Hotel El Dorado

This was a really neat stop for us. The property was extremely quiet with little business as we came during the shoulder season. Pool was drained and restaurant/bar was closed. However the amazing location was super impressive. Easy walkability to eateries and some activity. The best part was learning of the history of the hotel as it was built for actors in the filming of Lawrence of Arabia, Dr. Zivago and more. The front desk clerk was very nice and showed us around and how certain furnishings were used in the film sets. Loved! There is a neat little beach bar with delish breakfast and fun vibe just a short walk away too!

Hotel showing some maintenance neglect, but such reasonable pricing, history and super location made up for it.

Great location on the beach. Historical setting, scene of filming of many famous movies like "Lawrence of Arabia".Authentic time capsule of the era of Hollywood in Almeria province.

Breakfast and service were very good, although menu was the same every morning.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It's located in a peaceful spot right by the beach, which made for a relaxing atmosphere. While the hotel itself isn't modern, it has a lot of charm and character. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. I was traveling alone, but I felt safe and comfortable throughout my stay and truly enjoyed every moment.

The breakfast was simple, but I later learned that this is quite typical in Spain. Despite that, I never left the table feeling hungry. The coffee, on the other hand, was excellent!

Big rooms right on the beach. An hotel very different from any other with lots of connections and history with the movies and movie stars. The Management are wonderful. We will be going back for another stay soon.

WiFi could have been better.

Proximity to the seaFantastic history of the property and gorgeous common areas. The place could easily be a high end boutique hotel if someone could invest in an upgrade. Who doesn’t want to visit where Omar Sharif stayed and look at the location of the Lawrence of Arabia film. I hope the hotel preserves its wonderful artefacts and the old telephone room - old style glamour!Great comfortable beds, good quality sheets and towels - 5* quality

Very weak WiFi Shame the internal decoration, curtains etc not yet upgraded. But the size of the common areas and the views made it less noticeable.

Quirky property close to the beach

Needed some attention lounger cushions heavily stained no facilities wasn’t told prior to booking no restaurant,bar couldn’t get a hot drink

The hotels history was very interestingWe had a sea view and walked onto the beach from the hotel.The swimming pool was very clean and refreshing as it was a very hot dayWe enjoyed walking along the sea front and had a lovely meal at one of the many bars

The bed and pillows were not very comfortable-too hardThe bathroom needed some attention - The Toilet seat didn't fit and was loose. The shower curtain needed replacing and so did the bath, which was quite marked on the bottom. The shower didn't stay warm

Outside of the hotel could do with a bit of maintenance and a good paint to reflect the inside of the hotel. Could have done with air con in the 2nd childrens bedroom

The staff was very friendly and the locationnwas perfect. The hotel was also kept clean and the pool area was very comfortable and well taken care of.

Only problem for me was the window went out into the hallway instead of outdoors.

The hotel is amazing! Beautiful and cosy. For 2 stars it has really big rooms, swimming pool where you can swim even in the night under the stars! It’s located right on a beach. You can also book massage- the person comes to your room professionally equipped! Very friendly and helpful staff.

We were given a free upgrade, it was right on the beach, bars and restaurants near by

The continental breakfast was actually only toast. Continental usually includes cheese and cold meats

Nothing it looked beautiful, we booked for one night planning to stay for a week if it was ss good as it looked BUT.

They phoned me just before we arrived ssying they had no hot water and cancelled our booking. We were left stranded at 17:00hrs and have to frantically search fot alternative accomodation. SHOCKING.

Loved the character of this hotel wonderful views right on the beach. A short stroll along the paseo or through the streets to an array of bars and restaurants. The new ensuits with lovely showers.

The hotel retains a feeling of yesterday.....you can feel the history of the film stars who stayed here, and of course, there are pictures everywhere. The location is perfect, and we were treated to a free breakfast in the restaurant that overlooked the beach. There are plenty of places to relax and swim, if you felt like it...or wander along to many bars and restaurants a little along the promenade..which is flat. A great experience. The host is also very approachable and makes you feel extremely welcome. Parking on the street, but very safe area. Our dog was made very welcome too.

Lovely views of the water. Nice pool. Everything worked and the bed was comfortable.

Have soap in the bathroom in refillable bottles attached to the walls - not little packets.

The great welcome and assistance by Enrique. The view from our suite was magnificent and the Hollywood film memorabilia was very interesting.

The hotel is over 60 years old so is showing its age in some places but this actually seems to add to the authenticity of the hotel which was built by David Lean’s ( Lawrence of Arabia and Bridge on the River Kwai) ‘dedicated Maniac’ Eddie Fowlie.
