    Pros +

    • We enjoyed the location, the cottage and it was easy to access the property. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed but we had diner in the village which was a nice adventure. The bed and the spa bath were very comfortable. Overall, we were happy with our stay.
    • Super cute, rural location! We enjoyed watching the sheep next door and exploring the beautiful gardens on the property. The dinner at the restaurant was excellent as well. Rooms were clean, comfortable, and well equipped.
    • The location and garden landscape are lovely. Stronechrubie has always been a gem at the entrance to Mount Somers. Now needs TLC.

    Cons -

    • Not all the windows could be blinded so we woke up early. The cottage was not very clean as we found hairs in the spa bath and underwear of one of previous female guests was left in one of the chairs.
    • Room furniture/decor feels quite old, but that's very minor since it was clean and comfortable.
    • I have been a stopover visitor since 2002. The motel units have not been refreshed. The kitchens need to be overhauled and new furniture for lounge, dining, bedside and outdoor. Sad to see.

Location and setting are great! Nice to have own little chalet.

The kitchen was not entirely functional. Burners on stovetop did not work well.

Beautiful place! Nice garden and tries, very friendly dogs ? Stargazing possible. Very interesting track to Woolshed Creek Hut!

    Cooker doesn't work

The room was lovely. The owner was so nice. Loved Rata the Leonburger (dog). Lovely views out over the garden. Easy parking. Very quiet rooms / area. Will definitely be staying again.

Tall ceilings, comfy bed. Location was at the start of the road that takes you to Mount Sunday which is famous for some scenes shot in Lord of the rings. Greeted by their Sheep dog who is super friendly.

Aircon was a little awkward to get warm air but got there eventually.

I absolutely loved this place, peaceful relaxing & private units. I fell in love with your dogs and it was so nice to bring our wee dog on holiday with us too. Fully eqipt kitchen was very helpful. Next time we will eat at the restaurant though, the menu looked delicious. Thanks for such a wonderful escape away

We first came here before Covid on a visit from Uk. At the time the lodge was comfortable and clean - expected the same standard as then

Firstly the room was not very clean (Huge dead moth on carpet and dirty around the edges of the window/doors) . In the bathroom the toilet obviously had a leak which was running across the floor into he shower - it had flannesls stuffed around the leak to soak up spillage!! Furniture was past its best as well. Also noticed the smake alarm had been removed - not sure about in New Zealand but in UK this is a necessity in all accommodation rentals. No human contact whatsoever when checking in and out - only the dog wandering about.

Location, setting and staff - all good. The family unit we had was roomy enough. It was a bonus to have a restaurant and bar on site.

The accommodation is very dated and tired. As for cleanliness it's difficult to judge when everything is so old but the bed sheets were fresh and the bathroom was freshly cleaned. The window furnishings were worn, the carpet was old and the kitchen was very dated with a painted benchtop that was chipped. The bathroom was ok but the shower is old and the water pressure not great at all.

Beautiful place, very cosy with a nice yard and lots of birds. The owners have two very nice dogs that love to be pat and hangout with you.Great location if you want to go check Mt Sunday (Edoras from lord of the ring)!

The kitchen and bathroom are a little old but fully functional so not really an issue.

Everything was fantastic. I booked while hiking up on the mountain in the rain and got in soaked, cold, tired and hungry. Since I was staying on a day the restaurant was closed, they kindly suggested I try getting a meal at the Mt Somers tavern and that was a very good alternative. The heat was turned on already for me when I got there so the room was warm. The plush carpet, clean, comfy bed with feather duvet and the giant bath, were all just amazing. There was even a snug covered garage for my car and tūis singing in the pristine garden and sunny, private patio. There are two beautiful dogs to pat wandering round the office as an added bonus. I didn't realize till later, but I think the manager (owner?) even charged me less than I read it would be at first, which was very kind. The whole experience (the stay and the lovely people at the local tavern) made me fall in love with Mt Somers and it's people and I'll be back again for sure!

I had booked the room with the spa bath on purpose, but couldn't make the bubbles work. I only found the switch for it behind the towel rail the next morning before leaving, but it wasn't a big deal. The bath was still so great!

We woke in our spacious two bedroomed, self contained chalet to birdsong amid the numerous trees. It would be a charming wedding venue. This accommodation is not brand new but is very clean and comfortable, There is a licensed restaurant on the premises which is opened (from memory) two or three nights a week and for functions. We were there on a Tuesday when it was not open, but were travelling with everything we needed so that was not a priority for us. It is has a fantastic heat pump which is toasty on a cold evening, the beds were comfy, the towels artfully folded with care, soaps and shampoo provided and a great hair dryer. Staff were lovely, great communication in advance of arrival too. Thank you

The shower is low pressure, with a very adequate hot water supply. So it is gentle rather than full force. Not a complaint, just saying.

Lovely quiet place. Has a heat-pump to keep you warm. Would stay again.

    The restaurant was closed.

Spacious bathroom with spa bath. Staff very friendly

Bathroom could have had a bit more storage. No free wifi

Set in lush green environment. Great restaurant on site. Excellent staffs.

The WiFi in unit 5 did not work well.

Perfect spot to visit Mt Potts/Edoras (LOTR) and surroundings (40 minutes by car) - nice cottage; the owners' dogs, friendly and playful, were adorable. Very relaxing environment.

The shower could use some updating; otherwise, functional and spacious bathroom.

Restaurant and staff were amazing. We really appreciated the lively, relaxed atmosphere and the great food.

The accommodation was very dated, particularly in the kitchen and bathroom. For example, the cooker looked like one we had when I was a child, and that was 50 years ago. The shower looked like it was about to fall off the wall and the TV didn’t work. That said, the bedding was professionally cleaned so felt fresh.

    Great location, very comfortable bed

No staff available on check in or note left as to what room I was in. Check in time on booking.com said 1.00pm. Phone call message referred to booking.com and host messaged thought I was in room 2. Key in door so I went with that. A follow-up would have been nice. Not the best welcome sorry.
