    Pros +

    • The room was clean and tasteful. The property was peaceful and well maintained. Excellent hiking right out the door. Really nice Honesty Bar in the lounge area.
    • Great breakfast, comfy room, great walks available nearby, morning prayers in the chapel. The brewery is also nice. This is a uniquely peaceful place to stay.
    • Another wonderful stay. Although the rooms are spartan, they are clean and comfortable. And the restaurant continues to be first rate!

    Cons -

    • We had dinner in the restaurant and the service was SO inattentive. The dining room was not busy. Only five tables occupied. Five staff members all stood by the kitchen door talking, most with their backs to the diners. We had dirty dishes and empty glasses in front of us for most of the meal. It felt like the young waitstaff wasn’t trained and/or supervised. Breakfast service wasn’t great either. Restaurant experience was 180 degrees opposite the hotel experience. Food was fine. Service just wasn’t there at all.
    • It’s really quiet at night. It took me a while to fall asleep because I’m used to public transportation passing by by window. Wait, I guess this is a good thing too.
    • The bells during the night are a little disturbing, but understandable given the monastic setting. Garden facing rooms could be a bit noisy at night in the summer due to people sitting out eating - but this stops at a reasonable time around 10 pm so this is not a big issue.

Unusual and attractive monastery setting, large rooms, clean. The restaurant is expensive but the food quality is good and matches the price, and reflect Swiss prices in general.

The bells during the night are a little disturbing, but understandable given the monastic setting. Garden facing rooms could be a bit noisy at night in the summer due to people sitting out eating - but this stops at a reasonable time around 10 pm so this is not a big issue.

The location was amazing, beautiful, peaceful and quiet.Everything was spotless. The rooms and beds were very comfortable.Everything was prepared for our little dog to sleep comfortably.

The monastery bells woke some of us up more than once.Dinner at the restaurant was very limited in variety.

I liked how seamlessly the hotel is incorporated within the monastery. It feels new and old at the same time. I enjoyed this aspect a lot! Furthermore, the staff was very friendly, the breakfast was delicious and the rooms were maintained very well.

I wasn’t really sure if eggs were included in the breakfast or not. I ordered scrambled eggs and the server asked for my room number, so I assumed they were charged to my room. However, upon Check-Out there was no charge. My suggestion: Some clarity about what additional items you can order and how they are charged, would be good.

The rooms were very nicely done. The facilities was also very nice to walk around in. The Dinner was excellent and the staff were very attentive and friendly. Great place to relax.

A very nice and spacious hotel in the building which used to be a monastery. Several nice hikes starts literally at the hotel. The breakfast is delicious, with a lot of choice and with an amazing Bircher muesli. The staff is very friendly.

One should be prepared to get waken up by the bells if sleeping with windows open (but it adds to the charm!)

Come here for the unique and amazing location. Also easily accessible by public transport. So worth experiencing this unique place.

Breakfast was good, but could benefit from some more choices, especially in healthy options, and some larger cups!

Another wonderful weekend stay in this hidden gem in canton Thurgau. Comfortable and spacious room, attentive service, and delicious restaurant.

Wish we could have stayed longer.

Clean and big room with modern private bathroom

    9DominadorPosted on: 12-14-2022

The place was perfect for a weekend getaway for the family. And while the room was spartan, it was quiet, comfortable, and clean. Also pleasantly surprised that the room had its own toilet and shower. The in house restaurant was the highlight of the trip. The staff was welcoming and accommodating, especially for our six-year old son. The menu was excellent.

Considering the fact that the place was a Benedictine abbey, we understood why there was no TV or room service. And while my wife was not happy with it, I was totally fine.

Picturesque location in a hilly Swiss German village. The historic hotel building is absolutely beautiful & has been lovingly maintained to a very high standard. The room was very generously sized with a very comfortable bed and top-quality bedding. The bathroom was a bit smaller than we would have liked but nevertheless perfectly function and clean! The buffet breakfast was very good with good quality bread, cheeses and cooked meats. It even has its own brewery! What was amazing was....how quiet & peaceful the rooms were......even when the bells were ringing!

    ¨Can't think of anything!
