    Pros +

    • The rooms were sizable and the beds were super comfortable. Breakfast buffet was exceptional and other meals were great.
    • Awesome family get away. Lots of things for kids to do as well as adults. The staff were accomdating and friendly. Will definitely be back.
    • The room was large and comfortable with an amazing walk in shower. There was so much to do there especially if you come as a family. The staff were friendly and always on hand for whatever you needed. The breakfast was very tasty and had lots of options to choose from. Even though the place was busy it never felt crowded or excessively noisy. Would stay here again anytime.

    Cons -

    • The games room is in some serious need of attention.
    • I think the food could have been better
    • We paid R2.5k per night to stay in a room in the far corner of the hotel in front of the dumping site for the hotel. No mountain views, room in a very poor state and dirty in multiple places. At this price and what we were offered I would not be staying here again. It's such a pity as the hotel has great potential but it's clear it's all about numbers for them as they don't rely on repeat business but transient travellers due to the location of the hotel. Very dissapointed

We enjoyed the location, the staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a great time wathcing the rugby in the stage coach bar.

    The food was excellent

The room 48 was stuffy. It did not smell fresh and stayed like that all the time.

    7LombardPosted on: 9-1-2025

Friendly, warm homely vibe - very casual but efficient

Maybe queen size duvet instead of double duvet on bed and some loose rugs on floor around bed, very cold especially winter months.

The children’s playground and the breakfast were enjoyable.

The rooms felt quite gloomy, and the lighting was inadequate. Some beds were equipped with heaters while others were not. Additionally, some of the towels were not thoroughly clean.

Sruggled to find our way to the Spa. No signage.

My husband and I decided on some alone time. Road trip to your destination was fun, chatted laughed and listened to music. The staff was very professional, friendly and we felt instantly at home. Our room was clean, loved the linen, very good quality crisp and white. The area and the aur was so clean and fresh total revitilation. Thank you

The breakfast had a variety of halaal foods which was excellentRoom service was great as our food was delivered warm

The only thing that we would love Houw Hoek to implement is to put water taps at the toilets ( Iestienjaa taps )Houw Hoek gets a lot of muslim visitors this would be excellent as most hotels have implemented this for their visitors, please note it is not only muslims that use it a lot of the public use it for hygiene purposes.

It's the perfect place for a homey feeling holiday break. Dinnertime was a pleasant gathering of noise & and laughter, and yet the breaktaking views would calm any weary traveller. It's no wonder it's the oldest licensed hotel in South Africa...1779 and still going strong!

The food portions could be smaller ( kidding)

The food was excellent. The service was excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. They have paddle ball courts and an AC EV charging station.

Our room was very old and outdated. In desperate need of an upgrade. The TV stations available are extremely limited. No smart tv to link Netflix or uTube to…

    6SharilynPosted on: 4-19-2025

    The surrounding nature is gorgeous

Our room was not the cleanest. The fact that you could see cobwebs in the bathroom meant that it wasn't thoroughly cleaned.

We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. We spent our first night at Houw Hoek 20 years ago. This time we were spoilt by the catering staff with chocolate writing on our desert plates wishing us a happy anniversary. All staff were friendly and helpful

A lovely hotel tucked away in the mountains. Very friendly staff, and accommodation clean and neat. The breakfast was a feast. Thank you team. Super one night stay.

Restaurant had delicious food and staff were helpful. There are a number of activities for the kids and the property is beautifully located in a wonderful setting. The Spa was also a great experience.

Construction across from our unit. Our unit was dated. The bathroom sink was cracked and there was no shower doorThe ceiling fan was hanging (not secured properly)The door to the unit was knocking about in the draft, making sleeping frustrating. You can hear the road noise throughout the night. The staff weren't always able to answer questions about items on the propertyThe table tennis bats were in shocking condition. The lights in that games room had most globes blown.A bad sewerage smell permeated across the grounds.
