restaurant and allowed for privacy. Food was excellent and the menu Country specific and authentic. The sounds of the wild and the clear starry night were amazing for a place only 80 minutes from Johannesburg

need to shower late afternoon or risk cold water
