- Like stepping into a stately home. The grandeur of the room was outstanding.Staff member was friendly and v. accommodating. Breakfast was plentiful with much choice. Free parking available too.
- Beautiful quaint hotel en route to Alps
- Lovely Chatellerie which oozes character in a beautiful location. We used it as a stop-off on a very long drive (out of season) so we didn’t see the the property at its best, but what we did see was lovely. And the staff are exceptional, charming, and very welcoming.
Cons -
- Some attention to detail is required, wall paper coming off in the bathroom of the Roch Suite. And the plumbing needs replacing. All a bit too complicated.
- No in house restaurant
- Room was a little tired, but nothing a few minutes with a screwdriver and some paint wouldn’t fix. Didn’t detract from our evening.

The view is great. The room is rather nice. The bathroom was nice and comfy, very relaxing. We ordered the "bag of threat" supplement, which was really worth the price.
The parking was closed and the staff did not told us beforehand. We were unable to contact the hotel by phone to have this information and got stuck in front of a closed gate after looking for the not-so-well indicated entrance. In the bathroom, some lights were broken and flashing. In the main room, the ceiling lights were turned on, just enough to be visible during the night and we were unable to shut it down.
Manager who owes the hotel was amazing and very accommodating. Lovely hotel with history. The manager spent time telling us the history of the building. We stayed in room 28, stunning view and jacuzzi was awesome. Highly recommend this hotel and will hopefully return in 2025 ?
Room lovely, staff very friendly and helpful
We struggled to bring our cases from the car park - lots of stairs. It would have been better if we had been advised to take luggage out the car, into the hotel, before parking.
Beautiful view and the room was decorated wonderfully, the bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space. Really liked having the direct access to the gardens (though a bit awkward having people walk by looking into our room). The staff were lovely, especially the lady on our first night, she spoke fluent english and the second lady spoke enough english for us to effectively communicate. The whole hotel was very much how I imagined traditional styles there would be.
I used the spa bath, filled it up and got in then started the bubbles, at which point a musty smell began and didn't stop until the bubbles stopped. Once out of the bath and drained there was a lot of limescale. I don't think the jets had been run for some time. There was mould on the shower ceiling and the bathroom door handle fell off with just a light touch, it appeared as if it had been previously glued on. Breakfast was perhaps normal for europe, it seemed a little bare to me. The coffee machine dispensed very little - maybe 20ml so had to do a few presses to get even half a cup.
The room was themed well, and was very comfy bed.
Price is highest, while a lovely area we was told that we has private access to garden, but this was not the case, we had our door open but ended up having dogs, people all walking past our back door, lucky we had cover on us in bed. Also the spa i am guessing has not been used to much as left black sediment with the spa on draining. Also shower was pretty mouldy on its room, could do with cleaning.
Firstly, they let me park my motorcycle in the courtyard which was secure. The view from the panoramic restaurant was a good way to start the day. Cassel is a wonderful little town with great restaurants and a lot of history from WW1.
The room was large and decorated well. Beds were comfy.
The booking.com ad said the hotel has a restaurant, but it doesn't. Booked on the basis we would eat there. When we checked in 5pm Monday night the receptionist advised they had no restaurant. The receptionist suggested that one of the local restaurants may be open, so having walked to the restaurant in the town at 6:30pm we found all the local restaurants were closed, so was unable to get a meal. Wholly unacceptable and misleading advertising a restaurant when all that is available is breakfast. Having travelled for hours to get to the hotel, went to bed hungry.
Did t have breakfast - had to leave for an early shuttle crossingRoom noce
It was unique
Intrusive traffic noise. Internal noise. No car park.
Charming historic setting. Downstairs very elegant. Staff helpful and charming. Bed was comfortable and sheets nice. We enjoyed jacuzzi bath and shower. Lively atmosphere and easy parking on site.
We had little hot water in our first room so we moved rooms. Had no electricity in wall sockets in bedroom of second room we moved to, so had no wall sockets/ tv and could only to boil kettle in bathroom to make a cup of tea. We were early travellers in the season and felt the hotel had just opened or was preparing for visitors. Jacuzzi bath and shower had not been tested prior to our arrival and black bits of water mold were residue after bath. Came down for drink at bar and all seemed closed. Just felt they were fire fighting rather than up and running. Got the impression we were one of their first visitors of the season.
Amazing historic rooms. Good breakfast. Lovely setting by the Square
The entrance courtyard looks lovely, the hotel has obviously been very beautiful and well-loved in the past and has lovely original features. We stayed in the king suite with spa bath and the room was a good size and the bed very comfortable.
The room was expensive (over €250 euros for one night) and certainly not worth this money. The room was downstairs in a weird and confused part of the hotel which looks like it is used for a mixture of storage and a conference room. There were some Christmas decorations still up adding to the unloved feel. The windows and screens from the outside terrace were dirty (affecting the view significantly) and the shower was almost unusable due to significant limescale making the majority of the water shoot off to one side. The biggest issue for us however was that we chose this hotel based on it offering a restaurant and bar so that we didn’t have to be looking for somewhere to go late after arriving and could just relax. The pictures of the bar and view from that room looked great and we were excited about being able to relax here but instead had to search the town for somewhere open and very few places were. Both the photos and details of this hotel are old and out of date and neither the bar, restaurant (or pool for that matter) appear to have been available for a couple of years now. The details and photos need changing to reflect what is on offer at the hotel as it is not correct and leads to a disappointing and over-priced stay.
The room was spacious and clean with beautiful views.
There were limited facilities as the bar and restaurant were closed. Also no local restaurants were open either on our first night.
Great views and rooms had character.
No lift. Lots of steps and narrow staircase to the bathroom in one room. Parking was awkward. Couldn’t flush toilet in me of the rooms.
This hotel is so lovely. We were looking for something close to Calais as we were taking Le Shuttle, so this was a random choice that delighted us both. Cassel is a beautiful town and the hotel felt very much like the experience of being in the town - it has elegance and personality, and the host was so kind and helpful. We're sure we will be back for another visit.
Amazing building, views and history of the Châtellerie in reception and in the good size room, staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good:-).
It was not obvious the Châtellerie did not have a restaurant... We were told there lots of restaurants in the town, we walked up there and found ONE. Luckily we liked it and did not mind the walk. The day we arrived it was wet and cold, the central heating was not on (understandable in September) but the electric heaters in the bathroom did not work - definitely not OK. Châtellerie reception is only staffed certain hours so I could not get the problem fixed:-( we left colder than we arrived!
