About

Hotel Restaurant Walliser Sonne enjoys a quiet location at the forest’s edge in the village of Gluringen, near the Alpine passes of Fürka, Grimsel and Nufenen. Run by a Dutch family, it offers panoramic views from every room, free WiFi and free parking. In summer, the Goms area is a great base for hiking, biking and motorbike trips. All rooms feature bright wooden furniture, satellite TV and a bathroom with hairdryer. Located away from the main street, guests can enjoy a stay in a quiet countryside environment. Right next to the Hotel Walliser Sonne, there is ski school and a gentle slope for beginners and children. The ski areas of Fiesch-Riederalp-Bettmeralp and Bellwald, and the famous Aletsch Glacier, are easily reachable by public transport. During summer, guests can enjoy the buffet breakfast in the hall or on the garden terrace. In winter, guests can relax in front of the open fireplace. On request, dinner with daily menus of 2 or 3 courses is provided in the evening. On request, guests can be picked up from Gluringen Train Station, 1640 feet away. Pros +

    • my single Room was quiet and had good enwuite bathroom w comfy bed and mountain view which I think all rooms will have.. I was lent a kettle and plus adaptors as swiss sockets are unique 3 pins. Great buffet breakfast included.. best value for money stay on my Interrail trip. Great location near mountain railway station and many paths so was able to get around by train, bus and foot very easily.
    • Good value and beautiful surrounding!
    • Good bed. Clean room. Great piece. Amazing village. Covered motorcycle parking. Decent breakfast. Fast easy check in.

    Cons -

    • Breakfast was served in a large lounge-restaurant also set up for winter evenings but locked up at other times when I was there in late Sept. It would have been nice to have had it open for sitting in to read etc even without heating as my room was small and the intenet signal was weak on the top floor. Lift was also broken which meant hauling luggage up a lot of stairs without an offer of help.
    • It’s not that sound proof which is expected as an old cottage.
    • Elevator didn’t work. WiFi couldn’t connect.

Room good in accordance with one start qualification. Situated at the second floor offer a charming look of superior Rhone valley.

The receptionist could be more friendly.

Simple and a bit stark, but correct. Breakfast ok, price very reasonable for the region, room was a good size.

The decor was missing some charm or warmth, and there was a smell left from a cleaning product that I didn’t much like.

The two male staff were incredible and extremely helpful and courteous. The Food was great for the price and the location is perfect.

The older woman that worked there was atrocious. It felt as if I was bothering her even being there.Check in was at 3pm, however I arrived earlier to drop my bags off to go exploring but the doors were locked and I couldn't access the hotel, so had to wait outside.

    The location is excellent

We have been repeatedly coming to this hotel; regrettably the attitude of the lady owner is becoming worse and worse. Instead of welcoming the guests (not just us) she is rather commanding them

Great views and quaint village with traditional timber houses. Well priced for location. Check in was with the friendly son who kindly made us some hot water for tea.

The owner made us breakfast and was fairly unpleasant. Insisted on where people sat even & was clearly annoyed when you sat at a too big table with a better view. Other guests were told off for using hot water in their thermos and asked to pay for it. There’s even a sign pointing this out. There’s no tea or coffee making facilities at hotel or in rooms and this could be set up in the foyer as a guest gesture. Clearly the owner is “over it” and needs to take herself out of hospitality for her, the hotel & guests sake. The hotel could do with a makeover and promote its excellent views.

the location is goodthe employee (not the owner) at the reception was friendly

very dirty rooms (bathroom really disgusting) and no cleaning during our stay, they just came in to turn down the heating, which is also very inconvenient when you come into a pretty cold room after a day out in the snow. Also the room had only one heating and no heating in the bathroom. Very unfriendly owner, you felt as a guest as if she hated you... also wanted to charge us 50cents for taking a tea bag for the hot tea bottle for the day tour. the ski room was cold and dirty as well, have never seen anything like that.

I was very excited to stay here for a night. It’s such a quiet and peaceful place. The facilities, the staff, the views from the windows—everything made me feel at home. I liked it so much! I will definitely visit again in the future.Thank you!

The young man on the check-in desk was welcoming and extremely kind and helpful. We arrived by motorbike and were extremely wet and cold. He was very concerned and made us a hot drink and lit the fire for us in the lounge so that we could warm up and dry out our clothes. We had the evening meal which was delicious. The hotel has a lot of character and was very clean and comfortable. The views were superb. The breakfast was nice and is a typical continental style. There are 4 floors, so you need to be fit if your room is at the top. There was plenty of parking outside. There is a bus stop and train station 10 minutes walk away and both services ran frequently throughout the day.

Location is very nice, although a little hard to find at top of village (there are signs, so keep an eye out for them). Pretty good value for money.

No frills hotel which is a bit dated and short on creature comforts. Breakfast was sparse and staff O.K. Had missed the 'restaurant service on request ' so disappointed no evening meal options, although there are two other restaurants within 10 minutes walking distance (one was closed when we tried).

The young gentleman on the check-in desk was very helpful and friendly. Our supper in the restaurant was very good. This hotel has a safe storage room for bicycles.

Nice area. Staff good and checking in/out was easy.

Restaurant closed on the day of our stay. Not told until arrival.

The room was a good size with comfortable beds and a lovely balcony overlooking the village, valley and mountains. I also enjoyed the included breakfast.
