Pros +
- The whole atmosphere was brilliant. It is a lovely hotel. The best thing is the food - the restaurent is excellent. The locked yard was perfect for my bicycle. The breakfast was very nice. The location is perfect: away from busy roads and opposite the church. The market in Selles is large and has a wide variety of great stalls.
- Large quiet room, friendly helpful staff and delicious breakfast.
- Beautiful accommodation, with great restaurant and very nice staff!
Cons -
- There were a few tiny niggles with the bathroom, but nothing to complain about. The loo seat needed tightening, and the shower was missing a fitting so the head had be hand held.
- Sadly the restaurant was booked for an event so we missed out on food which looked delicious.
- Bed isn't super comfortable but still a good night sleepBeware - there are stairs to the room!

Very comfortable room. We had a very good dinner in the evening. Breakfast was perfect for our needs, a perfect baguette. Safe parking.
We arrived at 15.30 and had to wait two hours for room, the reception was closed to 18.00.
Convenient location. Great food and comfortable room. Staff are all very friendly and helpful.
Character property with great restaurant
More facilities in rooms and more ambience
Full of character. A traditional French inn turned into a comfortable hotel with good facilities. The restaurant is obviously very popular with the locals and provides good fare for travellers. The link with Joan of Arc is a bonus
Nothing really
The location is delightful in the middle of the village opposite the church. The restaurant was spacious and our bedroom was perfectly clean and spacious and had everything we needed. The host was helpful.
I left feeling Le Lion D’Or could have been a delightful little bijou overnight stop but the surroundings and ambiance let it down. The area outside the bedrooms is described as a balcony/ patio which is true but it is not in good repair and the tired and worn plastic seating and tables outside the bedrooms definitely need replaced. It could have been so much prettier with a little care. Sadly my evening meal was also luke warm. I had to ask for my roast beef to be reheated as parts were cold. This worried me that it had not been freshly cooked. I was disappointed. There was a general lack of engagement by the young staff.
This is a charming traditional French hotel in a small town - it had character and we loved it! The quad family room (one double, two singles) was spacious with a clean modern bathroom. We ate in the restaurant downstairs which was busy on a Saturday night - with lots of French diners which is always a good sign. Moderately priced but good quality, French food. We just had one night here as a base to visit ZooParc Beauval the next day. Would definitely stay there again. Free secure parking was a bonus.
There was no fan or A/C in the room - it was a little warm but not unbearable.
No breakfast taken. Yes, historic building but I wonder if everything complies with safety standards. The bathroom was a large room with facilities but could have served as a bedroom. Not over-impressed.
Location was ideal and a great place to stay for a break in our journey between Caen and the Dordogne. Our room was perfect and the meal we had in the restaurant was fabulous - great selection, good quality and reasonably priced. We will definitely be staying here again.
Nothing the hotel room are seperste to the restaurant out the back up uneven steps . Room was big but dirty papers under bed. Bathroom walls floor dirty we would have gone somewhere else but had driven 6 hours abd waitran hour for the hotel staff to turn up at 18 00. The bed was comfortable and linen nice.
Everything.
A convenient stopover between the Med and the Channel, but although I hadn’t realised it, it was a very interesting hotel and town to stop as well as potentially a useful centre for the mid Loire area. History of Joan of Arc, who stayed here, and the building has been sensitively converted into a comfortable hotel and restaurant with off-street parking. It may not offer modern luxuries, but all the reasonable facilities are there (en suite, WiFi, etc) and much more interesting than most stopovers. Well worth considering if you want to experience real France
Hotel not open until 6pm. Breakfast 9am, but that suited me, and it was quiet and out-of-season
Do not be deceived by the first impression of the exterior. It looks a little tired BUT the interior is clean and tidy. The rooms are simple but comfortable. The staff were very pleasant and helpful for both the hotel and the restaurant. There is free secure off road parking to the rear. The town was quiet at night meaning I had a good nights sleep. The restaurant was fantastic with some seriously good French food. Book the restaurant in advance to avoid disappointment. I would visit it again.
Nothing to dislike.
A simple hotel which we booked mostly for the reputation of the restaurant, which we found fully justified. Don't be fooled by the appearance of the premises from the outside - it looks like a simple bar so typical of France (nothing wrong with that), but dining in the courtyard at the rear is a wonderful experience in itself, enhanced by the food offered.
The bedroom was basic, perfectly adequate and clean. Don't expect toweling gowns and slippers, do expect a clean, quiet room in which to sleep after an exceptional dinner
Lovely place with their own excellent restaurant. Huge, quiet room. Beautiful old wisteria outside our room. Great location. Good breakfast including freshly pressed orange juice. B.t.w. Joan of Arc stayed here in 1429.
There wasn't anything we didn't like.
