About

The Hotel Rural L’Antic Portal is a charming, small family-run hotel located in Vilafamés, recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. Nestled in the historic center, the hotel offers a peaceful, authentic atmosphere, ideal for discovering the cultural, artistic, and natural treasures of the region. Guests can enjoy a range of nearby activities such as hiking, wine tasting, visiting local art galleries, and exploring the old town’s narrow cobbled streets. A delicious Mediterranean breakfast is served each morning in the dining area (available at an additional cost). Shops, bars, and local restaurants can be found just a short walk from the hotel. Vilafamés is home to several points of interest such as the Contemporary Art Museum (MACVAC), the medieval castle, and breathtaking viewpoints over the surrounding landscape. The Desert de les Palmes Natural Park is only 15 minutes away by car, and the Costa del Azahar beaches can be reached in around 30 minutes. Please note: The hotel reserves the right to assign a room different from the one initially selected, while always maintaining or improving the booked category and respecting the original reservation dates.

    Pros +

    • The location was perfect. The room was very comfortable.
    • Fantastic location with amazing views and a short walk to restaurant and bar options. The town itself is beautiful, historic and well worth a visit. I ate lunch at La Vinya just a short walk from the hotel and the food was superb. Breakfast here was basic tostadas, juice, yoghurt and coffees, the breakfast room is lovely, set into the stone walls and breakfast was 6 euros. The host is lovely. I had room 17 on the 3rd floor which is right by the street exit so a little noisy with people coming and going but with a good sized bathroom good water pressure and amazing view from the balcony and an armchair to enjoy the view. The parking isn't close and there are steep steps but if you can cope with the walk it is well worth it!
    • Situated in a fantastic old village, VERY beautiful building. Very friendly staff. Felt almost like ‘home’. Will surely come back!

    Cons -

    • It was clean and the host was very nice
    • I would have liked there to be facility in the room to make coffee and some drinking water to be provided. I would stay here again and look forward to going back!
    • Perhaps an English speaking receptionist would have helped but the staff were very attentive.

The location was perfect, right below the castle and next to very good restaurants but still quiet and peaceful. The hotel was immaculate and the staff very helpful. They even brought breakfast to our room the evening before as we had an early start the next day.

Perhaps an English speaking receptionist would have helped but the staff were very attentive.

This hotel is beautiful and the hosts were exceptional, so helpful, and friendly. Clean tidy room with a comfortable bed.

The walk up to the hotel is a killer! so people with reduced mobility I wouldn´t recomend. But on the last day we did find steps down to the public free car park which did make the walk a lot quicker (would be the last day!) But the position does make the surroundings beautiful. And you can drive up to drop off your suitcases.

Superb central location in a fascinating hilltop town. Fantastic views. Excellent room: far better than 2* suggests. Good simple breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff , who even got my parking ticket cancelled. Great value for money.

Located within the area for locals only parking. You can drive up to unload and reload luggage, but not for longer as we discovered, but the hosts sorted that too!

This is a real gem! The building is beautiful and its location perfect. The hosts are such a great helpful people. The view from my room was stunning, I could admire the sunrise each morning. Lovely restaurants near by, all the main historic buildings and Museum of Contemporary Art (a must visit) are just round the corner!

A bit more toiletries choice would be nice (there is only all in one gel), also a kettle would be so helpful! :)

A friendly welcome and lovely room, comfortable bed and great bathroom. Combination of traditional and modern, all in excellent condition. It's a lovely hotel built into the rock in a stunning ancient town.

The hotel is very well located in the upper part of Villafarmes, near the art gallery, church and castle. The room was nice and spacious, as was the bathroom. There were also area in the corridors where we could sit.

The breakfast was meagre and we thought the accommodation was overpriced compared to other places we have stayed this trip.Apart from the breakfast there was no food and drink available at other times.

A beautiful Spanish hotel in the heart of Vilafames. We were offered a choice of rooms. Both were lovely. The host was extremely friendly & accomodating. Breakfast was delicious. Could not find fault with anything.

    Loved everything.

The location of the hotel was really good. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was lovely. Our room had a lovely terrace for sitting and enjoying the views.

Some possible additions would help, such as:Some hooks on doors so that coats, clothes, towels etc could be hung up.A waste paper basket would be appreciated.Facilities to make a hot drink in the room. The heating was on for the first day of our stay then turned off, so we were cold at times (visited in March).

Very nice and big room with all you need in it

Nothing - everything was perfect from the first until the last day. Recommending for everyone as a starting point for cycling trips around the area

Just remember, this is a 2 star hotel. Everything was there, everything worked. It was fine.

Pillows could have been a bit better, but OK for the price.
