The chateau is located opposite the historic citadelle and just a few minutes walk from the centre of town. The hotel has beautiful gardens with a terrace to sit and read or enjoy a drink. The restaurant is modern and well appointed and has a good menu with good quality food. Our room was quirky with a huge bedroom with amazing plasterwork details on the walls. The bathroom was enormous with similarly amazing features. The bed was the most comfortable we'd slept in on our 10 days trip.
The property could do with some investment eg the shutters need updating but we absolutely loved it.
Lovely spaces and gardens
Our bedroom was upstairs of a duplex and would have been good to have a basin as well as lavatory
Very pleasant place with a good restaurant
The lady who greeted me on reception was a little grumpy and there was no parking available at first. I found a space outside 30 mins later so it wasn't an issue in the end
Everything, our room was beautiful, the staff were attentive and professional and the breakfast was excellent and in our room.
Nothing, it was perfect!
Disappointing
Sadly it isn't the hotel and restaurant we remember having stayed in on several occasions in the past (pre Covid). We were travelling back to UK from Portugal and this was to be the highlight of our return journey having remembered it from past stays. The restaurant used to have a very high standard of food and staff and the rooms were charming. It would appear that things have changed dramatically - possibly new owners as the staff seemed different (much younger) but we don't know. The current room was bare and had been painted a drab mustard colour. We booked a Club room which we thought would provide a large double bed - sadly we received two single beds put together. The set menu with wine pairings was a "surprise" which they would not say the contents in advance. I could not eat the starter or main course. The main course (fish with spinach) was extremely salty. I told the staff and they tried to produce a non-salty version again without success. We were offered a discount of 6 euros plus the bottle of water from the 200 euro set menu price as a gesture.... Such a shame for what was such a great place to stay and eat. I do however hope they can improve.
Lovely staff, nice room, very comfortable
Bar and restaurant not open
It was a while ago now but I think the breakfast offered a good range of choices, the food was very flavoursome and the location of our table with a view of the gardens was excellent.
Again it was a while back but I seem to recall that you did not offer any cooked breakfast eg eggs. That would be welcome too.
Location excellent. Lovely to walk the ramparts with our dog. Breakfast in the room was very good. Dinner was excellent as was the sommelier. She recommended a very nice bottle of wine.
Better curtains in the room that block out the light. Shame you don’t allow dogs in the restaurant
The Chateau was in tired condition,
The dining experience was pretentious and not particularly good. The tasting menu was supposed to be special dishes but everything was also on the A la carte menu. The gardens, which could be a lovely feature, are not well looked after. The garden furniture was ugly and poorly arranged.
The location of the hotel is great. We really enjoyed our dinner and the staff were excellent. The Sommelier really knew her subject and she enthusiastically described each wine on the wine flight. The ambience in the restaurant was warm and welcoming.
Our Club room was alright but did not represent value for money. We have travelled extensively and were expecting more from the room. However it was clean and serviceable. Our major disappointment was to be charged $10.00 for two tea bags which outrageous. My wife went to reception, she is bi-lingual in French, to ask for two tea bags of English breakfast tea as there were only to Earl Grey tea bags in the room. The receptionist said there would be a charge which my wife thought was odd. When we checked out we found out the hotel was charging 10 Euro for two tea bags.
Food and service and staff were excellent
Some rooms needed a little tlc
Good location. Friendly staff. Decent restaurant. Room was very nice after we were moved from initial room which was outside the main building and had poor heating
Poor heating in the initial room which was in an outer building
Beautiful old hotel with great food at a reasonable price
Beautiful room, fabulous view over the garden
No dogs allowed in bar & restaurant
Perfect location with a beautiful restaurant and attentive staff
Breakfast very good,dinner disappointing.Staff very helpful .
Dinner
Great location beautiful town
Awful food very disappointing quality and far too much vinegar on everything. Cold raw eggs with cabbage was the worst dish I've ever tried. Very noisy thin walls in the bedrooms too until late evening.
