Pros +
- Proprietor very friendly. Room very clean. View of the chateau out the window of my room. Great village atmosphere. Wonder what the lake view is like. Parking next to hotel is free. Tourist office very friendly. Chateau Combourg and grounds next door
- Location is great (castle & lake view) with delicious meals.A homy feeling with such combination of classic & modern ambience. Friendly host/reception(esp.Claire & Louis). Enjoyed our short stay:-))
- Good view of the lake from our room. The limited staff were pleasant and helpful although we were left with the impression that they realised what was on offer was below standard.
Cons -
- Wifi was out due to a storm days earlier.
- Really dated hotel in need of maintenance and modernisation. Heating didn't work in our first room. The manager insisted that French law required rooms to be heated to 19°C. After an arguement she knocked on our door insisting the room was warm. When she discovered the radiator was not working at all our room was changed. The advertised restaurant was closed for the duration of our stay.
- The breakfast was adequate but quite simple.

We have stayed here several times and have always had a comfortable stay. The staff are lovely and the restaurant is great.
I loved the convenience as a stop over from St. Malo, and the picturesque setting beside the lake. Also the retro 60’s feel of the place was bizarrely appealing. The member of staff on duty was very friendly, helpful and chatty.
The breakfast was adequate but quite simple.
The staff were exceptional. The view over the Lake was beautiful. Our bikes were managed securely.
Breakfast was not good and not value for money. There were ant traps in the dinning room!
Excellent staff, extremely good set menu for dinner. Room was adequate and very clean.
I would have liked a shelf in the shower for shampoo, soap/shower gel etc. and a towel rail in the bathroom.
cute place with good access to historical cities. good base to visit Mount Saint Michel, Vitre, Fougères, Dinan, Saint Malo
Very friendly staff. Location. Had a garage to store motorbikes: note- hidden costs of an additional €10 to store motorbike in it.
It was set in beautiful location, however our Twin room window when open, opens up over ventilation tubes : thus noisy and smells of food. Hidden costs of garage to store motor bikes was a surprise when paying bill.
Pleasant owners, and warm welcome. Beautiful view over the lake. Juliette balcony to stand and look out. The small town is very picturesque. The chateau is beautiful to look at from the outside (we didn't go in).
The interior of the hotel, including the rooms, needs a real face-lift. It's very dated, old fashioned, smells a bit fusty. Considering how beautiful the setting is, it would be worth smartening everything up, and the hotel would definitely earn itself another star.
Wonderful location - really friendly and helpful staff
Bathroom was a bit tired
The staff were very helpful, friendly and very accomodating. They squeezed us in for dinner even though the restaurant was fully booked. Our evening meal was excellent. View of the lake from our room was a bonus. This is a homely French hotel rather than a characterless international chain hotel.
The bedroom and ensuite were looking a bit tired and the bath was a bit small for showering in.
Excellent location. Beautiful town, lovely location overlooking a lake and sitting across a from a chateau. Really lovely family running the hotel.
Really good value for money.
Our room had a lovely view over the lake and we were very pleased to have shutters on the window as it was a very hot day. Free parking right outside the hotel was great.
The bathroom is good but very small and we could have done with a fan in the room to help with the heat.
Location and fantastic staff
Our room was tired and needed painting and a new bathroom floor
Breakfast was awful so basic and yogurts tasted off. Croissants cheap and tasteless and jams horrid. So nothing to like really.
towels in the bathroom where horrible to small and paper thin. Shower leaked . Couldn’t open the window as the TV was in the way of the window, horrid smells coming through the window. Wifi was crap kept going off or didn’t work at all.
The staff were fantastic food excellent, and the location was also perfect.
There isn't anything I didn't dislike about our stay. The only thing I would suggest the rooms would benefit from is air-conditioning. It wasn't very hot when we stayed but I would imagine in a hot spell the rooms could get very hot to sleep in. But I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this hotel again.
Room overlooked lake with double opening windows , was nice to watch wildlife . Had nice evening Dinner in Restaurant which we booked . Room was basic , comfy bed , bit small bathroom shower unit .
on our first day had bad smell after showering in bathroom . went breakfast which said was availible till 10am was not much left of continental breakfast to help ourselves to only cheeses & one slice of ham , and was not asked by staff member if we wanted top up .
The restaurant is definitely the highlight. Probably the best meal of a 10-day trip to France
On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable and the room was a lovely view of the lake. On the downside the bathroom was absolutely tiny, you couldn't move without banging some part of your body into some of the furniture. The extractor fund didn't work which probably accounted why there was so much mould around the ceiling area.
Brilliant location loved everything about Combourg .The hotel was just what was expected and more. Many thanks to the staff for a warm welcome and excellent service .
Picky persons might say the Hotel was dated
