Hôtel de France et de Russie

The hotel is really quite dated and basic, probably in keeping with the French two-star system. It's really the only hotel in town, so there's little competition. The real plus was the staff. The evening manager went out of her way to help me find somewhere to eat dinner on a Monday night--admittedly 15 minutes away! Five stars for the staff, but the hotel lacks charm and could seriously stand some updating.

Dated decor, minimal charm.

The cleanliness, the room and bathroom space and the overall ambience was fabulous. The staff were very helpful and were very proactive with my requests. I have stayed in hotels all over the world and this hotel in Thiviers was memorable in the all round excellent experience. The room was very tastefully furnished and the decor had kept some of the elegance of past design. An all round superb stay - I will be returning.

Hotel was comfortable, well appointed and staff friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was excellent. Meeting the owner was great and a nice touch. This is a great hotel for a nice stay in Thiviers.

Unfortunately, the restaurant attached (but separate business) was closed and is closed more than it is open. What with the weather cold and rainy, to eat at the restaurant there would have been excellent.

Ambience and location of hotel and friendliness of staff. Also bike storage facilities were very useful.

Location was good, staff friendly, however Thiviers was disappointing, only one bar/ food outlet open. Much nicer places to stay

For 3 star, no bar and hotel locked at 8pm, needed you to enter via a back door with door code. Breakfast disappointing, pre poured apple juice, bread and brioche, no yoghurt or croissant.

Beautiful hotel, spacious big room, comfortable large bed.

The hotel is in a perfect position in town. Just a short walk away from the very centre.The room was wonderfully spacious with a high ceiling and a large window overlooking the garden below. The bathroom, also nice and large, is beautifully decorated, with the most enormous retro sink.There are also many interesting and authentic pieces of furniture on the room.Our host, Halo, is the most wonderful personality. She is both warm and friendly as well as informative and caring of her guests. She was an absolute delight who made us feel very welcome.As a final note...her breakfasts are amazing. We travel a great deal and rarely find either a good cup of coffee or a memorable breakfast....this is Halo's 'piece de resistance'. Great stay!

We had no complaints with the hotel, other than the restaurant limited opening hours. Unfortunately we were not able to try it.

Warm welcome, lovely large room in a traditional property in a good, quiet location close to the centre of the town.Superb breakfast with local treats!

Although the ground floor restaurant is nothing to do with the hotel, we were unimpressed(to say the least).

Had a super stay. Great location, a few minutes walk from the train station. Lovely refurbished property retaining traditional French features. Hosted by a lovely helpful couple, giving many tips on the area. Nice continental breakfast to set us up for the day. Stayed here whilst visiting family in the near by village Saint Jean De Cole... a must see village. So pretty.

Windows can either be open wide or closed, sadly no in-between to allow some air in. Everything else was spot on.

The hosts were excellent, Sharon and Adrian were genuinely interested in us and making our stay as pleasant as possible. The room was fantastic and clean and exceeded our expectations. We would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

Honestly, there was nothing not to like.

Excellent restaurant, the food was impeccable as was the service. This is a lovely hotel for a couple of nights to see the sights and had a great local market. The staff were really friendly and helped me with the little bit of French that I do have! I would definitely visit again.

The garden at the front is very pretty but there was only one table and chairs so it wasn't very welcoming to sit if you wanted to enjoy the sunshine. There is another seating area at the back of the hotel but looking out onto the car park didn't attract me to do that.

Lovely property and hosts. Comfortable bed and good facilities. Good breakfast with a variety of local produce. All reasonable priced and would recommend. Restaurant a separate business.

Standard room we stayed in was very small - should have booked a bigger room.

Owners provided us with diner when all restaurants were closed and the same next morning. Saved us from starvation on a holiday weekend - labor day in France

Lovely hotel close to town center, fantastic mattress and pillows. Huge room and bathroom with separate multi function shower and bath with shower. Very friendly hosts and great restaurant to boot.
