    Pros +

    • The staff, location and the breakfast.
    • The staff, especially the waitress in the restaurant, were extremely nice. The location near the Samaria Gorge is fantastic. The breakfast was ample and filling. The dinner options were good, too.
    • I left a pair of shoes and the staff worked with me to send them by courier to my home! They went above and beyond.

    Cons -

    • The wifi wasn't strong
    • Room is not too large for two persons. Furniture and decoration are simple. No lift or elevator to carry heavy luggage to the room. The stairs are a bit steep for elders. Flies and roaches can be seen outside the room--this may be normal for mountainous areas.
    • No A/C (ok on September, though). Very high pillows. Basic breakfast. I recommed not to stay for breakfast on hike day - ask for a packed breakfast on previous evening and enjoy it somewhere along the route. Then you are able to start the hike before all the Chania buses hit the entrance at 7.20.

The hotel and restaurant is at the gateway to the Gorges de Samaria. For hikers it is a ideal stay before a long match. The restaurant serves good eating food with normal prices. A fridge is equipped inside the guest room. Staff are friendly and helpful to provide useful hiking information.

Decent room, well cleaned, close to Samarian Gorge entrance. Hotel provides shuttle bus 3 times per day to Xyloskalos (start of Samarian gorge hike).

No A/C (ok on September, though). Very high pillows. Basic breakfast. I recommed not to stay for breakfast on hike day - ask for a packed breakfast on previous evening and enjoy it somewhere along the route. The location is perfect if you want to sleep before or after the Samaria Gorge. We've arrived to hotel at 10AM, left the bags here and went to the Gorge, then returned for the night. There's also a parking on the hotel territory. The staff is super welcoming and ready to help, they have also gave me quite a few tips and pointers for visiting Gorge, an I definitely thankful for that one! The food is homemade-like - both simply and tasty, and the breakfast is great as well. The room is small but comfy, so perfect for short stays. The bathroom is the smallest of all the hotels I've visited in Greece, but had all the amenities and was very clean, and is more than enough.

I loved the entire facility. I felt like part of the family. I arrived late and they still made me dinner! The girls do ceramic work and I bought one of her teacups. So nice. I had booked here because I thought I was going to hike Samaria Gorge, but decided, not to do it. I could have cancelled my room, but so glad I didn't. I absolutely loved this place. The drive gave me one of the prettiest sunsets I had seen on my vacation.

I stayed 10. Nights.Bed was great, staff fabulous, food wonderful. The food was Cretan and Greek, loved the bean soup and moussaka. Lamb was great.Staff amazing -even helped with my need for an early checkout. I forgot to mention the wine and raki!A great base for hiking the Samara gorge, and White mountains in general. Very good wifi.

Would have liked access to a washing machine and dryer.

Great family run hotel in Omalos village. The location is beautiful and the hotel is comfortable. It's a perfect location if you're planning Samaria George. The family who run the hotel were really friendly and helpful - helping us to plan our hike the following day to Agia Irini Gorge. We enjoyed the food - both our evening meal (and wine) and the plentiful breakfast prior to our hike.

Very warm hotel with the most friendly Greek family in the beautiful and quiet Balos. Very good diner and breakfast. Best beds ever. Efharisto

I have some dietary requirements and I was well catered for. To my surprise when I sat down for my first meal, the server already knew my restrictions from an email sent months before.I had tips and advice on walks including an idea of how I could hike the Samaria Gorge if it was closed on my intended day. I got lucky on my intended day. On the day of my departure I was waiting for the bus and was given a coffee while I waited even though I'd checked out.

No complaints - I was looked after and all the staff were very attentive.

Outstandingly welcoming staff and very good location and service,

Shower was hot but only hand held so a bit awkward to use and cramped. Wifi unreliable.

This is the perfect place to stay if you want to visit the Samaria Gorge. It's a family run hotel, they know everything about the walks in the area. The rooms are basic, but everything you need is available. Breakfast is fresh and more than enough. Diner is also very good. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. We had a great stay!

Great location. The staff were really lovely, very friendly and exceptionally helpful. We had dinner in the evening, delicious home cooking. The breakfast, included, was excellent just what was needed before tackling the Samaria Gorge. Would highly recommend.

Amazing place, feels like being in the 70s. Simple but cozy, perfect for starting the Samaria Gorges hike from Omalos and also for coming back after the hike. Suggested!

The family run hotel was a superb place for our trip to the Samaria Gorge. They were exceptionally friendly. We liked the local food, at the restaurant which was very tasty and plentiful. They even offer free shuttles to the entrance of the gorge. We had 2 relaxing night in the peaceful environment.
